Early RHCP was awesome. Then they had a hit with Under the Bridge and decided slow songs and songs about California were their future, turning them into the Lukewarm Bell Peppers. I won't call it a sellout because they still kept a lot of their weirdness, but the sheer funkiness and energy in their music was definitely lacking in the 90s on.

@@patron40silver Are you kidding me!? Yeah they got older and more mellow, but this album was released in 1991, you're sayin' they haven't had a good song since? I'm not a fan of the more mellow stuff either, but for one, you have to realize this album blood/sgr/sex/magik is the pinnacle of their career, it's probably one of the most solid CD's all times, 17 tracks, and almost every one could have been a single. Since then those they had some great songs, Scar Tissue, Other Side, Aeroplane, and I friggin love Dark Necessities. I mean if you don't like anything after this album, fair enough, but I don't think it's fair to say they never put out another song worth listening to.

I saw this title and I was thinking holy crap, Brad's head is going to explode or short circuit!!!! RHCP is a great example for your guys that every song doesn't have to have a deep meaning, or can even be gibberish. Not that the Peppers don't have deep songs, or that this one's gibberish, but sometimes the band might have a great jam musically already, and Anthony (singer) will just come up with something random or funny, and just kind of write lyrics that sound great, but might not necessarily have specific meaning or about a specific story.
@DjDMA3 жыл бұрын
Some of the great songs in music history had their lyrics written right in the studio at the recording session. The band has the music, the structure, the melody, and they write whatever comes up to their minds a few minutes before the singer starts singing. I still haven't seen it but I think the movie Get Back of The Beatles (which was just released) is one of the many examples of this, that is already showed in a ton of rock documentaries. I have a vague memory of seeing Freddie Mercury writing a song right in front of the mic.
@sunshynff3 жыл бұрын
@@DjDMA..Exactly! Have any of the shows you've seen talk about how Dear Prudence was written? They were in India on vacation, this was during the bands shift from straight laced 50s quartet band to the Sargent Peppers Beatles people I came to love even more. Mia Farrow was good friends with the band and was along for the trip with her sister Prudence. They were there partly to spend time with the Maharishi Yogi to learn transcendental meditation. They also did some LSD on the trip, i'm not sure if that was part of the whole Yogi open your mind thing or them just partying, but Prudence had a bad trip one night, and after that threw herself big time into the meditation she had learned. So much so she locked herself in her room got in a deep meditation and would not come out. She got along the best with John and George so those two sat outside her door for hours trying to talk her into coming out. Finally John went and got his guitar and started just fumbling around some notes in a new style of picking he had recently learned, and within about 20min came up with a basic version of what we now know as Dear Prudence. Him and George sang it to her and it touched her so much she came out of the room. After their trip they recorded the song for the White album.

You are Benjamin Button.... you are introduced to an artist's current material, and then go back into their catalog. So you are not experiencing their progression in the natural order. It's an interesting perspective, It can also be very exciting when you find a group you really like, then realize they have a multitude of material, already out there. I remember experiencing that with the Scorpions and AC/DC as a kid. .AC/DC Highway to Hell was my first listen.... then realized they had 5 albums released prior, with all this great material Instead of waiting a year for the next album, you could go get a new album once a month and play it out. Scorpions the same way.... Blackout was my first introduction. Then realized they released 7 albums prior, some with a very different sound (Uli Roth era). A current band like that is Kings of Leon..... discovered them on their 4th album. Then went back into their catalog and witnessed their maturation in reverse. Loved the earlier stuff. Viewing the reaction videos is interesting in its own way. We are watching you experience a song for the first time, and I think it brings us back to the first time we heard it. Your reactions seem genuine, which I appreciate...and the reason I keep coming back to see what is new on the playlist. Cheers!
