This was an awesome movie; but I always found it funny that emotions were "suppressed," but they seem to forget that anger, fear, retribution, smugness, callousness, etc. are emotions too - and EVERYONE exhibits them.
@slosubies48452 ай бұрын
The general conclusion was that it suppresses the extremes of emotion, not completely eliminating them. That's enough for me to get over what others might call a plot-hole.
@vampsteiner37622 ай бұрын
The implication is what father says at the end, most everyone in the higher positions of the tetragrammaton was feeling one way or the other, that's why Brandt was always smiling and why the "lie detector" guy flinches when preston looks at him with intent to kill. The idea being that no matter the precepts on which a control system is built, sooner or later those who hold that power of control will irreversibly subvert or corrupt those same precepts to stay in power. Hypocrites, bah.
@logicalrationalfishing7481Ай бұрын
I was working up a similar content. The emotion to be a Nazi style A-hole and murder like a drone is also some form of emotion. I mean even eating plain old tasting slop requires some point of enjoyment. Still a cool movie like you said, but emotion suppression would give you a machine, not cold blooded, sarcastic, cocky officers wanting to destroy art. Just to recognize art as bad requires you to have some emotion towards it.

@ДмитрийОсипов-м9д I think this was the point at the end. I expected the leader to have emotions but it turns out all the ruling class were sense offenders-they just kept the public emotionless as it was easier for the regime to control them that way. The general conclusion among the fan-base years ago is that the drug suppresses emotion but doesn't eliminate it. No more extreme highs and lows, but people are still basically human and feeling. You take a character like Taye Diggs' Brandt that would normally be unhinged and put them on the drug, they might still show some emotion more than someone who is normally even-keeled like Preston on the drug. The other theory is that Angus and his selected few (like Brandt) are not on the drug, enjoying the luxury of their full range of emotions while they control everyone else.
