@ROArecords2

Her descriptions are always amazing and hilarious. It's like talking to a hippy girl. I don't even know how to contextualize what she means. Maybe a shrimp cocktail is extravagant?, and a casino is loud and larger than life?, and the lemon is a sourness or bitterness to the tone? I assume his comment about the south was about the bluesy style to the guitars.

The production of this album changed the way that music is prouduced forever. This song in particular is so technically done it is mind-blowing. First off it's in 7/4 time - which is rarely done and incredibly difficult (aka pain in the ass). This is also before sampling, so all the noises at the beginning and even the gentleman speaking at the end (who just happens to be the janitor telling a story about his wife) were all done in real-time at the studio. Real people dropped coins and worked cash registers rythymically to get the effect. Another great song on the album has a bunch of alarm clocks going off at the same time - and all of those clocks were actual clocks in the studio that they'd set to go off simultaneously. If you ever ever consider listening to the entire album at once (43 min) I think many of us would listen and watch - it will change your life 🥰

A lot of songs have beat switches, but usually the time signature remains similar and just change percussion and flow. This song literally changes time for the solo, from seven beat measures to four, then back for the lyrics at the end. Difficult and underrated expert switch without losing the groove of the overall composition. And it ROCKS!! ❤🎸🔥

The sound effects at the start was Roger Waters in his back yard, throwing coins into a metal mixing bowl, tore paper, cash register ding, coins etc, 7 sounds total all recorded. They took those 7 pieces of recorded tape and splices them all together into a loop, going thru a tape player. The other end of the tape was pulled tight and wrapped around a mic stand. 7 sounds made for a crazy 7/8 time signature so dancing to this was a tough groove!

The voices speaking at the end as the song fades out are actually those of Paul and Linda McCartney as well as Wings guitarist Henry McCullough. How they got the voices was actually quite ingenious. Both bands were recording at Abbey Road studios. Roger Waters invited them to do the voices and sat down and interviewed each member with a series of questions on cards. He started off with easy questions to get the ball rolling. The responses you hear are answers to 2 specific questions: "when was the last time you were violent?" and "Where you in the right?"

I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know, and I know all the great ones.

Change jingles, cash fans, money drawer opens, Lex : "YES !!" When Lex said the bass line was creepy, reminded me of when, in the Wizard of Oz, if you play DSOM along the way you time them up, then during the guitar solo, when rhe bass is mostly playing alone, the Mayor of Munchkin land comes strutting by the camera in this creepy strut.... funny . FYI: if you ever wanna try it... put DSOTM in put on continuous play so it automatically starts over so it makes it thru the whole movie. Put movie in... start movie, wait til the MGM lion [ the old, black and white one, not any animated ones added into the intros ] roars, immediately as soon as the third roar ends, push play on the album, you'll know pretty soon if your timing was off, the movie and album synch up perfectly, footsteps, scenes, etc. If you wanna try to adjust for it. A lot of people say it's nonsense, that it's just a couple coincidences, but back when it became widely known, i really got into it, there are a whole lot of " coincidences" i can point out that are obvious, and i probably missed some

@@If6turnsouttobe9 Nah I love the mystical feel about starting your turntable at the lion's 3rd roar. That word-of-mouth rumor feel about the whole thing is a cool relic of the pre-internet era, and I applaud you keeping the lore alive. But as for getting more people to see it, youtube is the way

I love the way your expressions change as the song progresses. Brad, you absolutely lit up at the beginning when the "created beats" were playing with the cash machines. Then during the instrumental section (sax solo and then guitar solo) Lex was absolutely feeling it. You mentioned it sounded like the song cut off abruptly. This song is from "Dark Side of the Moon," which should really be played through in its entirety, as every song bleeds and blends from one song into the next, and the end of the album mirrors the beginning, so it could really be played on a continuous loop and the music would never stop. The song "Time" that Brad mentioned is on that same album, and the ticking clocks actually fade in from the fading out of the previous song, and the piano at the end of "Time" leads into "Great Gig in the Sky." Lex--you are absolutely correct about the Pink Floyd concert experience. It is a treat for all of your senses. Your ears luxuriate in the powerful and yet subtle and intricate sounds of the music; your eyes are dazzled by the video, lasers, and pyrotechnic and practical effects; your body feels the powerful vibrations of the music as well as hearing it; and you smell what everyone around you is smoking during the show. I suppose if you are into edibles or if you are with a girl that is wearing flavored lip gloss, you could add taste to those sensations as well! You've already listened to the album version of "Comfortably Numb;" to get a sense of what the concert is like, I would recommend the 1994 Pulse concert version of that song to see it performed live. Traditionally, that is the last song they play before any encores.

That was a genuine sax you heard. You'll hear it again in Us and Them, from the same album. I went to a Pink Floyd concert back in...the early 90s, maybe '92 or '93? It was a great show and was held in an outdoor stadium and I'm guessing 50,000 people were there. They had speaker stacks set up all over the stadium so it was a true surround sound experience. They sounded so good, just like an album, very clear. And of course the big laser light show that went with it. There was no violence or threats of violence that I was aware of. I've been to many rock concerts and other live music and have never seen fights or felt threatened, so if such things happen I'd say it's an exception. Most people at rock or metal concerts are welcoming and tolerant of others since they tend to be marginalized or misunderstood themselves.

I’ve been waiting forever for another Pink Floyd song. Btw their album dark side of the moon, which the song money comes from, is the 4th most bought album of all time, not just in its genre. Pink Floyd is a very special band and all their songs sound so unique. If you do plan on listening to more Pink Floyd in the future I DEFINITELY recommend Shine On You Crazy Diamond. That song is out of this world. Definitely should have it in your reaction to-do list

The TIME SONG beginning is clever, as it starts with the beating of a clock--the passing of time--and then overplays it with the beating of the human heart--the clock of life ticking down, and that is why the tempo of the song at the end gets very slow.
