We have six children. Our house is ridiculously big. I've actually found that the more children we had the smaller house I wish we had. I'd love to downsize. The bigger the house the more crap you accumulate and the further spread out people become. It's also harder to coordinate the family when people and things are spread out so much. I love your videos. You're very inspiring.

Plus, the bigger the house the more time and money you have to spend on maintenance and cleaning. There definitely are many pros to having a small house.

I grew up in an apartment- 3 bedrooms. I had to share a bedroom with my sister and I remember hating it because there wasn't a lot of space. I wish we could have had the creativity to do some of these things. Normally, I just stored a lot of stuff under my bed. The result of that was that some stuff ended up ruined. Now, in the same co-op where I grew up, my husband and I renovated my grandparents old apartment. I like to think they would like what we've done to it.

Me & my family of 5, me my husband with 3 kiddos, we have a pretty big house for us. It's a 5bdrm 3.5bath. Some days I love it and feel like, oh how do people with more kids and less space do it? Then other days I feel like, geez we have all this room with all this stuff (stuff that's just things we like/wanted not a necessity or anything) and I just think why do we have all this room with all this stuff we don't really need?

You do have less stuff but I think you are definitely doing it right. Teaching children to value experiences and each other, rather than things, will make them much more content and grateful in the long run. If you tried to make your children happy with toys and other belongings...well you would be bankrupt, miserable, and still quite unsuccessful. Because when you cherish stuff and the accumulation of stuff...you are always chasing The More. The New. And accumulators rarely organize well in the long term. But aren't we all just giant children really? and is anyone ever really done with this lesson? We just have different toys. I'm not done with this lesson for sure. Here's one of my stories. I have a job which offers very good paid time off accrual. I earn approx one day off every two weeks so I can take a week off about every three months without draining my PTO bank. Last time I was off was in July, and I spent this past week off as well. Back in July I reached for a shirt out of my closet and a spider crawled out of the sleeve, prompting me to freak out and then dump all the stuff on the floor, and I spent my whole week washing clothes...I lost my fire toward the end and when I went back to work, there was still a large basket of things undone, and the finished laundry was folded and piled in giant stacks on my couch. Fast forward to Sept and this more recent week off...and those piles are STILL ON MY COUCH and I have only rifled through them a handful of times. I haven't worn them, or even missed them in over 2 months. But I have looked at them and wished I could use my couch a few times since then. I have been ungrateful for, and inconvenienced by, all the clutter of a too-large wardrobe. Today I purposed to go through the piles and get rid of most of it, hang the rest, and start wearing it again (I wear uniforms to work, so I'm not just streaking around!!) Today I went shopping the clearance racks, and found plain black tee shirts (my fav thing to wear) for $3.00 each, and I got 3 of them. It was the only thing I went looking for the whole time I was without most of my wardrobe. The rest of my tee shirts are going to the rag bag or Goodwill. So you are onto something lady. I admire you for teaching and role modeling restraint to your kids.

Just remember that kids are amazing if you love them and discipline them right you won't regret never being the poor patient at the nursing home...(don't take to hard!)and if you do choose not to have more i would use NFP(Natural Family Planning)Its just self-control instead of birth-control and won't age your bones, kill child if pregnancy occurs, make your body think its pregnant for more than 9monthes...which heightens the risk of breast cancer...my point? All of my grandparents on my moms side(but the last one)died fighting! And some day your child may do what my little sister (that I practically raised while mom worked who used to call me 'mama' did for me...she gave me a reason to live when death seemed the easy way...

Honestly, this is how many families in smaller countries live: it is not at all uncommon to live in smaller apartments or houses, and for siblings to share a room, I've seen even tinier than this one! And guess what, they all turn out just fine, nobody misses anything, and siblings grow to be close even when adults. Decor on the side, but I never understood the American obsession with big house and big cars, big well, everything!...why does everything need to be so big, and when is it enough? All in all, I think you're doing a great job, and your kids are very happy to have devoted parents like you guys! :)

I also find that when children have lots and lots of toys, they are more apt to not take care of the toys they have because there are so many to play with. Children with few toys tend to take care of and treasure what they have. Andrea I just loved what you said..."People can fit or stuff can fit but a lot of times not both and so I'd rather have the people than the stuff".... well said Andrea!! God bless you and God bless your family.

I shared a bed with my sister for several years and I hated every minute of it. She did too. I don't care what other anecdotal success stories people share. People all over the world where there isn't enough money or room sleep 12 to a room, on a floor that's made of dirt. That doesn't mean I have to. Why so negative? I was merely pointing out something that I thought on the surface seemed unequal. I was not hating on anyone.

