I have only been aquatinted with this phenomenon for a few weeks, and still struggle to comprehend how she can be so much at once. She is a pianist in the league of the greatest ever, as is evidenced by her effortless transcendental technique, but also such intelligence, beauty, charm and a polyglot too. I sat right next to Khatia as she was signing CD's in San Francisco. It was a chamber program, in which she was accompanying Renaud Capucon. I can assure she you she was one of the nicest classical musicians I have ever met - no "I'm a star" type of attitude in the least. I was assisting by removing the wrappings and getting the booklets out in advance.

Well, personally speaking I learnt more in one 2 hour lesson with Michel Sogny than in 30 years of various other professors and teachers. His Etudes are quite remarkable, and whilst they sound difficult, are not so hard. That is the sign of a very pianistic composer. Rachmaninov's music for example, is nothing like as difficult as it sounds. He was a pianist first and foremost and his works are designed as a showcase for the pianist, rather than something to battle with, as opposed to let us say, the very great works of Schumann which are much more difficult ( of course Schumann was on another plane altogether to Rachmaninov as a composer) In my brief time with M Sogny I rediscovered the sonority of the sound of the piano and the absolute requisite of cantabile at all times.
