Also, much appreciated for the 4x3.. confused why that was a thing that ever pervaded.. The stretchy vision.. especially with the amount of effort put into formatting and cropping for VHS at 4x3 from cinemas in the post widescreen era.. But when it comes to lol when it comes to video production on the internet lol especially gaming, especially retro gaming.. Man.. Just when you think it's never going to show up again.. and then you realize they played the whole game squished.. and then and it doesn't bother them... Like how can you.. how were the things they say about it going to be valid anymore? Just visually if anything. Also.. do they have a different interpretation of up and down than I do? Is it an equilibrium thing? Perhaps this is why silly silly silly silly games will brutally butcher the sensitivity accesses by default as if it were a thing that should ever be defaulted, because they just actually have a different special perception? I actually like this is all new to me I hadn't thought about this one.. I have questions... Questions that need answers.. I must go see the head of my order, he is both wise and powerful, with no indication of corrective lenses.. I'm sure he will know what to do!

20:26 so let me get this straight, in the large arena-like room where you encounter the boss, you can't deal him damage?!? That's an underhanded design trick to make you die repeatedly, forcing a restart, before ever figuring it out. This likely made many players give up on the game altogether. With how long it would have taken, and how many times they had to restart, just to find the horror monitor goggles, this would would have likely been the final straw for many players. What beta tester approved this? Not allowing you to damage the boss in the arena like room where he is found, is a huge step towards guaranteeing the games failing to sell. No teenager watching his friend get frustrated, restarting repeatedly, and giving up on the game all together, is going to go out and score his own copy of the game. Again, flawed game design.

12:02 The *Erotic Magazine* saved my life once and I always bring this up, when I talk about this game, because... in which other game that could ever happen? I was at the end of the Baseball Stage, bleeding to death, walking slowly, heartbeat critically low and no items in my pockets... none but the dirty magazine I found under little Jimmy's bed. In those conditions, I could have never reached the exit in front of me. It was close, but it would have toke a minute at that speed and I was going to die in seconds. Since I was desperate and had nothing to lose, I read the magazine, just to try everything before to die. My heart rate raised and I had enough time to reach the goal. Tell me if that's not a story to pass on to the new generations ;)

Fun fact! The game had a marketing campaign with trailers that claimed, and I quote - "You'll VOMIT with EXCITEMENT! You'll PUKE with PLEASURE! You'll SHIT with FEAR!" I absolutely adore Illbleed. Such a bizarre, weird and surreal game. I remember when my friend and I first played it we jumped right off it out of pure confusion as we missed the tutorial and didn't have the manual. I felt compelled to revisit over the years though and when I finally "got" what it was doing it clicked hard, even if it was rough around the edges.

So I've listened to the opening cut you put in about a thousand times today.. largely due to KZbin combination mobile combination trying to get basic things to work shenanigans... It happens to be at the top of the playlist so when I would refresh it and see if something would stick, I would almost always hear the intro again.. to this very minute, where I accidentally had to start it over again cuz I hit the button wrong.. it's still is like an odd joy glowy spot that warms me a little bit every time lol.. and the first 500 times I didn't get to the punchline yet lol and makes it better.. Very rare when a video game does that, and usually it's not a good game and usually a tiny part of it one.. tragic the very skewed circumstances towards its existence being known, there's a couple of games like that where It exists in a space that you don't pay attention to and usually has no merit or if it did it would exist outside of it.. But it just slipped through the cracks and never got the vampire masquerade bloodlines recognition decades later it deserved.. I kind of love everything about this, it I mean you know consulatus hud n different paradigms is notwithstanding. I know there were more than a few of these things that existed back then, especially in the existence of the adult directed adventure game that used to exist in a separate medium, But, genuinely the level of talent to inner child joy to edge lourdness to restraint is such a hard combination for the medium even nowadays.. possibly worse because of clout chasing existing as a possibility, but also much more so in that the stars aligning for that to become a thing are so much more accessible and distributable.. But certainly from the time, and certainly in the decade following, seeing something like this is just a unicorn.. there's a couple of examples of that kind of thing, and maybe it would always be a unicorn... Especially from a medium that has so many different things that people get out of it, many of which are not aligned and most of which would take a priority.. Good stuff! And thank you!

My hot take on this game is that it's actually a lightweight action RPG, with the levels each being set up as dungeons laden with traps, instanced random encounters, resources to be spent on character upgrades, and unique gimmicks for each dungeon.

I certainly agree that Illbleed is very entertaining in its cutscenes and B-movie schlock stuff but I don't think it's a very good game to _play._ I felt the same way about your Blue Stinger review as well. Watching someone play or review these games it's very easy to imagine them as better than they are because you don't actually have t play them, you don't have to fumble with controls or deal with strange game mechanics, you pretty much just get the undiluted experience of the bizarre so bad it's good story and voice acting. But I don't know if I'd ever recommend either of these games to people to _play._ Watch an LP of? Sure! But play? I think it requires a very specific kind of person.

I always assumed teh numbers on the deparment store were meant to be yen, since that is a drastic difference from dollars (so they look crazy when they just change the currency but not the ammount.) like dividing by 100, so the console would be 160 instead of 16000

Why does an EKG run through the four senses? It's like saying "Sight" is when you pump bloods from lungs to heart and smell is when you pump the oxygenated blood to your body,

Also it's a tragedy nobody ever made some sort of AR game based on the horror monitor mechanic.

The confrontation and loss of a father in this game was still better written and executed than in tlou2. I just had to say that since I never miss an opportunity to crap on that massive disappointment.

I have a bunch of dreamcast games left, but the dreamcast itself is irrevocably broken( And I also have illbleed on the disk, pirated, but still there. Eh... I wish I could get my hands on a dreamcast again and try these games again from the original gamepad, the old TV and that atmosphere of carefree childhood...

This would make a great remaster.

Sounds like the devs took inspiration from the McKamey Manor.

Lani has voiced SO many things in her career. Also the voice of one of the announcers and mercenaries in UT2004.

You can make a backup of your already owned copy of the game and burn it into a CD-R and play it on the regular dreamcast. (Dreamcast Sport does not play backups) 😊

My go to channel for interesting games and good reviews. You are genuine and not compromised like a lot of others. You review unique and awesome games not something a studio has paid you to give a good review. Thank you rock kick ❤

I remember watching a playthrough of this game back in late 2011. Lmao i was straight up scared and confused. I kept thinking to myself if what i was seeing is legit.. this is a surreal horror game but thats what i like about it. I watched supergreatfriends playthrough to help me understand WTF was going on with this game!
