While I only knew Boyd as a KZbin viewer, he was clearly a kind and gentle soul. And SO talented. RIP Boyd

Boyd is a long time friend of mine. He used to live in my hometown in Janesville Wisconsin. I’ve known him for over 30 years. What some might not know is he used to be really big into RC car racing. We spent many days and nights racing all over Wisconsin and Illinois. He had to move years ago to take a great job opportunity. He started up his Trekwotks days after he moved. He was a great friend of mine. I actually have his last RC car that he raced against me. He sent it to me a few months ago to put with mine. I have them on display together as memories of time gone by and our friendship.

OMG....I visited him late April....He was so exuberant and, for lack of a better word, alive! I thought he was completely on the mend. This news comes as a complete shock to me. I was one of the ones who purchased one of his models to help him finance his treatments. I drove to his house through 6 states to meet my internet idol in modeling and collect my purchase to bring home. Boyd was really friendly and, easily, the coolest old nerd I've ever met. He showed me his model room and his workspace. We talked for over 7 hours about old science fiction shows/films and the similar eras we both grew up in. I consider myself so fortunate that I got the chance to know him and spend the time with him. I will really miss him. RIP Boyd Crompton.

This is one person I’ve been inspired since I started my first 1/350 Refit and Boyd made it look so easy for me. I missed him already 😢. It’s so sad to hear a good man passing away with cancer. I’ve just had Stage-2 Kidney Cancer ♋️ and I can relate to his battles. Rest in peace now Boyd. Your sufferings are over and we thank you for sharing your talent. I missed you already 😢

I just had a tumor removed from my kidney too, on June 5. I was lucky, it was on the outside of my left kidney. After the surgery, my friend said that I looked like I was hit by a baseball bat😜😊 For you, stage 2 isn’t so bad. My surgeon told me that most kidney tumors never “seed” to other organs in the body. So, if you and me had ours removed, we are in the clear - for now. My dad had kidney cancer at basically the same age as me. He later couldn’t swallow, felt sick all the time. He died in 2009 of esophageal cancer. They found a stage 4 tumor in his esophagus, where it meets the stomach. If you or anyone you know, feel sick when waking up, it is most likely “GERD - Gastrol Esophagal Refux Disease”, when acid comes up your neck as you sleep. It burns your esophagus, then turns to scar tissue, then turns to cancer. Raise your headboard of your bed, with bricks, blocks or anything that will lift it up. This keeps the acid in your stomach. Trust me, I have suffered with this a long time and it has helped me. Also look at foods you should avoid with “GERD”. This will help you and save your life.

I will say a special prayer for Boyd at and his family at Mass tomorrow. ✝️✝️😔. Years ago my father told me a good way to honor someone is to emulate their talents as much as possible. With all of the wonderful things Boyd taught me through his great KZbin videos, I can truthfully say I am a better person and better at this model building hobby. God bless Boyd, he was a true model building expert and his voice could’ve been great on radio or tv. He was such a a master at dioramas and lighting. I wish that I knew as much as him. Such a great guy, incredible builder and educator to the community. I knew when I didn’t see anymore videos by him, that something was wrong. Then I researched and it was obvious in a way, but also shocking too. Boyd will always be remembered. I even wrote the company that Boyd was trying to build a 1/8 scale Batmobile, I wanted them to give Boyd the parts for his last build, of course, money was their objective, and didn’t help him build it. I hope someone can continue to build it for him. I know he was like me, he loved the classic “Batman”. RIP Boyd, your skills will continue to help everyone.

I had the pleasure of meeting him when I traveled to his home to pick up a Polar Lights 1/350 model of the TOS Enterprise I had him build for me. Sympathies to the modelling community for your loss. I enjoyed Boyd’s content a lot. You mentioned that Boyd was thinking about doing a 6 foot Enterprise. Why doesn’t the community band together and do a tribute build? You could recruit guys like Lou Delmaso and other Trek builders and do a team build and do a reveal at Wonderfest.

Oh no. 😢 Boyd and his channel Trek Works was one of the main channels which got me back into buying plastic model kits again a few years back with plans on taking up my old hobby from my youth. Him, Interstellar Modeler, Eagle Models, Lou Dalmaso was the first ones I watched, then the list has grown of channels of sci-fi plastic model builders I have subbed to and watch regularly. I saw he was selling off some of his models a while ago. I had no clue prior to that that he was battling cancer. Sadly I could not afford any of his amazingly built models. His Alien Nostromo was one I was really amazed by how he built and lit it, plus I am in mainland Europe and getting any of them all the way here in one piece would have been pretty much an impossible task. I never knew he was this ill. I thought it was early stages and that it would all be fine. Such a great loss of a person who seemed so humble although all the skill he possessed. I hope his channel is kept up and not getting removed by YT after some time. Unless that is his familys wish of course. Darn, this is so sad. He was such an inspiration. Just a few years older than I am. I am so sorry for his family and close friends.

