Walk of life is iconic. It’s everywhere in pop culture, at every stadium.

Great reaction. Waylon Jennings's son Shooter did a great country cover of Walk of Life.

This song is off of an album these two gents did together. Brilliant album called "Neck and Neck". Though there are differences in their styles, Mark has a smoothness that even eclipses Chet's. And I love Chet Atkins.

The live video of "Sultans Of Swing" (long version) is a great example of Mark's playing.

"Just one time" is a cover by Mark Knopfler & Chet Atkins of a song written by Don Gibson of Sea of Heartbreak fame. Don is an OG! That was the request I meant to answer Dustin's request for choice in his message. He caught me at a bad time.... Those times happen more often lately and I'm trying to not let the Old Man In.

That guitar Mark is playing on this video was sold at Christies Auction on 01--31-24 for 330,000 lbs. sterling or almost. $420,000. The Money for Nothing 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard went for 550,000 or $694,000. Mark Knopfler said he'll miss them all, but hopes they continue making people happy and they get good homes. They shouldn't be wall pieces any more than a 58 cal. Zouave rifle should be in my opinion! Some of my numbers could be off but the collection went for $11.2 million.

I actually had the pleasure of meeting Chet one time. His cousin owned the country Club in our little town. I was working there in the kitchen cooking. He was an extremely nice guy.

Nice analysis on Walk of Life. First time hearing your channel, certainly won't be the last. You might want to listen Mark and Chet play another song from this album. The song is "Yakety Ax". Some real country pickin' on this one. Mark can country pick too.

You should hear their Poor Boy Blues song. It’s along the same lines in a way as this one but without the organs.

Keith, it wouldn't be a pain ol' country song, it would be Bluegrass. The lyrics give it away. I've never seen this video. VERY COOL!

You gentlemen should definitely check out There'll Be Some Changes Made from Mark and Chet's Neck and Neck album. It's great fun with the two of them exchanging banter and guitar licks.

Hey guy's it's great to see how effortlessly it is for Chester, as Vince Gill, call's him Chet Atkins amazing with a guitar, I would like to request a song by Tanya Tucker, called "OH WHAT IT DID TO ME" a great traditional country song and she does a great job on it, hope you will give it a try. Thanks

Chet was also a great producer. Elvis, Everly Brothers, Waylon, Jerry Reed ect.

Mark Knopfler at one time tried to get Vince Gill to join him, it was some time prior to Vince Gill joining the Eagles. This old brain of mine can't remember any more of the details but I'm sure someone in the subscriberdom or somewhere on the internet has more info about it. Vince Gill is another top notch guitarist, he also has video on you tube playing with Chet Atkins. Really enjoyed this one guys. Peace to all. ✌

Apparently Vince was offered a spot in Mark's band. This was WAY, like decades (mid 80's I believe) before he joined the Eagles. I saw an interview with Vince once where he said he declined b/c his solo career was just about to take off and he just got a record deal, so he felt like he had to take a chance on himself. I'd say the gamble paid off.

The song from Vacation you're thinking of is "Holiday Road" by Lindsay Buckingham (from Fleetwood Mac)

Fil knows his stuff doesn't he. He also does covers of many classis tunes with him playing & singing it all. I love his breakdowns and detailed knowledge of many of my favorite musical hero's!

@Bourbon Country Reacts - from the same Chet Atkins special [watch the whole special]…Chet plays and sings a very touching song called “I Still Can’t Say Goodbye”

Just my opinion. Anytime we get to hear Chet, I don't care if it is country or not. A great performance. I believe I've heard that Maybelle Carter introduced Nashville to Chet. I don't think you can get more OG than that. For me Chet, makes the guitar so easy. Thanks for a reaction to an incredible song. I'd suggest a reaction to a Chet and Jerry Reed duet. Any of them really, but possibly "Jerry's Breakdown" or "Don't Think Twice Its Alright".

The one guitar player nowadays that comes even close to the two of them.Is John 5 not only can he play rock/heavy metal.I've watched several videos of him doing some damm good chicken pickin country guitar.

Before I started watching this channel I enjoyed listening to good guitars in music, but I couldn't have named more than 2-3 of the great guitar players. Thanks to Keith I've learned so much about guitar and the amazing artists who are considered some of the greatest guitar players ever. I've enjoyed hours of new music or new appreciation for songs I already knew, but haven't paid much attention to the Guitarists! All that to say, I've heard Keith talk about John 5 several times and have really enjoyed going and checking his music out!

I suggest you react to another Atkins/Knopfler collaboration "Poor Boy Blues" I'd give Mark Knopfler the edge over Chet Atkins in addition to his guitar skills he composes both music and lyrics arranges the performance and sings. Like Chet he surrounds himself with exceptional musicians often session musicians like Guy Fletcher & Alan Clark (Keyboards) Paul Franklin (Steel Guitar) Terry Williams (Drums) and Chris White (Flute Saxophone). With regard to the use of the organ listen to Brothers In Arms live from Nimes in France where he uses the organ to create atmosphere and mood.

Speaking of being able to separate tracks, check out Moises. I watch a Reaction/Breakdown Channel and he frequently plays the isolated tracks and I never knew how he got them until he did a Livestream explaining it. Moises allows you to upload a song then isolate out each individual instrument.

Uh-oh Keith, I might have just found our first big disagreement! Do you just hate Organ in Rock/Metal, or do you just dislike it in general? I haven't listened to enough Rock to have an opinion in that setting, but the Organ is one of my favorite instruments in Classical/Sacred Music. Especially giant Pipe Organs. There is a massive Pipe Organ in one of the Chapels at the University I went to, and I could sit there for hours listening to students' recitals!

Atkins is better than Knopfler in some respect, and Knopfler is in others. Knopfler's lyricism is unmatched.

Walk of Life was from Brothers in Arms album, pre "Money for Nothing". I stopped buying the albums with all the electronics. Mark doesn't use a pick, is that a detriment? Boone County West by God Viriginia in honor of D Ray White & company!
