We built 3 sets of twin-size bunk beds to make "rooms" within a room so each boy could have privacy and a personal space, but still be in one room.

if you are reading this comment now, please don't be snarky or mean spirted. Andrea passed away yesterday. She was pregnant with their 10th child and began not feeling well. Doctors found cancer cells on her liver and gallbladder. She miscarried the baby and died within 36 hours of that. Prayers and good thoughts with this family, they have a tough road ahead.

people are over thinking everything. she doing her best to give the boys their own space. i mean she said it was only a 2 bedroom house, and maybe she can’t afford a bigger home, but she put in the time and effort to give the boys as much personal space as possible. i once had to share a room with my siblings and our room wasn’t this cool but i was still happy. idk. i just think people need to lay off

VicGames Vt if she cares that much about keeping her home I’m not understanding why they just don’t add another room/bigger room to the house. As much as it’s nice that the kids get to spend a lot of time together, they’re going to need a space of their own, bigger than 7 by 4 feet.

@VicGames Vt and so what? My grandma bought a big ass house to accommodate all her kids and they were all gone by 21 the latest. Now it's just her and my little sister occasionally it's too much for her to clean and she moved so much to accommodate every new child then grandchild that this house doesnt have all that much sentimental value.

I don't have the slightest clue why there are so many haters here!? If you don't like it then go watch a different video lol it's simple! This is a BRILLIANT IDEA! I wanted to be a critic too at first bc I didnt think it was 'right' jamming that many kids in one room. But if you actually watch the ENTIRE video and LISTEN with your EARS and not with your MOUTH, you will note that she not only answers every question, but goes into explicit detail in each of the comments elaborating upon this incredible room design concept. Ive personally never seen anyone accomplish such an OUTSTANDING job at engineering a private personalized space for their children on a minimalist budget and with little to no expenses. Her videos are to help educate others that may also have the same structural limitations and a large family. That's what youtube is for most of the time. To HELP eachother. We need to UPLIFT eachother and SUPPORT one another! 😄😄 @Andrea Mills your hubby and you did a PHENOMENAL JOB!

I think it's awesome and would love to do something like this, but it wouldn't be legal in my town. Bedrooms are required to be 50+ sq ft per person (where I live). The room would have to be a little bigger to have 5 or 6 kids in it (probably just about enough for 4, though).

For 3 years Andrea has been such a blessing to me and my motherhood journey. She was such a wise, loving, gentle, and caring person. Such a loving wife and mother. She worked so hard to make every day, every event, every birthday, and every holiday making it special for everyone. I hope that all the kids can treasure these videos in years to come and see how much love their mother poured out on them. God bless you Mills family! You are in my prayers.

Answers to FAQs. (Edited 1/9/19) 1. We have 5 sons: Thomas (17), Asher (15), Judah (13), Justus (11) and Solomon (6). 2. We have 4 daughters: Eden (8), Sophia (5), Claudia (3) and Hannah (8 months). The girls share a different room. 3. These bunks are 90" long. We have twin mattresses in them, but they can accommodate XL twins, which are the same length as kings. 4. We have no plans to change anything at this point. Seven years ago we didn't have plans to do this, either. We deal with problems as they arise. If this becomes a problem, we'll deal with it. 5. We do not accept public assistance - including public schooling. We support ourselves with a home-based computer repair business. 6. We have a net worth greater than 75% of people our age. We didn't get there by being people who buy the biggest and best of everything. We are content with what we have and we try to find creative solutions to our problems. 7. We like our house. We bought it as newlyweds and 3 of our babies were born in it. We live in small town that doesn't have many bigger, better houses. All of that means we would rather customize our own house then start looking for the "perfect" one elsewhere. 8. It's so sad to me how many people have the basic assumption that the value of a human life is dependent on their possessions. (ie. if you don't possess x, y or z you'd be better off never having been born.) It's no wonder there is so much sadness and hopelessness in the world. You are enough just the way you are. I hope that at least some of you will finally understand that your relationship to your struggles in life is best met with personal competence, rather than commercial acquirement. If you do, you will understand why we do what we do, even if you'd rather make different choices for yourself.

