I love the way the Horseman pauses to gently stroke Daredevil's muzzle before mounting. He might have been a bloodthirsty bastard, but even a bloodthirsty bastard can love something or someone... even if it's just a horse. It makes you realize that the horse is a SEPERATE ghost, and he is willingly with his master. Daredevil followed the Horseman and rose to his call when he did. The two truly are inseperable partners, in this life and the next.

He actually took a step forward towards Ichabod and Katrina, as if he was going to thank them, for helping him find his head! Then, he got his Horse back, and, after snatching up that Evil Mistress, he gives her the toothiest kiss I ever saw...and then he whisked her away, to Sheol, the land of the wicked dead! Or...was that Hades?!? My bad... sometimes, I get the two mixed up.

He was under someone else's control. More likely he was fighting against her this whole time, but he's admittingly a man who loves battle and had done horrible things because he genuinely enjoyed it. He however seemed to know Katrina was genuinely innocent and all Ichabod was doing was protecting her, much like Brom. She may have looked a lot like his puppetmaster, but he never went after the Crone Witch either because despite being her twin, she just ran away from him, doing what he wanted her to.

In my opinion, the headless horseman was thanking them for giving him his head back and the curse was broken when he took her with him to hell or wherever they went to in the tree. If I were the headless horseman, I'd verbally say thank you all for my head, then I would rest for all the bad things I did willingly. Especially cutting off people's heads. The headless horseman was scary at first when I saw the movie in 2014, before graduation from high school. But overall, the movie is very good and I love the story of sleepy hollow.

Soldiers from Hessia (now a western province of Germany) had quite a good reputation back in the day as tough and disciplined mercenaries, maybe that made its way into the story in this form. On that note, all male Hessians served in the military for a minimum of 24 years (!) so they probably earned that reputation, even if things weren't as exaggerated as in this folk tale.

I like how they show the Hessian wasn't necessarily evil-just a hard charging hell-for-leather cavalryman with a bloodlust-qualities for a really good cavalryman of the time. He really does care for his horse Daredevil, and when encountering the girls in the woods softly shushes them to be quiet. He doesn't retaliate when the one intentionally snaps a twig, and to be taken up as a cursed ghost for the manipulations of someone that is actually evil and then taking revenge upon this evil shows he's chaotic 'good' in my book. Who knows, maybe he grew up a sickly child with a love for animals that made him shunned and bullied that grew into a burning blue flame for revenge against people in general.

First time I've seen this scene in over 20 years. And you know what the first thing I noticed about the effects is? They didn't know how to directly animate eyeballs reforming in the eye sockets. Doesn't matter whether this was a practical effect, a CGI effect, or some combination of practical and "CGI blending" to make it smoother so it doesn't look like stop-motion animations. REGARDLESS - they just didn't know how to make it look convincing. So they "cheated" it by having the horseman duck down below the frame just a moment, and when he pops back up again - hey! There's the eyes! I mean - I GET IT. This is not a criticism. CGI was in it's infancy back then. There's only so much you can do sometimes. You work with what you've got and what you can do. And the overall effect WORKS. I just find it subtly amusing that I FINALLY caught that little "cheat" after all these years.
@Butrnife15
@Butrnife15 2 ай бұрын
You totally could be right, that duck away was the perfect break for certain tricky animations. But I think it's also very fitting for just intentional drama, giving the audience some of the gross-out/gore muscle and sinew forming, and then also a startle/scare moment of suddenly eyes and tongue and screaming. So while I would say they certainly took advantage of that duck to smooth over some of the trickier transitions, I wouldn't assume they put it in there just for that purpose. I think it was an intentional creative choice as well!
