Carnarvon Lake, nestled within Kananaskis Country in Alberta, Canada, is a picturesque alpine destination that offers an enchanting hiking and camping experience. This 22-kilometer trail provides adventurers with breathtaking vistas of the Canadian Rockies while also posing certain challenges and dangers.
The hike to Carnarvon Lake begins at the Cat Creek trailhead, where you'll be immediately greeted by lush forests and the melodic sounds of babbling creeks. As you ascend, the trail opens up to vast meadows adorned with wildflowers during the summer months. It's a moderately difficult hike, yet hikers should be prepared for the serious chain climb to ascend up to the lake.
All drone shots were done legally with the proper licenses/permits from legal take off and landing locations.

I live in AB and I love hiking all over our mountains, but I'd never heard of carnarvon! Too challenging for my skill level, but looking at your beautiful shots of that lake, it's mother nature's reward for only the bravest and strongest. Well done!

Hey David! Don't feel too bad about stopping when your gut told you to. It is disappointing to not make the summit but better to err on the side of caution. I had to stop about 250 meters from the top of Caldron Peak in Banff a few years ago as I was out of gas and had to retrace the route back over a crazy traverse that I was dreading. Like you, I probably could have summited but I wanted something left in the tank for the traverse because one slip and it would be game over. Good vids!

Cheers buddy, I think it was the chain descent pushing my stress levels. If it were a simple hike out I probably would have taken 15 minutes to chill then crawled up to the diagonal line you can see in the drone shots which would have gotten me up. Better to live another day, enjoy another day

Oh my gosh, David!!!!!! I shudder to think if you'd been hit by that freaking rock. This video would never have been made! I can imagine your anger! And respect your ability to take it down and not use it to take down the silly women who pushed the rock down. How stupid of them. Kind of an idiot move to push rocks down, or if it was an accident, to not call it to lower climbers. Tragedy averted. After that 'edge of my seat' climb the views were amazing. Thank you for capturing them for us so we don't have to climb up that cliff to see them! Eek! I think you were wise in the choices you made. Like the lottery corp says " Know your limits, stay within it." lol! I'll stick to hikes where I don't need to use a chain to get up a hill! Great video, David! Thanks!

Pushed the rock down is an inaccurate statement to use in the Alberts Rockies. Most of those mountains are chossy limestone that is always falling down. True, a bit of trail etiquette such as yelling ROCK is approppriate.

This was a rather dramatic portrayal. Somehow your camera lens makes this look way steeper and narrower than it is. Did this hike last weekend and 65 year old ladies, kids, and even people with their cats and dogs were doing the hike. Nonetheless for less experienced hikers like ourselves it was definitely a bit nerve wracking. Also why would you be on the chain with someone above you, you're supposed to wait and climb one at a time. Getting debree falling on you from someone above you is your fault.

It would be great if they bolted a couple of anchors to step on something or chistle in a few footsteps which I know people don't like that stuff. Ya the rock was... wow.. ninja reflexes.
