“Vollrausch. A line I had my eye on going out to Switzerland, after seeing Frances Bensley’s mega effort on it earlier this year.
After investing an initial session, I liked the challenge this climb presented and was psyched to try the boulder more during the trip.
I was pretty stoked to get all the moves and make good links in a few sessions, during the first half of the trip.
Unfortunately, I injured my knee mid-way through our time in Magic Wood, and was unable to continue trying the boulder seriously.
A less than ideal setback, sometimes one doesn't get the opportunity for things to come together.
However, I still enjoyed settling into the process in the first few sessions I was allowed on this climb.
Feeling fully daunted and unsure of the outcome (whether I could actually do the climb) I was still happy to show up, try hard, make challenging moves, and enjoy finding the most efficient flow.
Trying my hardest boulder on a trip, I adopted an open mindset. I have always found 'low expectations and high aspirations' to be productive places for me.
Fully accepting challenge will uncover weaknesses + knowing no matter the outcome acknowledging weaknesses and attempting to improve them through trying 'hard' climbs relative my ability = I will come away with improvements to my overall climbing ability.
When you are striving for a challenging goal, there will be so much to learn from it even if you don't reach the goal.
Plus, it was pretty special to work such a beautiful line, in such a beautiful place, with such a mega crew of people.
For now, I’m content to be home, rehabbing my knee while still being able to climb without too much trouble.” - Rab athlete @mimi_chickpea on Vollrausch (f7C/V9) in Magic Wood, Switzerland.
