Such a great and powerful movie. Spencer Tracy was fabulous and Mickey Rooney, as usual, gave a brilliant and believable performance in this film. What a talent, they don't make 'em like they used to! R.I.P. Mr. Rooney, we love you so!

I loved Father Flanagan's comment that he didn't believe there was any such thing as a bad boy. How powerful for young people to hear that.

It's a lovely story. I used dream of doing something like that for homeless boys when I came out. Not just because I like boys either. I wanted to do some good. Something that I could be remembered for. - Ronnie Kray.

Listen to the LP/CD Christmas with the Everly brothers with the Boys Town Choir recorded in 1962!
@oliverbrownlow56153 ай бұрын
I've been unable to find a complete discography, but the Boys Town Choir recorded several other albums, as well. Two different albums called CHRISTMAS AT BOYS TOWN. The first (probably earlier) one features only the Choir, while the second features baritone Gordon MacRae with the group. THE BOYS TOWN CHOIR may have been their first album. It contains religious and Christmas music, and also a few secular selections, like the madrigal, "April is In My Mistress' Face," and "The Blue Danube." A different "concert" album with the same title dates from the 1960s, and is said to be a private pressing. It contains religious and classical selections. An album commemorating the group's tour to Japan came out in 1968. This features secular songs in English, many of them Broadway show tunes, but also includes a couple of selections in Japanese. Their Christmas album with the Everly Brothers came out the following year (1969), and seems to be the most enduringly popular if their recordings THE BOYS TOWN CHOIR SINGS AMERICA (1975), the most recent album that I know of, features a very Christmasy-looking snow scene behind the iconic "He Ain't Heavy" image of an older boy carrying a younger one, but the selections are all American popular and folk tunes like "This Land Is Your Land," "Shenandoah," and (not incidentally), "He Ain't Heavy ... He's My Brother." This album was probably intended to capitalize on the American Bicentennial of 1976.

The line seems like a non-sequiter because the trailer omits part of the preceding dialogue, in which Father Flanagan tells Whitey about various things he could do at Boys Town, including farming.

Was the character Lampwick from Pinocchio based on Whitey Marsh? It had to have been. There are too many similarities....
@oliverbrownlow56153 ай бұрын
Lampwick is said to be a self-caricature of Disney animator Fred Moore, who was the chief animator for the character.

The movies and the actors were so great back then. I enjoy all the old movies by to many names to mention. Boys Town came out 24 years before I was born. I have watched it before alone with guys like Cagney, Robinson, Bogart. Their movies were oldies when I was young. I’m 59 now and I have tried to watch those old classics on the many streaming, pay extra, try for 7 days for free, Netflix, Amazon bullshit. All I want to do is see an old movie. I guess an old movie these days is an old Die Hard flick or Rocky. Hell, I guess they are old too. Good movies but not when movies were golden. I’m out.