I wish my parents had thought of something like this...4 girls, 4 boys...we had traditional bunk beds back then (I'm in my 60's and the oldest of us all) but I did color code my sons' toothbrushes, cups, some other things, let them give me their favorite colors for the older two, and assigned the younger two their colors per what I could find...it works! They are grown now, they all seem to like the same color..but they have their own homes, so that's OK. Blessings! OH and great job!!!

Every one is Giving negative feed back but i think for her to have a small house with all boys she did her best compare to some moms that dont do shit. She try her. Best on a buget making her kids feel good and feel like they have there own room. And i like the fact that she did that and made the room. Fun even if its small. And let them pick thier own decor in side there beds. And i like the fact. That this boys are gonna spend time with each other. And dont have to much toys. Like kids now a days have ps4 xbox one and wat i see is a simple. Room yes true small but homie like she said. But if u look very good. They not that small. Looks like twin size matters in there. She took a small space and made a great room. Small simple. But great idea

my absolute favorite part of it is the individuality. if someone were to only watch the first minute or so they think its a super strict boring home with no self expression for the kids but when you started pulling back the curtains and showed each "room within a room" it really shows that you're committed to raising humble young men who have their own personalities as opposed to being all completely the same. its a small space but you worked with it and let your kids choose how they wanted to have their space be and its super cute.

I live in the other side of the world, completely different mentality, & different life.. I saw this video almost one year ago, it was kinda difficult to understand your life, it is different, & I'm embarrassed to say that I was harshly judging you inside my head!! But I was curious to know you more, so I subscribed, and oh!! I wish you know how much you opened my mind, how you made me see the beauty & uniqueness of you & your family even if I have different views in life.. I can feel your warmth and love.. which made me believe in you and in whatever you want to do even if my choices in life are different. And today, I have more respect for people's choices in life thanks to you. By the way, I never comment on videos but I saw few rude comments so I wanted to spread some love 💜

Nicole Vincent It's very hard to understand sarcasm on the Internet. Something said by people can sound playful in real life but can sound rude and hateful online. In my eyes, Andrea Mills is being extremely rude to her viewers. I disagree with anyone that continues to support her childish behavior.

Not Fake 24 Childish? Lmao. So, my parents sometimes sound sarcastic, but it doesn’t mean there childish. By that, some people get offended by your comment because your saying it’s childish, maybe some seven year old sometimes sounds sarcastic, and they may get sad from your comment. Also, keep your rude comments to yourself ok? Have a nice day now.

This is an amazing thing that you did for your children. I have my own room that is about that size and this makes me realize that some people have to put lots of children in 1 room and you did this amazingly for you boys, they are lucky to have a mom like you. I give you so much praise for all of your hard work you put into this, keep being an amazing mom :). Btw I am only 16 but this is still amazing and my parents agree as well :)

Erby, it's strange that you think we should've chosen to have fewer children so that the remaining ones could have more privacy. I'm sure that Judah, Justus, Eden, Solomon, Sophia, Claudia and any future Mills children would vehemently disagree with you. For that matter, I'm sure if you asked our oldest two - Thomas and Asher - if they'd rather have their own rooms than a house full of siblings they'd think you're a sad person for even asking such a thing. If anyone is cruel, it's you who deems 6 children as better off dead than having to share a bedroom.

Let me clear up the most common questions on this video. The beds are the size of half a king sized bed. I'm 15, am 5 foot 10, and I can sit up and lay down just fine. None of us don't want to be together, and if we REALLY need to be alone, the curtains have always been sufficient for privacy. Our room is not that dark, it just looks that way on the video. The audio Bible is great. It's a never ending bedtime story. All of us kids are happy living in this room.