I have a great idea for you and for when your girls get older. You should do 1 bunk bed and then 1 twin bed against the wall and then put a big long desk against the other wall to use as a desk and when they get older, a vanity. Then if there is extra space, put a book shelf or a bean bag chair. Lastly, make their room really bright and colorful

I live in an 800 sqft, 2 bedroom apartment and am about to have my third baby (I have a 3 and a half year old girl and 20 month old boy) and I've spent the last 3 months decluttering and moving things around to try and fit everyone. Each time I get a room done it feels so good especially when I didn't think it was possible.

I love that feeling! At one time Tom and I each had our own closet and our own dresser. Eventually we had to combine everything when we needed more space. The day "his" sock and underwear drawer became "our" sock and underwear drawer, he looked at it and said, "I don't know how you put all of your stuff in here and now I have more room. It's amazing." There's such a joy in the creativity of building instead of just having and when you put your own hard work into making things work, you feel so accomplished!

Keep the wall paper it is beautiful! You have some very creative ideas. Some of your ideas remind me of my classroom. 30+ kids live in a one room classroom for each school year. So I dont see a problem with 3 girls sharing a bedroom. When they get older they may want more privacy which can be achieved with room dividers and canopy beds with flowing fabric that can be opened or closed with curtain tie backs

It can be great for 18 years my sister and I have shared a room (we still technically do but she started college this year and lives in a dorm) I have always loved it, even when my brother moved out we could've had one of us move into the other room, instead we converted it into a dressing room. But I will say for the past month I've had my own room and I love it! Don't get me wrong it's great when she stays the night but I enjoy being alone and having all this space for myself.

We are a small family, mum,dad and two boys! Our home is 2bedrooms and a kitchen, small living room and tiny bathroom. No basement. I admire you choosing to live small, it's good for so very many reasons. It's all about lifestyle too, the savings you can make. You are doing a great job I wish more of your commenters 'got it', but never mind! 😊

For me it's me and dad, I have my own room, he has his, we have a living room(small) that goes in to a small kitchen and a hall and laundry room. We also have a big attic and a decent basement. My dad wants me to go into the attic but I don't want to do we would be getting it insulated for no reason lol

I have 4 kids and currently have about 2x that amount of toys.. this is after several drop offs to the goodwill. The toys was taking over and they didn't play with half of it! Just throw and dump the toys everywhere so now that actually play the the toys. I also rotate out the toys they have. Ages range from 16 months to 8 years old. Thank you so much for your videos!

I grew up one of five girls and we lived with our parents in a fairly small home. I shared a room with my 2 sisters through high school and it was fine. My husband and I and our three boys (25, 19 and 8) live now in a 944 Sq ft home and it's just fine too. You do a great job.

I use my Canon PowerShot camera that I already had. At first I used the video editing software that comes with Windows on your computer. (It's called Movie Maker.) Eventually Tom (the technology lover) decided I needed to upgrade so now I use Corel VideoStudioX7. It wasn't an expensive program. I see the newer X9 version is $30 on Amazon. Sometimes I use my iPhone if I'm in a pinch (like my camera battery dies.) I have a couple of extra batteries now, but it still happens once in awhile when I'm out and about.

I like the way your boys' room is set up better than this one. It may be worth it to make a similar construction in this room as you have in the basement. I think girls would have more of a need for some privacy anyway.

Incredible organization. By simply having less Stuff, these parents have more time for their children. And the kids learn important social skills and how to get along with others and share. This is a free country, and people can choose their own life styles. That is what freedom is about.

Molly Doyle they might as the girls get older like 9 or 10 because three nine to twelve year olds in one full bed might result in a cracked rib or two e someone pushing someone off the bed or kicking them in their sleep.

Andrea Mills I understand that's how things are and I see it's doing you and your family well, but as the girls get older and develop, they are going to need their own personal spaces. Not actual rooms, but like you've done for the boys. In a way, I believe it's kinda unfair that the boys have a dedicated room for their spaces but the girls share a bed in room that people often have to go in and out of. I know that they're young and that this isn't permanent but in the future, it would be nice to see the girls have their own spaces as well.

Well she did say that they will eventually have to figure something out. But when you share a room, you eventually get used to it. I shared a room with my sister through most of my way through college since I didn't go away. It was difficult but it was life and what we had. Most of the people I knew shared a room. My friend had shared a room with her brother and sister who are twins so people do what they have to do.

Most people don't have attics that can accommodate that. A lot of attics have low ceilings and pull down ladders are normal. Their system works and those boys are going to be so much more appreciative for what they have when they grow up.

Cierra Irwin If you've grown up in this environment you probably won't feel that way because that's your normal. So for these kids, sharing a room is normal. Having a mini room is normal. Once the oldest moves out, they will find their new normal 😊
