I'm really blown away by the amount and quality of film footage you have. It's such an amazing archive of everyday railway operation the very year before I was born. I love watching it. Thanks 🙏

I remember spotting 73117 (once 'Vivien'), a very close encounter on the platform at Woking while waiting for my train Needless to say I saw many of the Merchant Navys and a majority of the West Country / Battle of Britain class

Really excellently shot footage. Thank you. I grew up in Plymouth amongst SR steam 62-65. Fond memories & in the preservation era maintained & worked engines on the Swanage branch with a lot of ex Bournemouth & West Country footplatemen. Happy days. 😃

Amazing filming and you have matched the sounds very well. I have fond memories of holidays in Fleet in 1961/2 spending most of my days on the platforms.

Fantastic quality colour footage ! Reminds me of my 1950/60's train spotting days, and skiving off school for a day at Clapham Junction ! And us kids shed bashing at Nine Elms, Feltham and Guildford MPD's. Thanks for uploading because they were great days in my life.

I went to School in Guildford and visited the MPD so often the Manager knew my name.

@@MENSA.lady2 Amazing ! I guess you went in via the main entrance then ? Us kids went down on the station platform then creeped in under the bridge ! There were 'live' rails in the yard so we were careful. Loved the old Q1 Austerity locomotives 'Charlies' which were always on shed, and remember the USA tank loco number 30072. Happy Days !

What memories that film brings back, though I lived in Surbiton every year we spent a fortnight at my maternal grandparents in Railway Street, Littleburn, Langley Moor, Co Durham and I got my fill of Q6 and ex WDs not forgetting the the main liners thundering past the miners cottage we stayed in. That was late 1940s early 50s before I went into the RAF in '56.

Most of this will end up at Cashmores of Newport and other South Wales yards where Mr Cashmore will rubbing his hands with glee, ready to fire up the cutting torches and slice these into small pieces of melt scrap.

and Ivatt tank 41312 as well. Cashmores' cutting torches certainly did get through a lot of steam engines (scrap metal is very profitable) but thanks to Dai Woodham for ensuring the survival of so many of them.

@@davidrobinson8700 Dai actually cut 84 steam locos. Mainly GWR types. He loved cutting GWR. There was a lot of extra copper in the fireboxes on those, and he had only bought that weight in steel from BR.

A reminder that in the year of winning the World Cup, Steam locos were turned out in a deplorable state. So sad. Great footage.

The Steam footage on this channel is the best I have seen, better than anything I have bought on DVD. The Southern coaches used to blend with the beautiful greenery of the southern counties, then BR decided to make them all blue and white.

Hello Robert, Thank you for your kind comments. I filmed using a Bolex standard 8 clockwork cine camera mounted on a tripod to produce as steady an image as possible. The film transfer was done to a good standard and the soundtrack was created with recordings I made mostly at the time of filming. Editing was done using Pinnacle Studio software on my PC. A fair bit of work went into this and so comments such as yours makes it more worthwhile. Peter.
@robertcrewdson86114 ай бұрын
@@PeterHutchinson-jc6wv Thank you Peter, you did a great job on the sound as well. The Bolex Standard 8 was very highly thought of. Got a great review in Amateur Cine World.

As a snotty nosed train spotter in 1962 my favourite location was Brookwood, Surrey. No platforms on the up and down fast lines, so no speed limit. The Atlantic Coast Express with a Merchany Navy doing over 100 MPH was a magnificant sight. Sadly BR gave up steam and I gave up trains.
@KevinMorrison-xj2bt2 ай бұрын
Us kids went to Weybridge, and like you watched those great locomotives at speed. They were abused and in terrible condition towards the end in 1966/67 but they just kept of going strong !

As a country boy I was impressed by the superior firm bogie snots which London air generated in about a week. The city had a definite sulphury smell which I liked. A friend called them ‘blooters’.

@@KevinMorrison-xj2btIt's amazing that when I started trainspotting around London in circa 1958, every train was steam hauled. Ten years later they were all gone.
