I made a some cozy bowls a few years ago using your video. I searched for YOUR tutorial to make some more again. I love your voice, your instructions, and the process. I was afraid the video had been removed or that I was not going to be able to find you. Thank you! You are the best!!!

After watching numerous videos on making these cozies, I was able to watch yours all the way through. First [and for me, most important] your voice is pleasant and easy to listen to. Next, you didn't talk and talk just to fill the air, your instructions were to the point and just enough. I'll try what Marlene mentions below for the darts as well. Thank you so much for the best instructions on cozies!!! I've subscribed :)

Thank you Craft Genie for taking the time to making this video. I have watched about every KZbin video on the Microwave bowl coozie I just found your this morning and I have to say yours is the best!!! You are straight to the point and easy to follow. I love your template for the darts and will definitely use that because I will be making many of this pattern. I also like that you do not cut the batting and fabric the same size. I tried to make one of these over the weekend following another pattern and it was a big mess, I can't wait to try your instructions because I think it looks so much easier and makes more sense and will be much less bulk on the edges. The Wrap n Zap batting (for the Microwave) I used seems very thick and I think your pattern will be so much better to work with. I am so glad I found your video this morning I was ready to give up on making this bowl coozie now I really think yours will work for me :) thanks again!!!

Measuring the dart from the edge of the batting makes the dart much deeper and the finished inside of the cozy smaller. On my second cozy I measured the dart from edge of Fabric. This makes dart shallower, the inside of the cozy roomier and many more sizes of bowls fit. The first one only my small bowl fit. So I do recommend measuring from edge of fabric.
@francescar56724 жыл бұрын
I measured from the edge of the fabric also and it was perfect. The cozy fit 3 sizes of my bowls.

Hi - I wanted to add a cautionary note that I picked up from friends who have sewing businesses. Cotton batting can have little metal shards and could spark in a microwave. MUCH safer is using Pellon's Wrap and Zap batting (my preference) and I have also heard that Warm Tater from the Warm Company is also metal-free. I make mine in a similar way but when I sell them I always add a caution to wash with cold water, air dry and to monitor while in the microwave. Also, both the top thread and bobbin thread need to be 100% cotton. Because I sell mine I am super cautious never to have anything that might melt or spark in my bowl cozies. I also take a smaller dart (1" by 2") after folding the fabric/batting in half. I can zip along and sew those darts quickly which is important for efficiency for my business. I love the detail of the decorative stitches - I'll have to try that!! Thanks

I also use decorative stitches on the criss cross & topstitching, I find it maintains the shape of the cozy much better than a straight stitch, most importantly after washing & shrinking has occurred w/the batting. Wrap-N-Zap eliminates the need for 2 layers of batting. I like that your decorative fabric is cut bigger than the batting - its much easier to sew ...

If you want another one for a casserole, the dart needs to be shallow (1" by 2.5") but all the way out to the edge, not just the batting as shown here. I start with 16" fabric square and 15" Wrap and Zap microwave batting for XL or 13" fabric and 12" Wrap and Zap. Same dart but as I said, out at the edges, not just in the batting. Good luck!!
@wilddoglewis56717 жыл бұрын
mary by the 1" x 2.5" for the larger squares do you mean where craft genie measures down 2 1/4 you make it 2.5 and where she measures a invh on both sides you do 1/2" on both sides? thsnks

Hi Craft Genie.I have watch several vidoe's on these also and love your the best.I want to make sure I understand this part.After you do your dart do you go and sew all around the batting before Turing it out to sew the top stitch.That was how it looks to me.Just want to be sure.Love this and thank you for the video :)
@craftgenie71068 жыл бұрын
+Carol Kimble Hi Carol, Thank you. You sew the darts on both pieces, front fabric and back fabric individually - no need to baste the batting in place just yet.. Then put the front and back together (pretty side to pretty side) and sew all around - just leaving a space open to turn it. I hope this answers your question, but it not, let me know.
@lindajimmerson85428 ай бұрын
Also great with bowl of cold ice cream?😋

PS - if you do put the whole thing in the microwave, ''wrap and zap" is the batting to get, and they recommend 2 minutes at a time in the microwave, no more than 8 minutes total. Wrap and Zap is the same thickness as regular batting.
@elainebilodeau61234 жыл бұрын
so many people just use the regular cotton batting, which is less expensive. I used the Wrap and Zap when I made mine. So I had to sell mine for a little more.

@craftgenie71067 жыл бұрын
I have not heard of anyone using bamboo batting in a bowl cozy. Although the label on many of the Bamboo battings I've seen state not to wash in HOT water, just cold or lukewarm. So if Bamboo can't take the heat, it may want to stay out of the microwave :-O

What a great tutorial Craft Genie, thanks. Might add some cording or bias around the edges though would be easier to bias if the fabric was cut in circles rather than Rectangles to avoid having to bias around corners. Do you think that's possible?

Make the corners rounded, then you could use a cording or binding on the edges
