Bought our First car in Brazil! (Here's How it Went)

After 21 months of living in Brazil we finally bought a car! It's a 2011 Citroen Picasso and even though it's not the prettiest thing in the world, we love it. The whole process went surprisingly smooth and took less than a week from the time we first contacted the seller to the time we drove off with the car in our name.
It is actually less complicated to buy a car here in Brazil as we do not have to go change the plates and pay that crazy registration fee.. The vistoria that was done by the company where we bought the car cost us less than $100 USD and would have been a pain to do on our own.
The website I mention in the video is olx.com.br and I have used it to buy and sell other things like household appliances and bikes.

Nothing aganist olx for small transactions, but for cars I personally would choose the Webmotors platform to do business. You can also filter by local sellers, stores, automatic/manual, year, etc. And the cars avaliable usually have more photos and details in the description. You can also check the price of model/year and compare it directly in the site with FIPE values.

Hey good luck wit new car. To negotiate in BR don't be afraid of language, Brazilians negotiate like Arabs it's much more about non verbal language than verbal language.

You could get an international drivers license. Cars are pretty expensive in Brazil, even for old junkers. a 10-12 year old honda civic is like R$60k. The most popular car is probably the fiat uno. also anyone who owns a car in brazil has to pay IPVA "IPVA (motor tax, Imposto sobre a Propriedade de Veículos Automotores) IPVA is a motor tax applied to the possession of motorized vehicles. IPVA is a state tax and must be paid by anyone who owns a motorized vehicle. The tax is due annually from the 1st January of each fiscal year. The basis for calculating the tax, when it comes to used car, is the current value of the motor vehicle, considering the market prices and those published in specialized publications. Rate: From 2% to 5%, depending on the state you are living in."
