The Camping Biker

Күн бұрын

On this occasion I had an overnight stay at Bowland Wild Boar Park Camping, a small campsite in the Forest of Bowland in Lancashire. The Forest of Bowland is an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and has perfect roads for motorcycling. It was late April and the weather very warm for this time of year in the UK.
The campsite is a small field and only available for tents, being part of a larger site which as the name suggests is a Wild Boar Park with lots of interesting activity, although at this time is only open at the weekends and Bank Holidays. There is a shop and cafe, however this opens in line with the Wild Boar Park, although the camping field is open throughout the week
On this trip I’m using my new 'Stealth Tent' the Mil-Tec Recom 1, details of which can be found here:

You mention Chipping and that really jogged my memory. More than 20 years back (ouch, that’s hard to admit) my friend and I flew into the UK with our bicycles. We initially started in Lewes where my friend had connections and then traveled down through the south to Lands End, then zig zagged a bit up through the Cotswolds and then up into Wales. After that we worked our way through some of the Peak District then managed our way staying between Manchester and Leeds generally until we got to Lancaster where we had other connections and a place to stay. I’m quite certain we went through Chipping. Nothing but small winding lanes. It was wonderful. We wanted to get to the Dales and Peak District but sadly ran out of time. We had panniers and full kit but stayed more at B&B’s and pubs. I remember that trip so fondly.

Wow Brad, that’s some bicycle trip..you must have (or still be) ultra fit! What a great way to see a country and you must have great memories! Chipping and all the roads in the Forest of Bowland are a very popular by route for riders. Sounds like you need to come back and finish off the bits missed (always welcome here) but maybe this time on a motorcycle 😆

I’ve gotten very lazy over the years. A motorcycle would be my choice now. Perhaps I’m smarter, too! And yes, I would like to visit there again. So much more to see!

Have watched many of your camp adventures by motorcycle, which I think are great, thanks. Informative, well made and (for me) exactly what I am looking for. Look forward to more of the same & I will be trying some of your previous sites very soon.

Love the Forest Of Bowland Andy. Great find by yourself. A camp site not far from Dunsop Bridge and great roads. Off on my Scotland NC500 trip on Sunday. Hope my Honda CB500X serves me well. Wish me luck. 👍
