Fun! I fished Snowbank a lot last year. It can be tricky but I had a lot of luck with tube jigs and suckers under tip ups. Check this one out if you haven’t already: Tube Jigs | Ice Fishing For Lake Trout | Boundary Waters Ice Fishing kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2LNiK1-mdujf68

@@holmmie4433 thank you! It really helps to have a sonar so you know when they are in the area and can get them to chase, if not, a lively minnow under a tip up or a dead bait on the bottom can do the trick.

Heading up there tomorrow with my brother. We will be fishing right off the island you had at the 26 minute mark. Our dad started taking us up there back in the 90's and we've gone back every year in March. Excellent lake trout fishing!

Awesome!! Let me know how the ice is. I was out on snowbank yesterday and there is still 22” of good ice and a thin layer of snow on top so it should be just fine. I’ve heard there are a couple of reefs that extend from that island that are good fishing. Good luck!!

@@therealfarwater thats been on my list for a long time but ive just never had anybody to tag along. My cabin is north of there over by crane lake, on a private walleye factory lake so once i get there i have a tough time leaving that. I have fished mukooda, spring lake, and winchester lake right by me and have done real well
@therealfarwater2 жыл бұрын
@@eduffy4937 it’s definitely worth checking out but you’ll need a wheeler or snowmobile to get across vermillion. Lots of big fish but they can be tough to catch-I got skunked on my January trip there this year

Awesome video and it looked like a great day! I hiked it in there the day after opener 2 years ago for my first time. We blanked but I will be back again to chase them! I'm hoping to target Rainbow's/Splake near Ely in February.

That’s laker fishing. I fished sunup to sundown last year on Trout and only had one follow...I went back for two days this summer and has zero luck again. I will be back though, with such an impressive average size

I love those darker Lakers. Went back yesterday and my buddy caught a brute that was just shy of 28 inches and it was pale like the first two. One reason lake trout fishing is so fun; almost every fish has different coloring

tube jigs another great idea for lakers through the ice with a flasher to help
@therealfarwater4 жыл бұрын
I’ve never had luck with tube jigs but you’re right, they are probably the #1 lake trout bait through the ice. Do you tip your hook with anything? Do you use a stinger hook?

I followed someone's trail from the day before so I made quick time. Probably took an hour to hike the 1.5 miles to the spot I fished. In addition to the snowmobile ride across vermillion it was probably 2 hrs total

There are some monster trout in there. I went back today and my buddy caught a 28 incher that had to have weighed ten pounds. I know if I keep fishing there its only a matter of time before I pull a 30+" fish through the ice
