Think it would be good for you to get a nice set of pry bars for checking suspension bushes and stuff. Also don’t for get to give each wheel a good wobble to check for play in ball joints, bushes and bearings. Garage look amazing 👍

If it were mine, I'd drop the engine and gearbox, do the IMS bearing and replace the rear seal. It's possibly worth going for one of the retrofit systems that allow the IMS to get better lubrication as well.

Good to see the channel progressing, would be nice to find out about who you have on, as an intro, and a little audio treatment in post production, or maybe a spot in the garage that has a little acoustic treatment for presenting sections to get echo down. Just a helpful suggestion hopefully, great content.

A few friendly tips: Lovely to see a Boxster back! But I wouldn't worry about the IMS bearing too much but as you say if you're taking the gearbox out at some point it's worth replacing (but check previous records if it has already been changed) The audio/echo levels when you talk inside your garage are really horrible, any way of improving the sound with absorbing panels or simply talk to the camera elsewhere? I can't believe someone would track a car without first being underneath it to have a look or am I just being overly safe!?

Must admit I looked at buying a boxster from this era a wile back and had planned a gentle drive directly to a specialist to get the risky intermediate shaft bearing (and clutch and main seal) changed straight away. Having said that, if a standard bearing has lasted >60k miles, I see little point paying out for some of the exotic replacement bearing options.
@mrradman2986
@mrradman2986 3 жыл бұрын
I think the opposite. I recently had the IMS bearing changed for the EPS needle roller bearing upgrade on my 2004 3.2S. The car is low miles and I hadn't spent much on it anyway. The last thing you want to be thinking about when driving the car as intended is whether any slight noises as you get near the limiter are the bearing about to disintegrate on you. Having had mine done it is great just to enjoy driving the car without thinking about it.

If it is anything like other Porsches, diff will not be 90K, it will be 90K OR e.g. 12 years. So if this has not been done in 17 years, it is high time. Even then it is awful long and that dates back to a time when manufacturers tried to get away with the "lifetime" gearbox etc fillings, so either way, that juice needs to get out. I don't know much about the Tiptronic, but at least with the PDK, it has two circuits, one for the actual gearbox section and one for the rest of the shifting hardware, for which the interval is half that of the gearbox. Many people are not aware of that, this may be true for the Tiptronic as well.

put it this way mate if i had a choice to get a 1999 boxster with the fried egg lights with high miles or the 2003 with low miles id take the high mileage car all day long!! cause all the recalls have been done and things that did go wrong were replaced. u just becarfull over there with that single row bearing ill stick with my fried egg headlight with the dual row. and u would assume that it is the RMS however when that single row ims is going bad it vibrates behind the flange upseting the seal causing it to leak as well when ever u see oil its either 5 things!! rms spark plug tubes oil pan gasket oil seperater hose or ims always assume its the ims!! even if its not and change it. any of the other stuff wont blow your engine up. my 2000 boxster 2.7 dual row ..lol was leaking oil i had it checked... spark plug tubes and oil pan gasket thank god.

@@g9icy Always lots of scare mongering on forums, always a " my uncles Aunties friend story...." Mapping yes to a point.... but coding highly doubt it.... at the wnd of the day, you could pay a garage to code your car, for a service, same as any other company working on your brakes, servicing etc.... they cant cancel a warranty for that, so I doubt very much they could legally have a leg to stand on for coding, let alone try it.....plus....what really are you going to code on a newer bmw?? coding is crap in all honesty.

@@germancarfan360 Turning "active sound" off would be my main thing. But this has happened... it's not widespread yet, and I don't think BMW dealers are checking for it unless they have a reason to fuck you over. The examples I've seen so far have been to do with the dealer trying to get out of a warranty repair and using the fact that the car has had coding as an excuse, then charging the owner several hundred pounds for a system software "reset" to keep the warranty. To be fair the G series BMW's seem to have a lot more options now than the F's, so less reason to do coding, but it's worth point it out regardless. It is, after all, in their small print that such modifications void the electronics warranty. (not the mechanical warranty)

I coded stop start to off on an approved used F30 with a years BMW warranty. It had about 6 visits for warranty claims in the first year. No mentions of coding or issues. I noticed on my E90 that went in for a recall that they reset my coding options. Had to do them again. No mention of it though.
