Dayum! One time like 25 years ago, I showed up for league and found the same thing. Come to find out the oil machine broke, so no oil. I had an old Brunswick Black Diamond I used for a spare ball, and it was the only thing I could keep in the lanes that night! Very humbling experience!

This happens at our center all the time our lanes are a mess. Or they will forget lanes and not finish. It's crazy.

This is actually great practice conditions. Because it forces you to have to throw from different angles and boards you don’t normally play from.

I practiced on stripped wood lanes using a 3 Dot Magic line Rubber Ball. Lofting the Ball over the arrows with minimal side roll.

Welcome to the California SF east bay area late 70's lane conditions (sometimes). They could be blocked or....? To make matters worse, lofting on the wood lanes was discouraged. You had to have a "survival mode" in your arsenal and be prepared to shoot something just over 500 until next week when they might be blocked again. Choice of balls? Plastic or Rubber, hardness to be determined. Good times, much tougher than today.

I bowl in an impossible house. They put down 44 ft 25 mL 8 to 1 Big Ben at midnight, then they allow open house ball play all day and right before league they run the machine for 30 feet putting down more head oil. The result? 60 feet of oil!!! Massive carrydown. After one game it is virtually unplayable, my Gem at 1000 grit hydroplanes like a spare ball. Pins slide all over the place on the deck and do not fall. It never breaks down even with 8 people on a pair using resin, it just carries down more and more. Our 200 avg bowler shot 458 last week with his third game being a 135...

Fun video! Now for the follow up vid, bowl on a lane that has oil all the way to the pins, no dry. See if John will hook you up for that.

Last summer a few of us bowled some practice and the lanes were similar to what you had here. We all bowled three games and most of them were 120 and below. I had my urethane spare ball and it would keep from hooking. I tried flattening my hand and the ball kept hooking anyway. My best shots were throwing it hard while aiming from the left side of the lane towards the gutter at about half way down the lane or so. And yes 10-pins were impossible... :)

Fred Flintstone style, is the best way to go on stripped lanes. 25 mph at the 1-3

have you ever tried a wrist support/brace? i use one for bench pressing and it helps a lot for bowling

When you have the head pin in a spare it is called a (wash out)

sup, could've took some hand out but other than that dry lane is just a huge loft to gutter to have any hope of hitting the pocket. fun to try and entertaining to watch :)

That’s a lot of oil there my friend! Goes to show how HUGE of a difference that makes! Some challenges just aren’t cut for everyone Sarah but it doesn’t hurt that you tried something different and there ain’t nothing wrong with that as a KZbinr for the sake of parity and variety in terms of the content! Looking forward to all the daily videos to commemorate the Christmas Season!

Great video and it shows how much oil makes a big difference...i bowl duckpin and we usually do not have oil on wood lanes and we have some half and half houses were the front is synthetic and back end is wood...we do oil our plates but the ball for me is 5" around and weighs 3lb 12oz...i love it when there is no oil allows my ball to hook a little early and you can control it better...if you ever get out to Rhode Island or Connecticut area let me know i would love to join you for a try at duckpin or even bowl against you in tenpin...best regards and god bless

It's hard to make yourself just throw it straight at the gutter and believe that it will just hook back regardless. And whose puppy dog did I hear? I heard the bark and thought it was mine, had to rewind and make sure it was in the video, lol

This lane was completely stripped? The ball would definitely be hooking much much earlier if the lane was fully stripped.
