Finally someone does a proper explanation of toe and healing and WHY its needed!
@steves146011 ай бұрын
Have looked at a number of videos on toe and heel, with most being as instructive as remove bead and straighten door!! I mean, like, seriously! This is a brief and excellent video on, not only how to do it, but also the theory behind it which makes it all the more memorable. Also well presented. Well done OP!

Just bought a second hand door and frame from a window fitter. He said, it's already been toe and heeled, you know what that is right? My head nodded but my brain said, no you don't. Well I do now! Thank you!

Good video but I'll be dammed if I understand how the frame moves and how toe and heeling works. How can you tell the difference between a frame/hinge that needs adjusting and a toe and heeling problem?

Hi there. My window in my house is not closing correctly ,it's a side hung window now on the lock side it's fine but on the opposite end it has about 4mm gap now I have recently changed the hinges as the gap was alot worse before this . Now my question is have I done something wrong when put the new hinges on or is there an adjustment screw I need to alter to bring that side in. Thanks you hopefully you can get back to me as soon as you can .

You make it all look so easy,yet another talent in the Harrybrew69 toolbox. I've seen a lot of windows like this out of whack now I know why,too many houses built by cowboys in the last decade here post recession all showing faults like this now as well as pvc doors out of plumb. The handles on inside of those windows also tend to get hard to close and get very loose with age,how do you fix that? Anyway m8 hope all is well with ye,can't wait to see the next HB vlog,I know you've been chasing your tail of late. Cheers.

Hi Harry, firstly many thanks for the video, really interesting and helpful. Can I ask is this something that also needs to be done to "Top Hung" UPVC window? Mine have gone terribly out of line and will no longer shut at all! I think it is down to our house moving in the warm weather, but was wondering what is the best solution to fix it. Best Jim
@harrybrew692 жыл бұрын
You can do it to top hung sashes to prevent lateral movement yes.

@@harrybrew69 Hi Harry thank you so much for your swift reply. I only wish you were able to come and fix my windows for me, as I think it is a job a little too tricky for me. Hi Harry. I've got a window like this that I can see light through on the vertical hinge side near the top. Is that heel and toe issue or just an adjustment i can make to the sliders. Seems to me the window edge doesn't go far enough over to quite reach the seal. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
@CycloneCyd3 жыл бұрын
I understood the weight transfer principle, but didn't know it was called heel & toe. Well, one favour deserves another, so here's a tip for you: when you make the little blue trabs for pulling the tape off, do it at both ends❗ Then, when (not if) it breaks halfway, just start again from the other end. Simples.

Plastic glazing shovel, and not metal scraper to pack glass, or you'll shell glass, and may crack.

I got all excited when you showed the issue was exactly the same as my issue (daughters room has a draft from a poorly sealing opener) then was gutted as I'm not going to be able to get up a ladder to man handle the glass out of a second storey window on my own....
@sammason94203 жыл бұрын
Bad idea having the glazing beeds external. Just take them off and the glass out to break in. Should be all internal.
@harrybrew693 жыл бұрын
You can't get the glass out without access to cut the security tape on the inside. I do, however, dislike externally glazed windows as they are a pain to glaze on anything other than the ground floor.

I have a really annoying bay window that is all out of square and has a similar problem, unfortunately it's not something that can be easily fixed like this. Nice tips though =). And yeah, why can't some tradesman run a bead cleanly? It's not rocket science.
@bernie129locksmith2 жыл бұрын
or do it the way the pros do - take all the tape off the double sided ,spray it with glass cleaner so it doesnt stick ,glass in - toe and heel - beads in - cleaner evaporates and glass is stuck - bingo
@theweirdthewonderfulandram34594 жыл бұрын
He probably toe and heeled it other way cause the opener was to high when installed
@dtwistrewind73612 жыл бұрын
I hate to worry you but you have what are known as burglar windows, your house insurance will be invalid if you have to make a claim, the window capping should always be on the internal face. I haven't seen these for years but I do know if you forget your keys you can get in with no damage, please for the safety of the family fit some new ones yourself, you will do a much better job then the trades did.
@harrybrew692 жыл бұрын
Nonsense, these have security tape, Impossible to get the glass out without access to the inside.
