Thanks so much for the video. I started my new Braava M6 while I was out running some errands this afternoon, and when I got home I discovered it never left the docking room because it got stuck on the threshold. After watching your video, I just created one big threshold over the entire first-floor map, then I tried it again. It just went over two thresholds like they were almost nothing! Woo-hoo!!!

This was the first bot that I fell in love with. Now, if only the S9 was as good as this Bravva mop, my quest to find that perfect vacuum bot would have ended a long time ago. I have the S9 upstairs on thick carpet and at your recommendation a 360 s5 in another carpet area performing well, but I hate having to empty the bin each week on that one. I also have two lydsto R1s that punch way above their price point on hard floors. I have a roborock S7 coming next week to go to work on a large patchwork rug with different carpet grains going weird directions that no robot has masterd yet. After writing all this, I realize I have a robot addiction problem lol.. Keep up the great work, you're the best vacuum reviewer here on YT IMO.

I agree, these are great bots. It's the only bot in my house that I never have to help or rescue, it just does its job and goes home to charge. One minor issue I've had is sometimes it won't start because it thinks the tank hasn't been inserted. Taking the tank back out, wiping up any liquid in the tank area with paper towel, re-inserting the tank seems to clear the error but I'm not sure if that's a placebo.

I purchased a Braava Jet M6 last month to clean with my 6 months old Roomba i8. Thank you so much for the reviews for Roomb and Braava, both are very helpful and informative. I have two questions, hope I could get some insights from you. 1. Today I received an email from Irobot company offering extended 2 years, ($89.99) or 4 years ($129.99) warranty for Braava M6. May I ask if it is worthwhile to purchase a warranty? If it is, which is the better choice between the 2 years vs 4 years? 2. I could not find the concentrated M6 flooring cleaning solution came with my M6, as Irobot replaces it with Bona®Hard-Surface Floor Cleaners. The Amazon users reviews I read are not all positive, most complained about sticky wood floor after they used Bona cleaning with M6. May I ask if you have the same experience? I only have tiles in my house, I am not sure if Bona will cause same sticky problem on tile flooring. Look forward to your response, thank you in advance.

1. I don't think so. It's not a very expensive robot and you will probably replace it eventually. 2. Sorry, I don't have experience with it. I like the Roborock solution, use it in all of my robots.

Thanks for the insight. I’m still having an issue with transitioning. I called the manufacturer and they said my only option is to pick it up and move it from room to room. The problem is I can only run it when my son is at school. He’s autistic and it scares him when it’s on. Unfortunately, manually moving it is not an option.

It just can't cross some floor transitions at all, and can't cross others reliably. If you can still return it, I would. If you have to carry a robot from room to room, the iLife W400/W450 is a better mop and doesn't pretend to be a navigating robot. Well...the W450 kinda does, but it's even less of one than the m6. :)

@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not. iRobot is massively behind in just about every respect. VSLAM navigation is terrible and barely belongs on budget robots, and the m6 can barely cross modest floor dividers and requires constant attention to do its job (changing pads, filling tank). Also, the s9 will scratch your floors.

I really want iRobot to release a M7 where it had at the very least a LiDAR attached to it or a camera but preferably both. Only thing holding me back from getting a mopping robot from iRobot are the aforementioned reasons. I've seen reviews of countless mopping robots and most of them are hybrids... which I don't really want but I am willing to buy due to there being any "good" mopping robot. Most mopping robots I've seen just use a container on the robot itself and use gravity to soak the cloth which I'm not really into. I like this sprayer system and I just want there to be LiDAR and/or a camera mounted option onto it and it will be the perfect mopping robot.
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 2 жыл бұрын
The most handy mopping robot on the market is the Narwal T10. It claims to be a hybrid but I would just toss the vacuum module in the trash and use it as a mop. It's not quite as good as an m6 but it's almost as good, and you can always just tell it to mop a few more times, because it's a LIDAR robot and can cross any reasonable room divider.
@de_stroyed
@de_stroyed 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrRoombato The problem with the Narwal T10 is that it has no water container on the robot. It relies on the base station to soak the 2 cloths on the robot. Reviewers mentioned that the wet cloth starts off really wet and then gets dry. It doesn't matter how many times the base station wets the cloth, if your bedrooms are really far from the base station (as an example) it will barely be wet enough to do an adequate job. The way I see it... the Narwal T10 are for smaller homes where the base station is always relevativly close to the robot, not an 11 bedroom home like mine.
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 2 жыл бұрын
@@de_stroyed The answer is that it will be wet enough, because it goes straight there. Now...it's not perfect. It does sometimes wait too long before going back to "resoak." But honestly every single robot on the market sucks in some way. iRobot has dumb cameras, Ecovacs' auto emtpy bin is garbage, Roborock's new brush housing scratches floors (AND their bin is trash too), and so on. No one gets this stuff completely right. No one. On the day that a perfect product is released, I will throw a huge party. The T10, like I said, is not the best mop. But if you want something to mop your whole house and do a good job, there's nothing else on the market that will do that. T10 or bust.
@de_stroyed
@de_stroyed 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrRoombato Ah, I see. Thank you for informing me on that. If you were to go with a hybrid system and have it as your daily, would you choose the Roborock S6 Max V above all or something else?
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 2 жыл бұрын
@@de_stroyed Something else, because the s6 doesn't have an auto-empty station. I use a Neabot Q11 at the moment. It has some growing pains (it's brand new) but it's the most capable and reliable vac (in terms of navigation and getting scheduled jobs done) that I've ever used. It's also crazy good at avoiding obstacles.