It's like a party at our house everyday. It's so fun! And all of my siblings are amazing, incredible people. My mom is a superhero. Now there are only six people living in my house, so I have my own room. Having a big family is hard though because I don't even really know my oldest brother. Love this concept, honestly the only thing I'd change would be the wall color--I once had my room a dark blue color, not too far off from the one in the video, and whenever we repainted to a lighter color, it made my room seem MUCH bigger! A beige or something would look nice, neutral, and make the room seem bigger. Still a fantastic vid!

I am finding this beautiful family after Andrea's passing. I find them all to be remarkable and so loving to each other. All the material wealth in the world would never have created such character and kindness as I have witnessed as I watch this treasure of their daily life. And their father is such an amazing and talented man. So much love went into the creation of these awesome beds and the creativity and organization throughout the house and in their chosen lifestyle is so evident. The individuality of each child was taken into careful consideration. I bet any visitor to the boy's room would envy that setup. Their mother left a lasting legacy of love through these wonderful videos, and Tom will do the same through his. May God comfort and bring peace to each one.

Once you've seen the crazy prices of real estate, this starts making A LOT more sense. And as for space, you adapt. You don't live in your bedroom, and spend a lot more time outdoors and in common areas. This was very common thinking up until very recently, and still is in large parts of the world.

Oh my...hearing Andrea talking about the extra bunk bed would be for another boy if they ever had one was so terribly sad to me. It really jerked my heart strings knowing that when she left us, she was CARRYING that 6th son who would have been such a joy to Andrea and to the whole family. After the 3 girls in a row. The whole situation is sooo sad, even though Tom is doing an excellent job and the children are flourishing and seem happy. But there are some moments, like the bunk bed comment and also on Christmas with precious Baby Hannah looking at Andrea's pictures and saying Mama. I think about ALL those type of things that Tom hears or observes on a daily basis, and poor guy....How does he DO it??? Yes, they are still a beautiful family, a remarkable family, without Andrea....but that family will NEVER be the same. What a shame. I pray for Tom and each one of those precious children every night. Miss you Andrea 💔

Oh wow Tube trolls they have a lived in look with some paint chips. My guess is your home's are over ridden with things you have not used nor seen in a year or more. Leave this woman alone for providing for her kids and doing it with flair. In the future if the kids taste change the color scheme will grow with them. Good gravy.

Also, I noticed many very hurtful and rude comments concerning how many children you have. I hope you know that you are amazing at being a mother and that these people don't understand from a spiritual point of view how children are so precious and that God has blessed you with them. I cannot believe we live in a world where people actually feel the need to tell you how many children you should and should not have. Shame on them.

It is certainly cramped but I think you've done a good job. Personally I would've used a lighter colour paint to help reflect light around the room (would make it feel a lot bigger), but I understand that one might want to avoid light colours with 5 children in that room! I really like how each child has their own personal space-sure, it would feel more open with standard bunk beds but I think that having an area to call their own is SO important.

E S My best friend shared a room with two of her sisters and a younger brother. She also had another sister that live with her dad most the time but would come visit and stay in that room too. I slept in that room too when I stayed the night There was also an older sister that had one bedroom all to herself. Anyhow my point is is that family is still very close to this day with grand children a great Grandchild and everything. And they still have the same house! lol

My brother in-law grew up with 5 boys in bunks sharing one room. They made up a nice portion of our local high schools football and basketball teams.! They all are successful men in their 40's now with nice families and they love to get together. My brother in-law loves people around and laughter and it's odd for him if there is an empty house or no one to chat with.

ladymama 13 why can't this be a girls version? Random colors and shapes shouldn't affect who can or can't use it. For example, a truck, or rather a picture of one, is literally just a bunch of shapes colored in, but we perceive it as male oriented. But it shouldn't be that way. So why not buy this one?

Our oldest two are 15 and 13. They love their bunks (they fit XL twin mattresses that are the same as sleeping on half a king-size bed.)

I have a whole bed and loft to myself and to be completely honest it feels like I have too much room. Even though that sounds so spoiled I’ve basically been an only child since my sister is like ten years older than me. It gets pretty lonely and I want something cozy.
