There’s just something off about this particular bowser castle i think’s because this track gives off an empty/eerie feeling as on the outside of the castle is nothing but lava for miles so it gives off this weird sense of isolation and the music definitely makes it more eerie

Most certainly. It's one of the creepiest locations in the franchise, and it's even more apparent on the Wii remake. The music sounds less rhythmic, the thwomps seem to be abnormal, and the track layout has a way of spreading out the competitors and hiding what's ahead such that it's rare to see all that many drivers at once

One of the best Bowser Castles in the whole series. The fact that it takes place in the middle of a lava sea next to nowhere on the horizon with this music playing is just mad eerie. Man the 64 era of atmosphere just goes and remains untouched.

Notice how the castle is just planted in the middle of nowhere? An endless sea of lava, a sky dead with no life, and a castle simply planted there. What if those who attempted to escape never made it out alive, instead, met a burning fate and noticed far too late that there was no escape from this hell castle. Those who attempted to escape, are they the ghostly chorus singing for us? Are their melodious voices trying to soothe us, or taunt us? The fate they faced is one that leaves them with eternal rest, as they sing with one another in their hellish graves.

I have a theory: since this course is after Royal Raceway, Bowser could have transformed the castle and surrounding areas into his castle (like his plan in SM64). I doubt it's true, but it would be very eerie if it was.

This is easily the best track in Mario Kart 64, and this theme really adds to why. It's so different from all the other music in the game, and most Mario games in general, and really adds a level of intrigue and apprehension as you enter the castle. The laughing, constantly moving Thwomps, the constant changes in the scary environment, and the general difficulty of the track really makes the chilling sensation this music provides all the stronger. While I feel the tracks in 64 were generally underwhelming or even bad, they absolutely nailed Bowser's Castle and set the bar high for the future, also great, Bowser's Castles in future Mario Karts.