I have a video coming soon where I put the iLife W450, the Braava Jet M6 and the Narwal T10 head to head in mopping challenges. The W450 is the best mop, but also the most difficult to deal with (clean, prepare for use, etc.). Of the two I'd get the iRobot for a balance between ease of use, versatility and mopping performance. If you just want the absolute best robot mop you can get, get the W450 and set it to its slowest travel speed, or get the W400 and make it do three or four passes.
@SubhaBose

@@MrRoombato Thanks a lot for your detailed reply. I want to get w450 but I am worried about it's maintenance and prep time. Waiting for mopping challenge video, in that video it would be great if you can add the pros and cons of them.
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 2 жыл бұрын
Don't wait. I can tell you now (and it may be a while). The W450, when set to its slowest travel speed, 50% water and max brush speed, obliterates the other two in mopping performance. Kills them. No contest. But it has no real navigation, won't stay in the room you put it in unless you trap it or are clever with the cleaning modes and takes the most amount of prep work (it's not like hard or anything, but it is a bit more annoying than the other two). The Narwal is the most convenient and useful. It has lidar navigation, can get everywhere in your house and all you have to do is add fresh water and dump dirty water. It is the worst mop though (but very close to the M6). The M6 is a good mop, not as goo as the W450 and only slightly better than the Narwal, its navigation is good but its mapping sucks (takes a long time to properly map your home) and it is terrible at crossing raised room dividers, so if you have a lot of those, think of it as a one room or one area cleaning solution. It is the easiest to "prep" though, at least in my opinion, particularly if you buy a lot of aftermarket reusable mop pads, swap them out every time it runs out of water and just throw them all in the wash when you run out and start again.

I love and hate this robot right now. Cleans well but the mapping is a real pain. I have areas that make the robo think its a carpet so it's avoiding those rooms when mapping. Is there any ways to get him to map those areas ?
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Put a threshold over any areas you want it to cross or climb. The robot's carpet detection works by detecting tilt angle. So when the robot starts to climb something and tilts as a consequence, the software assumes it's a carpet and stops it. If there is a threshold area in the map over where it's trying to climb, carpet detection is disabled and the robot will attempt to climb over the barrier. It doesn't guarantee it will succeed, but it will try. This video describes this and shows it, in case you wanted to see more about how it works.

@@MrRoombato I tried but still didn't work. I finally forced it to keep trying by blocking him from moving away from this area I wanted him to map. When he got half way over. I gave him a little push to force him into that area. It was the only way to get him to map that area. If you pick him up and bring him there. He gets confused. He has to go on it's own to map sadly. But even with the map the way I want it. he still can't go over those treshold areas. I think like you said in your video. His mop is too slow to the ground to get over on it's own. But at least he can be used in those areas if pick him up and bring him into the room and then press clean and when he's ready to come out, he will send me a message saying he can't find the dock lol Great video but I think they should have put his mop in the back and not the front.

I have a map of 3 rooms which I added the thresholds to, but yesterday on my 11th map it still won't extend our further to other rooms and last night failed with red light by the threshold of the bedroom which is already mapped and marked with threshold. I feel it should be done by now but it's been 11 or 12 map runs and won't go past where it has already and now acting worse like getting stuck in the bedroom.

Since in mapping it made it over a mapped, it hard to tell exactly where the threshold is. It helps to know how it’s doing it. Thanks.

Almost useless. At least in my house. I used to have it just mop the kitchen because it couldn't cross dividers to save its life. But it would often escape and then not be able to make its way back. I hate it. If it can cross your dividers, it's a good budget alternative, but there are much better products out there. If you got the s9 or j7 bundle, I'd honestly return it and get the new Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra or Ecovacs X1 OMNI (I prefer the Roborock) or Dreame W10 if you want to save money. I'm sorry to badmouth something you just bought, but iRobot stuff is extremely outdated and compared to the other stuff on the market, bad. The only thing they still do well is object avoidance on the new j7. In every other respect, they are terrible compared to the competition. I hope you are still in your return window.

@@Rite1010. I'm glad it works for you. But if you're going to buy a new robot at some point, avoid anything with camera based navigation/mapping. I know it's hard to move past iRobot because they are the only US based company and it seems like they are the "industry leader" but...trust me. Check out my Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra video to see what kind of stuff is available now. My first "modern" robot was the i6+ (same as your i8) followed quickly by the s9+. I thought they were awesome and when I saw KZbin videos about the Chinese products I was like, "Pshh...what kind of dumb name is Roborock, and if LIDAR is so great why doesn't iRobot use it!" One year later, and I see iRobot products as overpriced and more importantly, outdated. They are not bad in and of themselves. They are reliable and if they work for you in your house, then they work. The problem is that everyone else is buildings cars and iRobot is still making horse drawn carriages.

I have both the M6 and Braava Jet 240. The 240 does a better job and since it is smaller it gets into tighter places. I use the 240 for mainly bathroom, panty, mudroom and other smaller areas. The M6 runs all the larger areas. However, since the 240 does clean the floor better I do run it once a month everywhere else.

I tried that, it doesn't like it and errors out. I don't know what to tell you, it's not a real navigating mapping robot in my mind. I only use mine to mop the kitchen. @@jihyuenkim9755 I think the Narwal T10 is your best bet as a dedicated mop at this point. The Dreame W10 is a real combo mop-vac, but it vacuums first and you have to empty the dust bin yourself, and I'm guessing you already have a vacuum. Still, if you don't mind it vacuuming ahead of the mop and you having to empty the bin by hand, that would also be a great choice.

I can probably do it in 30 seconds, but then I wouldn't make any money from the video, and 99% of people wouldn't understand it, and then I wouldn't bother making the video, because people respond to specific incentives. If you have beef with the video length, take them to KZbin. I'm just playing the game. The "threshold" is not a button. It's a zone, like a keep-out zone or a clean zone, as described in the video. You set it the same way.
