Good content easy to follow. I used some of you videos to help me get ready for my first fight last year. I started at 33 years of age always wanted to try boxing and when I started last year I haven’t stopped. I have my second fight this March 28th and can’t wait. I’m kind lucky because I have guys who will drop down to my lvl and help me improve. I’m raising money for Cancer research uk and the event that I’m taking part in is white collar. If you have anything els you could help me with that would be great🤟 also thanks for all the content you haven kindly free given me ❤️

Yo I'm 34 and totally obsessed with boxing, boxing plus kicks, Leth Wei and MMA. Been training for 4 yrs. I'm a switch hitter like haggler, well read like Tunney, Will o the wisp inspired footwork, lomachenko angles, GGG power. So much knowledge when everyday you add a little more understanding. Can't say I'm anywhere near the greatest but I won't let my age stop me from pursuing what I can't stop myself from pursuing anyway.

You always mention old boxers as examples. Not everybody can relate to them. I'm aware of how fantastic fighters they were but it would be refreshing to hear about an active fighter. Someone younger people can follow analize and actually relate to. The sport has evolved since Hearns and Hagler you know

Most trainers will teach good set ups and combinations on mitt drills. Maybe it’s a little more advanced but I’d like some insight on reading the opponent. I.e he drops his hand after his jab, over commits throwing a 2, etc. and/or if he’s reading you the same, should I throw those soft jabs to see how he reacts and where he opens himself up?

I was working with some kid who is trying to learn the game and he never blocks like what you showed and he preferred to parry every punch. In fact he resisted even learning how to cover up because he didn't know how to do it and my gloves hitting his hands made him punch his own face. Of course his parry opened him up to feigned punches and his hands are way out of position to block the real shot and I showed it to him and got him to learn how to block with minimal movement. How often do you see this with students? I don't work with many of these young fighters since it's not my job so I don't know. I just end up working with a lot of amateurs because I'm good holding mitts and a lot of these young guys never get any mitt time with their coaches.
@PrecisionBoxing
@PrecisionBoxing 7 жыл бұрын
+George Ou its very common for people to feel that they have to reach to parry every punch. Most people have a hard time with a solid cover. But sometimes you get the exact opposite
@GeorgeOu
@GeorgeOu 7 жыл бұрын
Just to make sure I'm not giving people the wrong info and/or using the wrong strategy myself, please tell me if I'm right or wrong. I told the kid you need to learn and employ blocking, parrying, and slips depending on the situation. If you can parry or slip that's great and it's usually done at longer range unless you got insane reaction times or you're confident you have enough against your present opponent. But at closer ranges inside the pocket it's extremely hard to slip or parry so you need to know how to cover up like all professional boxers, kickboxers, Muay Thai, and MMA fighters. Also if you're throwing a punch your other hand better know how to cover up.
@liocean9636
@liocean9636 7 жыл бұрын
Elbows tucked, chin down, eyes up! Telephone those gloves ear to chin! Drill him just with defense and footwork until he learns to cover better. Kids these days only think about hitting. That's why his defense is so poor. Since you said he won't cover, he's not been hit hard yet! First you learn how to take a hit then how to not then get hit. It's how you train the mind of a fighter with risk and reward.
@skip741x3
@skip741x3 5 жыл бұрын
Wouldnt be surprised from how you described his defense, that the kid likely did martial arts b efore doing boxing.. they arent comfortable with keeping hands up and will overreach on the parries

Great video as always buddy, one question I have: Sparing guys that have very long guard and stay away when I have more of a mike tyson style of boxing, compact and better on the ropes, these guys are very difficult to hit in the head area as they lean back allot and deflect your jab or straight right as well as being sharp counter punchers too, seems the bodies the only way to attack? any thoughts from the champ?

The only thing I'm a bit confused at, the taller fighter literally crouched to the point that he basically negated his height advantage completely, was there any reason? Obviously a bend in the legs is necessary to appropriately twist the hips and ground/support you but this seemed exessive. I may be wrong. Anyway, keep up the great work and I'll sub if havent already 🥊
