I feel like it’s not just the outfit of the main character that clashes. Her Moder just looks downright bad, especially the face seems made in a completely different art style than the rest of the game, which looks fantastic. Really odd to have the player avatar turn out to be the worst looking and sounding part of the whole game. The one explanation I can come up with for the model is that the devs didn’t have a ton of experience prior to this and the player character was the first thing they made

Great video as usual! What a gorgeous, atmospheric gem of a game, I love how the mansion looks, especially that main hall area at 1:36. I’m a sucker for these lushly detailed, formerly luxurious and now dilapidated mansions. They remind me of the interwar art deco buildings in Bucharest - they’re in varying states of disrepair, but you can still see traces of their their former beauty. Though, admittedly, the mansion in this game leans more towards gothic than art deco

I completely agree but listening to the line he's talking about, it doesn't really sound hammy in the same way as those old games, it sounds like somebody actually trying and coming off as cheesy. Just my opinion, though and I haven't played yet.

The issues I have with her design is that it looks rather different compared to rest of the environment and even the other characters you encountered, like it was a rough draft of an early character model for a slightly different game. Also, her attire is very odd; her colorful outfit makes her look like an extra from Alice: Madness Return, not a bad design but not really appropriate for this game's atmosphere

I absolutely loved this game, a real breath a fresh air. My first playthrough was 18 hours just because I loved walking through the environments and getting immersed. I also really loved Carolines design because of how iconic and memorable it is while also giving her a layer of vulnerability and story reasons. Though the new costume they added is really good as well. I am really looking forward to what they make in the future.

I just finished this and I really enjoyed it. Some puzzles were a bit too obtuse at times, however it nailed atmosphere and the alt style RE remake controls were awesome. Yeah, I recommend to anyone who likes survival horror.

Hell yeah, I loved this game. It was exactly what I've been missing from classic survival horror. The story delivery was a little cheesy, but it was part of the charm for me, and I was surprised by how genuinely engaged I was ultimately by the story. You could see some twists coming very early, but there were still some nice surprises to be had. The ONLY thing I wish it had was some rewards for completing the game, like outfits or comedy weapons, but ah well. Still a very enjoyable playthrough and I'm glad the game has been slowly finding an audience, despite a vocal minority complaining about the very things I enjoyed in the game since they really don't make em like this anymore, especially any that look this good. Excited to see what the developer will do next.

Fantastic game. My only serious complaint I have is the stethoscope puzzle....my best friend was playing this and guess what? He's deaf so he couldn't "find" the solution since he literally couldn't hear the beat of the heart and there was no other way to figure out the beat your supposed to use the knocker. He texted me asking to help him. He figured out he had to use the stethoscope and all that but he had to text me to ask to help him. To me, this was a big oversight. It's a awesome idea for a puzzle but they should have had an option in settings for that particular puzzle or with subtitles when listening to the statues heart saying "beat...beat beat beat....beat...beat" or w.e. the solution was, that's all they need. I did message the devs about this and they did apologize and agreed that it was an oversight and that for the sequel they will be more aware when it comes to players that are hearing impaired, color blind etc which I really appreciated. My friend and I weren't mad or anything, just more of trying to bring their attention to the situation if that makes sense.

I'm a heretic I know, but I liked Caroline's original design. They added an update to give her a jacket, jeans and boots and it is probably what a young woman investigating a creepy hospital would logically wear but... ugh, it's not the same. For better or worse it's an iconic outfit and it's great for helping sell Caroline's innocence.

Some Spoilers in this comment I bought the game 2ish days ago after watching the first half of the review. Came back to finish the review and compare my thoughts. I loved the game I had a great time. I feel like it almost tapped into a little Eternal Darkness type of territory. The game had some great puzzles. The only real issues I had with the game were that There were no difficulty options The pursuit monster was super easy to avoid. When you hear the soundcue if you just go back in the room you came from then back again they'll despawn. The first quarter of the game save tapes are super rare, but in the latter sections they start piling them on. I feel like the begining should have more and later sections should have less. Some of the puzzles were a little confusing, things like using the hammer as a mallet. 90% of the puzzles were clear and fun to figure out. I had some technical issues too. Controller support was gone for me. I had to use a community setup that made the controller emulate a keyboard and mouse in order to play with one. My performance was pretty bad too. My laptop is aging but it should be able to run this game fine. I have a Nvidia 1060 and an i7 processor with 16 gigs of ram and I could not get my game to run a stable 60. My frame rate flucated from the 20s to the 50s. If this sounds like your computer then you might want to wait for some optimization patches or pick this game up on a console. All that stuff I can easily forgive though, I'm excited to see what the team comes up with next. I think there's more to this world they've made if they ever want to find it. Great game definitely worth 20$ I'd even argue that I would have paid more if the game preformed better.

Yeah it's kind of strange how wildly far apart the visual design for the manor and for the characters is. That manor design is something I would expect from seasoned veterans of the industry. The attention to detail in the environments and overall art direction is absolutely incredible. But those character models look like something you would buy off of an asset store that are completely out of place with the environmental design. Thankfully though it's not really a massive deal since the game itself is so incredibly good.

Good game overall. It recaptures the old school essence almost perfectly. My one complaint is that by the mid-early late game it suffers from what I call REmake syndrome...where the progression is padded for the sake of it. But the pacing improves by the end so it's all good.

Pretty sure, the issues with voice acting is due to this being smaller indie devs. Don't think they had huge budget for voice acting, and big audio department for this. Seeing this, in my eyes the voice acting is fine. Game otherwise, shows that there really is market for this style of survival horror still. I love this game, the atmosphere is amazing! And I agree with you on many aspects of this review, don't care about the things I disagree, as these things could be due to my preference.

Thank god they added in a new outfit you can swap to at the start of the game now. It's a shame the new outfit wasn't the default one because I really feel like it cheapens the overall package giving it an unnecessary fanservicey vibe. I might try this again. I love survival horror but found the game more irritating than scary. Healing items felt a bit too weak, puzzles started off well but felt a little arbitrary at certain points, and the game could give you a couple more tapes to save in the beginning. Limited saving can build tension but in this case it just felt like a cheap trick to extend the runtime. Also, I’m not in love with the design of the main character or the enemies

I wishlisted this game as soon as I saw it. I played the demo and thought it was quite poor but still kept it wishlisted. Recently the game went on sale so I tried it, and ended up refunding it before the 2 hour limit on Steam, for two major reasons. One, the combat is just awful. It's worse than it EVER was in either classic RE or SH. Way, way worse. And secondly, because of the absurdly limited saves. These games were NEVER this stupidly designed. Such a shame that it's getting hailed as a good revival of classic survival horror games because it really isn't. It's inspired by them but makes the experience of playing absolutely frustrating by making these two things FAR WORSE than they ever were at the time.
