Thanks you so much, Joy! I was overtightening my strings to 5/16 of an inch space between the hair and bow midway up the bow. That is about the thickness of my pinky finger to my fingernail. I will have to tighten to pencil thickness.

Thank you for the great explanation, so it's true that at least to some, the bow tension is a preference and may vary for the piece. It's not an one tension plays all.
