Interestingly enough, that’s how Marilyn Manson and the band’s members came up with their names, a “beautiful people” celebrity paired with a vile, killer type: Marilyn Monroe + Charles Manson = Marilyn Manson, (other members from the era of the band: Twiggy Ramirez, Daisy Berkowitz, Ginger Fish, & Madonna Wayne Gacy.) So, the killer comparison is quite apt. So, Marilyn Manson isn’t any kind of -core. But, to Lex’s question, I will just point out that at the time of that album’s release Marilyn Manson opened for Nine Inch Nails as they toured on The Downward Spiral. Anyway, if you want to check out another original/cover pairing, “I Put A Spell On You,” is also on this album, and the original is by one of the most incredible performers in American history, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins.
@katayfa3 жыл бұрын

I can't believe that you didn't do Nine Inch Nails this stream. Trent is the one that made MM "Portrait of an American Family" a great album. I have seen MM in small clubs in '94 then Trent took him out of his trailer in FL to tour clubs then arenas around the country that year. I even won the costume contest on Halloween at the MM show in '96 as track 15 on his "Smells Like Children" EP. Got to hang out with the band and had them all sign my dope bag. It wasn't until he did The Night of Nothing that was an event for Trent Reznor and his label that was b4 MM 2nd album release and the place was packed with talent. Dr Dre to Anthony Kiedis were there bc it was the night after the VMAs in NYC and only 200 fans were allowed in. I was into MM and excited to hear new songs from his Antichrist album but he took the stage and he sounded like trash so he went to his usual bag of tricks and blamed the drummer. He flung the mic stand at him and split his head open then walked off stage. I thought it was part of the show until the drummer sprawled out over the kit and the ambulance came. It was a really big let down and I didn't feel the same about MM after that show. I had great times with them but it was the straw... Nine Inch Nails took the stage after and invited members of 'Prick' then 'PWEI' for songs of theirs and Richard Patrick joined for a culmination of "Head Like a Hole" with everyone on stage, minus MM. That started a Rift between the two and it was definitely apparent in his sound with out Trent's production. You have to hear "Reptile" or "Eraser" from NIN for dark or "The Becoming" or "Somewhat Damaged" for lighter.
