Jeppsons bourbon is actually really good, especially the cask strength and finished ones. Its just well aged and blended mgp. They kinda make malort as a meme at this point.

Same, Malort is a crime against humanity....but their store pick Bourbons are absolutely great for the price point. They also have some really great names on them. Mine is "Time to go fight your dad" 🤣

The Blind Pig was my 1st stop on my 1st KY trip. Its a staple for my wife and I. Their J. Mattingly pick is very tasty.

Hard Truth is great for a younger whiskey. My wife and I visited the distillery and did their single barrel experience, lots of fun. Caramel Malt is awesome and the chocolate malt is good if you like stout beers, lots of coffee and chocolate. Great whiskey for people who don’t necessarily lean to ryes. Cheers

People are sleeping on Lost Lantern (independent bottler). They just keep winning awards and double golds. The single cask bourbon they released from Boulder Spirits was delicious!! See top left at 9:00 mark.

The Traverse City Whiskey Co bottle was the barrel proof rye. It is an excellent rye. I bought that New Riff Malted rye, and it was my first experience of a bottle changing after the first pour. New Riff's Balboa rye is a great bottle so when I spent a bit more on the malted rye I was disappointed . Later that week, I was impressed and can't wait to buy it again

Great video. Lol i was just in the Blind Pig, did exactly the same thing as you, picked up a bottle turned it around and put it back on the shelf. There's a new store across the street, can't remember the name but had a decent selection and the prices were good.

I was just in last night. My experience was similar, fine selection but nothing grabbed me and the prices were on the higher side; since I'm going to Bardstown Bourbon today I passed on their choices until I see what I can get at the plant. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the video. My wife grew up in Bardstown and we got married at My Old Kentucky Home. She remembers some days the whole town smelled like sour mash. Will have to check out The Blind Pig next time we visit.

We were in Bardstown two weeks ago, and we hit Toddy's Liquors. Mostly museum bottles, but they had just bought a barrel of 1792 and were selling it by the case. I went home with five cases of it! $216/case I couldn't resist.

Fun video - thanks for sharing and going to make it to Bardstown this summer - their Origen series stuff is awesome - you passed on the OKI Reserve - it was one of my top new bourbons from 2022 - the most complex tasting 100 proof I’ve maybe ever had - you should be able to find in KY for more like $80 which is retail so passing it up for $100 not terrible but would def recommend it, just an amazing flavor bomb - got some old MGP stuff blended in there! Love the channel - keep it rocking, cheers!

Bardstown Origin wheated is very good, just picked up the rye and will try that soon. I'm thinking you will both like the wheated over the white label version, but we shall see!

I have an 8 year ECBP store pick that also stands up to practically every 12 year batch. I was very surprised but not shocked either. Great is great, even if it is a bit younger.

Do yourself a favor and always pass on the Stillhouse black can. I tried it due to the coffee bean resting process (and the can is interesting). It wasn't a total waste of 30 bucks, but i wont buy it again. Some say the apple is ok, but nothing to write home about.

In the last minute of the video, you skip on past a bottle of Bluegrass Distillers bluecorn bourbon. Have you ever had any by them? I had some a couple of years ago, early in my bourbon journey, and really like the barrel strength. Can't get it here in Ohio, so I don't if I would think the same now. Try it if you can. TonyB

Been to the Blind Pig numerous times, if it's anything worth having, it's always over priced. Price on so-so run of the mill stuff is ok, but usually still a little higher on everything. There is also a Blind Pig speak easy around the corner down the street, it's a lil bar set up like a Speak Easy, it's neat but drinks are a bit pricy.

The owner is an idiot. I was asking about Coopers Craft 100 proof because I heard it was a great value bourbon. He kept referring to it as bottled in bond. And then went on to say anything 100 proof was bottled in bond. I went on to list off several 100 proof bourbons that were not bib, Old Fitz 100, Very Old Barton 100, Old Forester 100 and he just kept shaking his head. Plus, he’s expensive even on the cheap stuff. $29 Early Times bib and a Russels single barrel was $93 and it wasn’t even a pick. Go to Evergreen Liquor in Louisville. Great picks, prices, and tasting bar

Jeptha Creek is definitely worth a try. I did the tour and picked up a bottle of the their barrel strength. Really nice, but not cheap at the distillery (~$100)

I did the same after taking their tour in 2021. We had a great time and the bottle out of the barrel we tasted was very enjoyable. I wouldn't drop $100 on that every day but it was worth it to instantly bring us back to that experience and moment in time again.

It seems whatever channel I watch that tours in Kentucky show prices that are much higher than here in Texas, could give you many instances from this clip where I just saw the same bottles for $20-30 less just this morning . Are the distillery shops marking up as well? Planning to go next year abut could pay for my trip by not buying at the stores I have seen. Thoughts?

I'm a KY local. (e-town) About 10 min from Bardstown. Blind Pig is the worst place to buy, several distillery tour guides will find very slight ways to tell you to avoid it. For example, those 2 Bardstown Origin Series bottles he bought, I think I saw they were $75 per bottle. They are $45/$50 at the actual distillery gift shop...........5 minutes away.

People that think they are coming to KY and finding awesome deals on bourbon are off base. Will you find lots of things you may not be able to find other places? Yes! Will you find amazing distillery locations, tours, and bourbon culture? Yes! Is it ok to overpay sometimes? Sure it is for the experience. Come to KY enjoy our bourbons . But seriously understand, this particular area is bourbon Disneyland. Sodas cost what $4 at Disney? Bourbon can follow that model if you aren't careful where you buy in KY. Sorry to rant on your post.
