Your tutorials are always brilliant - Always very clear and you have enabled me to confidently do so much on my Boxster since getting it -thereby making it an affordable super car. I particularly value the bigger picture/thinking ahead "tips" that make things that bit easier such as in this video - loosening the disc screw before completely removing the bottom bolt on the caliper Thanks again.

Nice to see you again with your little tutorials, Paul. When you open the brake fluid reservoir, loosen the cover completely but leave it on the reservoir. The DOT4 is very hungry for water ... When there is no more cover on the jar, the DOT4 takes moisture from the air which is in contact with its surface. This air, which has become dry, is less dense than moist air, dry air is constantly flown away and is permanently replaced by more dense moist air. Therefore all the time without a cover allows the DOT4 to absorb moisture. If you leave the lid simply placed on the jar, the DOT4 will only absorb the small amount of air in the jar (which is negligible), then will no longer absorb it. Normally, the DOT4 should be changed every two years, but we know that it is rarely done. So to extend the life of the DOT4 always leave the cover on the jar.

Thanks for the tip, I changed the fluid when we fitted the new servo, that was probably 3 or 4 years ago now.

Hi Jon, I found the 63ft lb on the web, but everybody was saying that's what they had heard and didn't know if it was correct or not. as for the bracket, you know me, anything to make life a little easier, lol its nice to have a little time to enjoy the things you love, made me realise I'm working to much,

Not to bad, high maintenance being so low, but I knew that so it's small cosmetic repairs ever 2 or 3 months, didn't help when some muppet clipped it one night and broke the indicator lens, both are coming up in videos soon, so you can get the whole story lol

Hi Paul just have a couple of points for you. You should of Wire Brushed/Cleaned the mounting surface on the Hub and smeared a thin layer of Copper Grease on there to make removing Discs a lot easier in the future, also same with Mounting Screws. You also should of used Blue Locktite on Caliper Bolts and torqued them to 63lbft. I know this as I do all my own work on my Caymen S. Keep up the good work. Mick 👍🍻

Did you clean the discs after spraying WD40? I would have avoided WD40.
@Paul1962
@Paul1962 5 жыл бұрын
Yes I cleaned everything, didn't tuch up the paint work on the calipers as I couldn't find my red paint, I did repaint the centre of the rear disc's to clean the look up a bit more and match the look of the fronts, I didn't clean the inside of the rims, which I would normally take the opportunity to do while they are of the car, but we were running out of time. I think keeping everything thing clean and painted especially under the wheel archies is what makes a car stand out. I try not to promote any particular brands, but a penetrating oil of some type is essential for removing stubborn bolts
@ripmax9572
@ripmax9572 5 жыл бұрын
@@Paul1962 You can tap the driver with a hammer while turning to loosen the screw if it is stubborn without resorting to penetrating oil. The idea is like an impact socket. Also I would switch the screws out to Philip's head screws and not tighten them so tight.

@Paul1962

My sincerely apologies, I misinterpreted your last reply(driver, you meant the screwdriver?). you could indeed use an impact style approach, I tend to use that as a last resort, I prefer working with a penetrating oil first as it is less stressful on the components.

I can't get anywhere near undoing the two Phillips bolts even after hours of WD-40. They just won't budge at all. Do you have any suggestions?
@Paul1962
@Paul1962 4 жыл бұрын
Heat them up, really hot, they should move then, you can also try an impact driver, or both!
@bobzeknob
@bobzeknob 4 жыл бұрын
@@Paul1962 would an impact driver not just destroy the head of the bolt? Also, what would you suggest heating with. A blow torch? Thanks!

Excellent info. Will need to do these soon; the one thing I can say is Europe made weird engineering decisions with wheels lugs and not using stubs. Why complicate things! Try changing a wheel in a side of the road during a winter storm in the dark! But love it anyway and cheers from Canada!
@Paul1962
@Paul1962 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, strange choice, they don't promote changing the wheel at the side of the road anymore here in the UK. They say its to dangerous now days! they recommend a brake down service or one of these emergence tyre inflator thingy's

Another good video, wish I'd seen it before forking out £550 to get mine replaced. Would be good idea with a video like this, if you could add an edit to beginning letting us know what tools and sizes etc you used. I did find the music a little loud and distracting.
@Paul1962
@Paul1962 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry about the music, lol It's a bit of a new concept for me, still trying to get to grips with the idea. I'm going to improve the next video by adding a tools list to the parts bit, so you get a list of tools and parts, be told to put the list at the end to encourage people to watch the whole video, but I will see how it works out.

I started an editing course a few weeks back, music and sound effects were just some of the new concepts I was introduced to, so still trying to work that bit out, lol. also its very hard to get good royalty free music for free. can I ask is it the actual music or the way I've applied it? or both, lol. I appreciate so I can try and in prove the videos.
