Before boxing all I did was sit in my room and play video games 24hrs a day 7 days a week, I had no job,no confidence, no friends and worst of all I had no self respect. That was 4 years ago and now Iam a completely different person. I honestly don't know where I would be today with out boxing. Boxing has given me the confidence to go out and get a job and make friends and get on with my life. Everyday I tell myself if I can boxing I can do anything. Walking into that gym for the first time was the hardest thing I've ever done but by far the best decision I've ever made. Great vid btw👍

I started to train boxing at age of 30 using just hevybag and Jason's videos. after 6 months I decided to try local boxing gym and test myself at another level. nobody there didnt belive me that it was my first time at boxing gym. 5 months later, i had my first exibitional fight, won it by decision. thanks for yor videos, you were main motivation at the time I started, and I still dont miss anything you publish on youtube. God bless you P.S. Sorry for my english :)

he's helped me no end. been training for 4 months now at the gym and he's had just as much involvement on my progress as my other coach at the gym. I'm training to have an amateur fight and will be buying his instructional guide when I start a camp although as a starter his free KZbin clips are unbelievably helpful. would love to have him as a full time coach

JT Van V definitely You can hear the passion not only in your talking, but in the way you genuinely want to teach proper boxing.A lot of people can box and they're gifted. But there aren't as many who have the gift of being able to teach it,or the want to teach it to others for that you have my utmost respect 👊🏻

I can relate to your story. I got bullied and I got beat up really badly on a couple occasions when I was in high school. I felt really insecure, and I started training in boxing when I was 16. It gave me confidence and inner peace. Fast forward, I decided I wanted to start an amateur career a year ago at age 22, but I injured my shoulder weight lifting, and it has never felt the same since. Luckily I didn't tear anything, and it's a chronic inflammation issue. I'm very passionate about boxing, and I want to get back in the boxing gym, and start a career. I just turned 23. At times when I try to box my shoulder hurts really bad, and I'm nervous I may tear my rotator cuff which would require surgery, and I may not be able to do anything with it. What do you think I should do???

Like most fighters, the biggest battles were within my own life. fighting truly bought me a inner peace. if I don't train i really can feel life's pressures overwhelming me. Fighting had also allowed me to train with like minded people all over the world. It's funny, most people who fight do it for similar reasons.

Almost haven't trained in half a year because i broke my wrist and hand. Saw that this video came out right when it came out, but didn't want to see it. Not because i actually don't want to see it, but because i feel guilty that i haven't been training and boxing videos provoke this. Reason why I'm watching it now is because I'm starting again tomorrow. Love your videos, you're a big inspiration.

I grew up getting picked on. Very troubled, always getting in confrontations. I was scared to stick up for myself. It was a mixture of not knowing who I am, overly respecting the opponent, and being all talk and no action. Never really gotten into a fight, just nearly getting into one. My family saw me as a hard ass, but I was a coward. It wasn't until I joined the army that I was confronted with an obstacle. Beat the guy in-front of me or get the shit beat out of me. So i was forced to perform. Surprisingly, me throwing hands came naturally to me and my speed was deadly. Once I realized this, I became someone else. Currently, I am now 24 and want to give boxing a try. 100% I was hesitant because people told me i was to old. Your video changed that for me. I signed up and had my first sparring match......destroyed the guy. He had more experience than me and was younger than me. And a south paw which was so confusing at first. But I did great and realized I have a natural talent for this sport. And most of all I really enjoy punching and getting punched lol (more punching than receiving though lol) So, thanks a bunch man, Im going to take this as far as fate lets me. Ill remember this video always.

True that, martial arts generally give inner peace and confidence to the ones who practice them, which at the same time lowers their amount of violent confrontations in real life. Not all of them sure, some remain conflictive assholes, but most of the time they go for the better. And one thing that many people don't get is that this benefit extends to ALL martial arts, not only the asian zen-like ones.

I had been watching your videos for over a year, training bits and pieces to supplement my Krav Maga, which really hadn't given me what I needed in terms of head movement or power generation. I learned to wrap my hands from your video on that topic. I decided I needed to go to the local boxing gym and start hitting a heavy bag. Combat gyms all smell of stinky boxing glove; an amplified version of the locker room stench that people who were un-athletic as kids associate with dread. Knowing some basics about footwork, working a heavy bag and how to wrap my hands from your videos gave me the confidence to start working in there by myself. One coach later remarked that I had 'near-perfect' technique, whilst another, really old school guy who had made remarks about my lack of extension and hand speed (so he knew his stuff), mentioned there were 'several really good coaches on the Internet nowadays.' When I asked him who, his reply was: 'Well, there's that Jason van wassiname guy'...

I am 57 years old and I have gone to a boxing session weekly for the last year. This is one of the best hours of my week. My coach does not call me by name. Josh Canty ( my coach ) calls me "57" when he speaks to me. I work with free weights and body weight excercises three times a week. I am twice as old as the other members of this club. I have been watching your videos for the past year to strengthen my commitment to this combat sport. I have learned a variety of methods to facilitate my learning curve from your tutorials. Thank you. I have improved my confidence and have accessed a personal self respect For my efforts to commit to this sport. I am to old to fight, but I would like to believe I could. When I say fight, I actually mean "to compete". I wish I had not waited this long. I am basically a person who will open doors for people and take a step back from confrontation, to the point of being intimidated. Not now. That does not mean I am now a bully, or that I would rather throw a punch without first attempting to descilate a situation, it means I have a confidence that I will not wilt from an altercation. It does not mean I believe that I am "all powerful" and cocky, it means that should you knock me down, I will embrace the situation and get up, not to run, but to meet you with a combination that you will not see coming. You will know I am in the house. Thank you.

Thanks for the video, very interesting and unexpectedly it touched a very sensitive nerve. I've only been to one session but will force myself not to quit. Will make sure to progress and improve. Thanks again. Truly inspiring.

Brother, started training in ITF Taekwondo at 22, got my 1st Dan black belt, learned a bit of Wing Chun, Muay Thai, Kali, Krav Maga, Kick boxing, Judo, Jujitsu, Brazilian Jujitsu, Boxing etc and ran a business teaching youth. How or why did I start? When I was a youth I was picked on a lot. Introduced to combat against a close friend of mine who was also picked on. We used to have our own fight club at the corner of school for fun. However we got caught so many times (we even shook hands afterwards cause it was fun) that my parents found out. My dad told me violence is not good and never to hit people. Now as I went through school I was in many, many fights as I stood up for myself. I fought kids who came to school just to fight me (ones who we're expelled). Ive always been small as other guys grew larger than me. Fighting just was natural. I remember fighting 5 guys. I lost and cops have been involved many times. Teachers don't stick up for you, hell my niece's/nephews get beat around and they don't do anything about it. So yeah, I got into martial arts late in life to compliment my weight lifting. It was boring throwing weights around and because I was used to being hit in the face fighting was natural for me. Eventually it changed me as I didn't care about others. As I began teaching I started giving a damn about the children/youth that I taught. Martial arts opened my eyes and I continue to train at 33.
