you don't 'miss him' b/c you didn't have any relationship w/ him that you don't still have w/ him now that he's dead. Every way you could connect to him, you can still do - you're equating yourself w/ people who actually knew him
@kahlyn4157
@kahlyn4157 4 жыл бұрын
Helvete_Ingres that’s not true. he’s dead. of course you can miss someone you idolise without having a personal relationship with them. millions of people (including me) miss bowie. he touched so many peoples lives and was much ahead of his time. don’t be like that and ruin it. he was a great man and to tell a fan they can’t miss him? that was uncalled for.
@helvete_ingres4717
@helvete_ingres4717 4 жыл бұрын
@yungk2xs no you don't understand. Every interaction you have with him - which is of course, interaction with art he made - you still have. *You* didn't lose anything from his death. The only thing you can't do is see him live which you probably never did anyway. When you say you 'miss' him, you're speaking in terms of this weird parasocial relationship you've made in your head that doesn't exist. That's actually what 'idolatry' is, which is the word you used.He never knew you existed, you had no personal relationship with him. 'ruin it' - ruin what, an illusion? You know, marketers have observed this tendency of 'fans' and created an industry that caters specifically to this parasocial relationship w/ fans - it's called kpop. They have manufactured stars that aren't ALLOWED have personal relationships in theor own lives lest it ruin the ILLUSION the fans have of having a personal relationship w/them. It's an ugly thing. I understand where Bowiewas coming from more than you do and I understand that much of his work was about loneliness and disconnection. It makes me cringe especially when I see his fans speak of him in pseudo-intimate terms - you never got that he was a remote figure. He styled himself as an alien from Mars. He wasn't your buddy.
@kahlyn4157
@kahlyn4157 4 жыл бұрын
Helvete_Ingres are you okay in the head? if it offends you when fans miss such an important person in the world than that’s not normal. i totally get what you mean but he had a big impact on a lot of peoples lives and we’re allowed to wish he wasn’t dead.
@helvete_ingres4717
@helvete_ingres4717 4 жыл бұрын
I am very okay in the head, I am not Why do you even follow Bowie if you're such an advocate for normality, when all he did was try to break molds? Doesn't sound like there was any impact on your life at all. You're a normie. Celebrity worship is the norm today so you defend it. I didn't say it offends me, I said it makes me cringe that people look on Bowie, or indeed any celebrity, like he was their buddy or soemthing. I have told you, it is impossible to 'miss' something you never had. You can 'wish he wasn't dead' all you want, your feelings are based on a false sense of relationship and are nothing to do with HIM. Bowie was a Buddhist btw. They don't 'wish' death away. You just prove you don't understand what he was about.

I waited for hours but my attempt to attend Ellen's David Bowie interview that day was sadly unsuccessful. As a big Bowie fan it was a huge disappointment. Later that night I learned that a very young adopted chinese girl living on my street was getting a liver transplant after years on a waiting list. I didn't know her much but I cried tears of joy, I didn't sleep much knowing she was on the operation table as every one lay in bed that night, i prayed for her to have a victorious second chance at life, that little courageous girl changed the life of many, including mine. Everytime I hear "China girl" now I think of her and how important it is to put things in perspective no matter what I'm going thru.

First concert I ever saw was the Serious Moonlight Tour way back in the day. Managed to get great seats for the Glass Spider Tour and some decent seats for the Sound and Vision tour. And managed to catch the "David Bowie is" exhibit when it passed through Tokyo last year. Didn't even know it was there but I see an ad for it in the Tennozu Isle station and literally went to see it after I grabbed lunch of course. Such great synchronicity it was. Had I not gone to that station to visit a restaurant for lunch I probably wouldn't have known it was there.

you don't 'miss him' b/c you didn't have any relationship w/ him that you don't still have w/ him now that he's dead. Every way you could connect to him, you can still do - you're equating yourself w/ people who actually knew him

@@helvete_ingres4717 You're not entirely wright, i'm afraid. His great mind had always been being in development and you was dying to know his next step and was hoping for a new miracle of perfect art. Now this hope have gone forever. Unfortunately. It has nothing to do with how his close ones feel, though I miss him another way and miss him badly.

@Rina R development is towards something; it's supposed to end at a certain point. You can't expect someone to hang around forever to produce a 'miracle of perfect art' for you. Death isn't sad, we've convinced ourselves that it is. You had no relationship w/him as a person - so examine what you're mourning when you say that you 'miss' him and look for it, and you'll be surprised to learn it's still there, it's no less there when the man was alive.

AS soon as Bowie started to talk? a huge smile appeared on me face. It was cuz he has STILL retained his english accent. The word 'icon'? was derived for Bowie.Lets face it, NO1 else is like him! he's a pure 1-off, (and that is something extremely rare and special!!)

This is literally the first time I have disliked something about the way she interviewed. I don't know if she felt intimidated interviewing someone like him or she just didn't give a shit about who he was. I don't know. Two of my favourite people (him way above) and was just really disappointed about how it turned out but not from him at all.

@Ken O'Neill Trying to embarrass him? Did we see the same interview? They were just fooling around after he made her more comfortable. She was very nervous in the beginning. She obviously admires him and he is always funny in interviews, not serious. I think he likes her more as a counterbalance than as a drooling fan.

What a waste of time for that beautiful soul. But, many were for him. Not many got him - they just didn’t look past the surface, and he was so brilliant, with millions of layers of gorgeousness. What a fabulous man we lost I was in Mustique a few times and oh so hoped that we might cross paths while I was there. I didn’t look for his schedule- but it would have been amazing. Not to be.

I'm always struck by how incredibly witty and downright funny David is. His music can be so incredibly dark and moody and even kind of depressing sometimes, but David in an interview is almost like a stand up comic. - Passport photos? - that's gold!

Bowie does have the most androgynous features, almost other worldly. I've been a fan of his since the 70's. I always found him hot and I'm a heterosexual woman. His wife is absolutely gorgeous and so exotic looking. His son from his first marriage is more manly man looking and is a great upcoming film/movie director. He was the director for Source Code, originally named Zowie Bowie but is now known as Duncan Jones.