I'm bummed! Just got into this online modelling stuff this past year, after being a life long modeller myself, like my dad before me, and Boyd was one of my go-to guys. Now I'm retired, getting back into this passion more again, and Boyd was one I watched for inspiration, and to pick up a few tips I might not have thought of. Knowing he was ill, I was about to contact him and give him my thanks and my best wishes and prayers personally, only for us to lose him all of a sudden. My best to his family, friends, and all the fellow modellers out there. I hope his videos will continue to run on utube for long to come for all of us and the new modellers who come along. R.I.P.? On the morning of March 16, 2024, she got sick, choked, ran for the toilet, stumbled , fell and hit her head on the floor. We found her on March 17, St Patrick’s day 2024. We had a week to prepare her funeral I would have your mom live with you or someone you are close with. It can happen so fast, even if she’s doing well on her own. Don't worry bout rambling, this vid was from the gut-- always appreciated, if not enjoyed exactly. Boyd was quite a character. I didn't know him as well as you-- but I'd been in touch over the past year or so on a fairly regular basis. One level of friendship to another. In fact, this past month my "usual" time came and went and then I thought, well, I'll wait till after the Fourth and Fridays are when he does his chemo time. So this upcoming Monday will be just right. Alas, not to be. While not a shock-- he did have a good prognosis but cancer is always tricky-- he had a good attitude. That is what I think can tilt health outcomes to the better. So this was a surprise-- mostly because he sounded so good a month, 5 weeks back. As for the rest of your chat-- well, if the "big guys" like those who provide those gigantic vehicle n figure kits can't get stuff to march out on time, neither can a garage kit provider. Going from a great prototype to preparing for an unknowable number of orders is expensive. In fact, the recent prices of raw material, resins and mold rubbers, is double over just a year ago. (A particular metal dust is triple.) I would like to think better of my industrial modeling comrades-- those who provide for us -- but I cannot help but stoop to the phrase "opportunistic price gouging." Maybe, maybe not... Sure seems sudden. I well understand your continuing upset over Boyd-- I am still feeling sucker-punched. These are interesting times and he wanted to seize them-- like we all wish or hope to. His future plans of trying to "box the compass" and have something kit and entertainment oriented in the South, in San Antonio of course, seemed very do-able. I was interested in trying to help. One of the anchor concepts was that 6 or 7 foot Enterprise, I think the Refit-- would be finalized. I'm confused only because a "6-7 foot" Refit would be Studio Scale and that dimension for a TOS would just be big. I think his acquaintance with Paul Olsen would have made a Refit a phenomenal draw-- imagine him painting a "new" Refit. What I'd like to thank you for, in particular, was sharing some photos of him and his family-- my heart goes out to them all. I think much of his positivity was directed at remaining here to be with them longer. And he was young. As for your channel-- geez, Steve, I tried to stick with all the metal kits. But ti-i-i-immme, it's time. It's half a day-job over a week watching everyone put these things together. Even Boyd did one... I just don't have that kind of time anymore. (No hints-- I'm still relatively healthy at 69, but the wife has a crazy idea to see the UK and Paris soon, so I have assembling and hustling some artwork, which I never thought to do and my non-business side is flaring up... ) Plus, I just never "took" to the die-cast kits. The "subscription" format barely helps the total sticker shock. Then there's a place in the new wing of the house that needs filling... call the carpenters... A plastic model kit is finite, only waiting for the occasional after-market item or supply. The "business" side of keeping a channel going is what has stopped me. If KZbin were any less pleasant or byzantine to deal with, none of us would be here. The need for "regular" uploads is hard for me to contemplate-- I can barely keep track of normal life stuff. For example, how Lou Dalmaso does it, is beyond me, especially when he had a day job. Between me and you-- when you came back big with a raft of die-cast kits, I said 'fine' and decided to do the "algorithm" thing-- I would watch each video, like and comment. My comments were a little threadbare, which you might guess I do not like to do. But I generally comment when I have some aspect I like or am tickled by. Which is not a thing with die-cast kits for me. What got me off-track was a lengthy re-modeling of the kitchen, which slopped over to the so-called sun-room. Beat me up and got me off my normal "down time." pursuits. Speaking of miserable swinish corporate scum, a coupl'a years ago, YT changed the entire algorithm and made things much harder for "fringe" content-- which i think describes the modeling community. The ratio of subs to watchers seems depressing. It seems only gigantic entities (Mr. Beast comes to mind) seem to be forgiven all transgressions and uplifted-- everyone else is barely there. But I admire your determination to persevere-- I think you should. As for you-- you take care of your mom, give her a big hello from a total stranger!

Know exactly what you’re going through with your mom and trying to do your own things and they get put to the side to serve others in life. It’s tough.

My father was a modeler and died of cancer, makes me think that we should be very careful with all the chemicals.
