Absolutely!!! It was apparently just intended to be kind of a fun live concert sing-along type song. Not released originally released as a single. But wives and girlfriends kept calling up and requesting it!! Keith, you are not listening to this one for the guitar playing (well as much as you can say that about any of Brad's songs). But the lyrics are absolutely frigging hilarious.

My best friends got married 07/07/07 @ 7:00pm. Ticks was popular at this time. At the wedding rehearsal while saying his vows my friend tacks "I'll check you for ticks" as his last vow to his wife to be. We had a huge laugh! These two are meant to be together, the stars aligned. So, during the ceremony, we were those of us from rehearsal were wondering what we were going to hear. Sure enough, at the end of the vows came a quiet, "check you for ticks". That quiet moment went through the small gathering and you felt the love & laughter that would be part of their lives. Beautiful.

Love the reactions and interactions between you two. Gona give another vote for Celebrity video by Brad, but my favorite video of his is Mud on the Tires. He likes videos that tell stories, and he does it well. Live is a better judge of musicianship, but the videos let you experience all the artist wants to share with the audience. Another perfect example of this is Martina Mcbride Believe. Song is good. Video will get you right in the gut. Not to be "that guy", but Keith may wanna check a calendar. Mine says 2022.

Personally, I think Brad's influences are a little of Mark Knopfler, but it is mainly greats like Vince Gill, Chet Atkins, Steve Wariner, Glen Campbell, Roy Clarke, and Buck Owens. I've seen a few videos of Brad being the junior member on stage playing with Vince, Steve, and a few other greats. One thing about Brad's live performances is he'd prank or get pranked by the other acts, and sometimes they'd come on stage to sing with him. With "Ticks" in particular, Taylor Swift (before she abandoned country music) and Kelly Pickler used to come out on stage in ticks costumes, and either Jack Ingram or Joe Nichols would come on stage as an exterminator and spray Taylor and Kellie off. Somewhere there are videos of the live pranks, particularly where they'd tease each other in videos played for the concert goers. Just made it a fun and funny atmosphere that was playful.

One of the things about Brad Paisley's guitar licks and solos is that they often are jazz-based. Occasionally he will have pentatonic, blues-based, but he has a lot of jazz influences. So him being a Mark Knopfler fan makes perfect sense.
@BourbonCountryReacts2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but he doesn't do the one thing most jazz guitarists do, that drives me absolutely nuts. They nerd out so hard on modal playing, that they completely leave/lose the song's melody. It literally gives me a headache trying to tie their weirdness back to the original melody of the song. "How is this in any way relevant to this song, and not turning into random notes?" I'm not even kidding. A lot of jazz literally gives me a headache, because I can't stop doing that. That's not to say that I want everything to be nice, simple, and diatonic. I do like some complexity when the song calls for it. But hardcore jazz guys drive me nuts. Fortunately, I haven't heard Brad do that, or I would have screeched about it on channel. - Keith

Brad Paisley is an extraordinary guitarist. If you ever get a chance see if you can find a very early episode of Austin City limits that he starred on. Back at the beginning of his career. But you need to focus on his forebearers you need to focus on the old g guitarist that came before him because some of the stuff they did was absolutely exceptional. I know you've got a huge list of Roy Clark Buck Owens and Glen Campbell and the absolute Master guitarist Chet Atkins. What they could and did do with guitars was exceptional. What Roy Clark did was stringed instruments. Was exceptional if it had strings Roy Clark could and did play it. In one performance out there alive performance he plays guitar fiddle and banjo. All in one song. Please please check out some of these truly great guitarists because these guys were great guitarists in the country tradition back in the 60s 70s and '80s they are legends for a very very good reason.

I can't wait until the Bourbon I'm sending you gets here, because the Vince Gill song I'm going to request will definitely cement him in the Brad, Keith, Vince mix of master guitarist in Nashville and Vince was actually first. Mark Knopfler came to see Vince to offer him the job of guitarist with Dire Straights, and Vince had to turn it down because he'd just signed a Country contract with a Label, he's played with the Eagles for a few years post main country years and he's probably been guitarist on more rock records than you've realized you've heard. He plays on Bluegrass, rock, country, christian...you name it if someone wants a good guitar player they call Vince Gill. Brad's main influence may shock you they were Eddie Van Halen, that's the first person he learned to play a riff from, Buck Owens, John Jorgenson, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, the Eagles and the Stones. And he actually does read music...some, as to where Keith Urban who plays killer guitar and piano plays completely by ear and does not read a lick of music, its ridiculous. This was a fun song for Brad and it let hit guitar skills shine. I'm not sure you should listen to it while driving Keith, I'm worried your might get lost in that guitar and have a wreck! lol Great reaction guys!!
@BourbonCountryReacts2 жыл бұрын
A crash is unlikely. Not due to the music anyway. I can /drive/. Any crash I'm in will be due to my failure to predict something incredibly stupid done by another driver. Anyways, any guitar player worth the price of his pick (23 cents or so) is going to have multiple influences. Interestingly enough, as much as I like Mark Knopfler, he really isn't one of mine. I love listening to his style, but don't really enjoy playing it. Probably because I'm not any good at playing it. In this song, the Knopfler influence wasn't even a little bit subtle. The song was, well, in a way, a tribute to him, guitar-wise. And a damned good one. As we mentioned in the video, I think Brad would be pleased with that comparison. - Keith

Back in the late 80s, early 90s, when the band were at a high point, they were touring Australia, Mark Knopfler agreed to grant a young kid a Make-A-Wish request, the young bloke's name is Nathan Cavaleri, he absolutely blew everyone's socks off and he is still playing today...
