Not sure if it’s just different in Aus, but snaking for us is when you paddle around someone to get on their inside thus making it seem like you have priority, what you described is what we call a “drop in” or “getting burnt”, that and we always use Shakkers lol, loved the vid tho!
@waltysalamander2 жыл бұрын
We call that “back paddling”
@ScottLaffin2 жыл бұрын
"Snaked" can be used those same ways here in California too, but it generally means anytime someone without priority goes on a wave and messes up the ride of the person with priority.

He should of used burned, I know snaking as back paddling
@danamcalister2 жыл бұрын
In California someone dropping in on you is snaking you and the other one is someone paddling around you but back paddling understood.

Loved this video! Some terms for future videos off the top of my head: shredding gnar, throwing the fins out the back, shampoo barrels, firing/nuking, getting washing machined, getting chandeliered, carving, a sesh, dawn patrol, weekend warriors, foamie, sponger, dinging the board, shred stick, and quiver
@danamcalister2 жыл бұрын
Hey Brad, the footage you used for "reforms" were more like "double ups" a true reform is a wave you ride and then rolls over a deep spot and totally "backs off" (another great term) and then breaks again, and a lot of times guys use the "Huntington Hop" to connect the outside break to the inside reform. So maybe clarify in the next one and show more double ups and then some true reforms as well. Great vid tho!!! Keep'em coming.

Some lingo we use down under………Vizh, (pronounced “viz-sh’, the view from a barrel) sick, (as in “excellent), kook soup, (crowded lineup on a small day) off the roof (ejecting from a super late drop on overhead+ waves), feta’s (massive oncoming set feathering way out back) taxi (last wave of the day preferably all the way in to the beach).

Thanks for making these type videos. Total nube here so it's quite informative. Caught my 1st wave today during my 2nd day of surfing... using an 8f board in 6 foot storm waves..caught a board in my face... great sport... I am all stoked. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. You got yourself another sub.

Lol Brad went there with the classic clips (Eastbound and Down, Office Space) A-Frame (Trestles) Sloops: When the waves aren't that great but you catch a few rideable ones. Ostrich: When you don't pop up quick enough and go head 1st, similar to putting your head in the sand

For your next video I would recommend differentiating between snaking and hopping. If it’s my priority and you’re behind me you’re snaking, if you’re in front of me you’re hopping.
@krusher74 Жыл бұрын
its dropping (as in dropping in) not hopping as in shoulder hopping.
@odin4life Жыл бұрын
@@krusher74 true, but from a long boarder's perspective, I'm rarely on a wave that you need to drop in on. Most of the time its beginners that are hopping the shoulder.... and then going straight 😭

Is it bad that i claimed when i made my first proper wave. To everyone else i did nothing but to me it was the first time i made it past a section, did a floater and rode a wave to the point it ended. I was so buzzed when it happens i did a little fist bump ahaha

Snaking is when someone back paddles and takes priority over the person who was next in line. It's called dropping in when you are already up and riding and someone decides to get in front of you.

I called over the falls getting Whomped....well I boogieboard. maybe I use a different term since I boogie. But I've been Whomped before where you pretty much get thrown and slammed onto the sandy shore. You know where you walk out with those bloody knees??
