Kenny, ur the BOW KING OF KZbin, no one even comes close. Thanks for this video, I have never paper tuned, but always thought in the back of my mind about doing it. When u explain why paper tuning is/was needed. It all makes sense. Good buy Myth, along with the smoke and mirrors.

I know this video is a few years old but I find this one along with your others to be very helpful. I used to shoot a lot of Archery but have not for several years. I'm getting back into it and these are great to help get me back in the game.

Dude thank you for all your vids! You're my go to place for info, keep it up! Just wanted to ad, I was just about to go and paper tune my bow before I watched this video, you just saved me from wasting paper.

A good video, it's a "OUTSTANDING VIDEO". Ever since I got into archery, this thing about paper-tuning just didn"t make any sense the process of paper-tuning according to Easton Arrow Tuning and Maintenance Guide: step-by-step reading this guide moving your arrow rest left-right to get the bullet-hole or tear into the paper. Once you get the tear the"bullet-hole" in the paper you are now done, but then there is walk-back tuning followed by broadhead tuning. Shooting practice points into the target, now I've got to get my broadheads and my practice points to come together; I now moved my arrow rest according Easton guide to bring my broadheads and practice points together, all I have done is waste time on a procedure that doesn't work. I just cancelled out my perfect tear "bullet-hole" in the paper just by moving my arrow rest. What a waste of time! I just learned this by watching Kenny Parson's video.

Thank you for clearing this up. People need to do the math. 20+ yrs ago, bows were probably made with manufacturing tolerances of 1/1,000 or 1/10,000 of an inch. Now that CNC is the norm, it's more like 1/100,000 inch or more. But hey,, I feel your pain. As the son of a gunsmith who worked with him many years (SINCE '78) I lost count of the times we had to explain to someone that a round fired from a bolt action rifle DID NOT travel down range faster than that fired out of an auto loader. Some people still believe that an auto loaders use of a small portion of gas to cycle the action ''slows'' the projectiles FPS downrange. I'd tell them, ''Do the math''. At say,, 2800 FPS, any given round was at least 100 ft downrange BEFORE THE RIFLES ACTION BEGAN IT'S CYCLE. I'm 52 yrs old, and I STILL need to enplane this. If all else fails, we can wrap our heads with duct tape so they don't explode from some people's foolishness. Hang in there,, keep the faith,,,,,,

Thanks for the great videos. I found I had to paper tune to find the true center shot of my compound bow. That center shot is a slightly different direction than the measured center with the method you mentioned in one of the other videos.

Mr. Parsons, may be you could clear up a question for me. The way I paper tune is more to check the bow and not the center shot. Once I set my center shot perfect, I paper tune and adjust the yoke twist to fix left/right rips. This of course to make sure the upper pulley stays inline with the string and doesnt torque. Your thoughts?
@darrenoerlemans87516 жыл бұрын
Paper tuning is a must for every bow ,,,no two people hold or cradle the bow the same way in their hand. You can set the center shot all you want,, but most likely when you hold or grip your bow at full draw you are going to see the arrow sitting either right or left on the rest. A lot of shooters torque the bow in their hand, with out knowing it. Throws center shot off,,,some can't repeat the way they hold it every time they shoot, which makes it very hard to get correct arrow flight. Today's bows have very small handles on the riser, most likely helps cure bow torque. Like you said no one else can tune your bow in their hands,,,,
@roadrunner2436 жыл бұрын
"some can't repeat the way they hold it every time"...... Then what's the point in paper tuning? If that's true it won't matter if its paper tuned or not. The resulting shot will be different every time.

From what I can tell paper tuning is done to center the rest behind the movement axis of the string. If your rest is inducing vertical or lateral motion on the arrow and we didn't buy those three tools you showed just to do one bow, paper tuning can help get you aligned. "if you have the string directly behind the arrow, directly behind the rest your center shot is perfect...", if your rest is misaligned your center shot is not perfect so either buy and use Kenny's tools for your one bow, or paper tune to check your new rest. Assuming the bow is from a reputable manufacturer the cams and limbs are less of a problem. the rest may have been put on and be out of line with your center. Why leave it to chance?
@markgo1068 жыл бұрын
+Morris Coleman I'd spend $35 for the tools to install the rest correctly than to waste time paper tuning.

Love your videos mate. Quick question. What is the "C" shaped doodad on the upper part of the riser?
@trophytines11 жыл бұрын
Kenny, when your setting the height of your rest in relation to the risers bolt hole, do you center the arrow over the hole or put the bottome of th arrow at the top of the hole?
@Ripp1n8 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't it be advised to possibly punch some arrows through paper to make sure your spine is at its flattest? just turn the arrow while knocked just a scosh each time till you are at your bullet hole...or close?

I bought a bear pro specialist compound bow off my friend and it has a d loop on it, can I use the d loop on it with a drop away arrow rest or do I have to use a older arrow rest,and will I have to paper turn it with or without the drop away rest?
@shaneberkness212410 жыл бұрын
I turned my arrow so my cock vane is out to get clearance from my riser because it isn't cut to center and my arrow is perfectly inline with my string. Is that a true center shot even though my rise isn't cut to center?
@bigweb031111 жыл бұрын
Kenny, is it possible for my D-Loop to twist on the bow string causing my accuracy to be off? My bow tech set my bow up and after each shot my D loop spins around causing me to have to turn my d loop back around and I believe it's affecting my accuracy?

you don't have to paper tune your bow; That is true. Although, not having the tools to not paper tune will lead one to paper tune, its a sure thing. as long as the arrow is level, and in line with the bow, no paper tuning needed, finding out these two variables without proper tools, one will paper tune. 90 degree angle from the string, the arrow is vertically perfect, your windage is tricky, which without proper tools, paper tuning will allow one to correct this.

I hate to break this to you..........but you're wrong. You are absolutely right in your statements about the older bow but you are wrong when you say "that there is absolutely no need to paper tune a modern bow". I have been a bow tech for years and have set up hundreds of models of bows from most manufacturers. Can you just level everything and set the center shot where it should be and get a bow to shoot pretty well? Absolutely you can! BUT!..........that bow shoots well because the arrow fletching is correcting its flight, somewhere down range. However, it is not correcting it before that poor nock travel robs some of the energy that could be transferred in a straight line down the arrow shaft. All modern bows are not equal and NOT built perfectly........contrary to what you stated. There are many different cam systems and configurations. Some very good and some with inherent lean and travel issues that show themselves in the form of poor nock travel when shot through paper. Is paper tuning modern bow necessary?.........no. Can it help you squeeze every last ounce of efficiency out of a highly engineered, high performance, modern bow?........absolutely!
@1234tric8 жыл бұрын
You don't have to get your bow shooting at it's best. You can just put on un spindled arrows, any kind of rest, eyeball where everything should go, and it will shoot okay. That's is why I gave up traditional archery, because I didn't know where my arrows were going shot after shot. In my world accuracy is the name of the game, and you can't get it just thinking, and guessing you know where your arrow are going.
@huntbigb8 жыл бұрын
So which distance do you set centershot to? Manufacturers have a centershot range, that your true centershot should be within when in spec. Get your rest within that distance and then micro tune with a paper tune/bareshaft tune. This video is only true if you don't care about perfect arrow flight and being able to group fixed blade broadheads. I disagree with this video 100%. Anytime a bow has any lateral knock travel (all bows), then you are going to need to paper tune or bare shaft tune to ensure your cam lean, and centershot are exact. This is a game of millimeters, not inches.
