That's me with Puddle of Mudd. I knew Puddle of Mudd before they were like famous long before they were famous probably a couple years and Wes scantlin and I stayed friends his entire time being famous. I still have his phone number in my phone and call him like once every six months or so. Just to check in you know make sure everything's going okay. I dated his best friend in high school who was significantly older than I was at the time I was like 16 or 17 maybe and his best friend was like 30 I think. Something like that somewhere in that range. Which sounds super creepy and now it certainly is super creepy but at the time I was like sold he was a rocker and that was like something for me that was like a big deal because I was 16 and 17 and didn't have any rocker buddies so yeah despite the fact that the he was 12 or 13 or 14 years older than me I had a huge relationship with him that lasted like a year-and-a-half. Upside is I got to meet Wes scantlin and he and I are still friends so that's saying something. But God forbid if I ever had kids I would never let my sixteen-year-old even dare to dream about dating a 30 or 31 year-old ew ew ew LMAO

Sublime is from Long Beach, California. The band was three members: Bradley Nowell (vocals, guitar), Bud Gaugh (drums), and Eric Wilson (bass guitar) there music is mix of reggae and dub, Ska, punk, progressive rock, acoustic rock, hip-hop. On May 25, 1996, two months before Sublime released their self-titled third album, Brad Nowell just got out of a record company sponsored rehab, died of a heroin overdose after a show in Petaluma, California.

Ska - it's pronounced skah. One word. It stems from a blend of reggae, rock, and sometimes punk. A lot of Ska bands are a little more upbeat in feel - there's often horns. Sublime is unique in that their mainstream stuff tends to also have a hip hop element. But they started as more of a punk band. Ska is something that some bands easily fit into, like when you hear it you go oh that's Ska. But some are sort of on the outskirts of it, like sublime.
@patrickcraig80223 жыл бұрын
Ska is actually an earlier genre than reggae, and was Jamaican musicians mixing the r&b and doo-wop and American soul they were hearing with mento and Jamaican music. Rock-steady, lover’s rock, reggae and dub then evolved out of ska.

This song borrows from "Summertime" from a popular 1930s musical called Porgy & Bess. Also, the song is actually about something more than just a bad relationship his girl -- they had originally replaced the word "Summertime" with "Doin' Time," hence the title. However, the copyright owners of the original version withheld their permission to use the song until they changed it back to "Summertime."
