In 1977, Zepplin was on tour when Robert got a call that his son, Karac had died from a stomach illness. The band quit the tour and took two years off. The song is about Robert, his son, and wife. He's worried that he may "fall out of love ... to chase a feather (his son) in the wind." This loss has caused his love or "the flame to dim." He's worried about whether or not it "is to end or begin." HIs wife is the cloth, his is the "hand that sews time," and Karac "is the force that lies within.' The "cloak of delight" is their love. He desperately misses his son but doesn't want that to destroy his love with his wife. Yes, Lex, a beautiful song, indeed.

The death of Karac led directly to Robert taking a break from the band. But with his buddy's absence and the grief that overwhelmed the entire band, Bonzo's drinking spiked. And in Sept 1980, John Bonham died in his sleep after drinking 2 fifths of vodka from choking on his vomit. The band broke up shortly thereafter and a couple years later, Robert's marriage ended. This song really was the watershed of the band's innocence and the album it appeared on was released on Aug 15, 1979, about a year before John's death. When Robert was asked about Bonzo's death on the Stern show, he said that he and Bonzo saw each other almost all the time at the pub, living in the same town and so you can imagine what kind of impact it would have on a best friend to watch your mate's life falling apart. The youtube channel @ProfessorofRock did an entire breakdown of this song and it's significance titled "70s Rock Classic Was HATED by Critics & Divided Fans but SAVED the Iconic Singer" and it's totally worth the listen (even if the Prof is nearly in tears on a few different occasions).

indeed, he was... this album would have never been released otherwise. jimmy page and john Bonham were in a dark place and Robert was mourning the loss of his son. most of the album was recorded in bit and pieces, the band wasn't together for much of the recording. then john bonham a year later.

The key lines are "to you child" and "I get a little bit lonely". When you hear this song without understanding why it was written you don't catch the full meaning of those lines. His son Karac died in 1977 and his son Logan was born in 1979. "Plant said that the song “All My Love,” which he wrote about Karac after his death, “was just paying tribute to the joy that he gave us as a family and, in a crazy way, still does occasionally.” “His mother and I often… the memory gets … changes, the contrast and the focus changes as time goes on. It’s a long time ago that we lost him. 40 years ago.” “And we were blessed with another boy who came along about two years later and the two images are blurred. The definition between Karac and Logan is … it’s a tough one to chip through the two things but he was a little nature boy, you know? He was a mountain man.”

My daughter passed away when she was 22, she was a beautiful person and we had so much fun together. She was always open to listen to my “old people music” I’ll never forget we were in the car listening to this song, and I said oh this part is cool… and that horn sounding synth solo came in and she LAUGHED!! I think she was expecting some major lead guitar solo and it just struck her as hilarious to hear that sound instead! But we sat and laughed and it’s such a good memory for me. She otherwise really loved the song, and I of course had already loved it for many years. I’m really happy and excited for you guys!

I started with appreciating Lex, but I believe I've seen so many scenarios now, that and watching some of their vlogs, that I truly appreciate the couple now. If you took either one away, the reactions would not be as good/complete. They're the perfect right brain, left brain duo and attractive as people. I would never want to see either of them react solo. They're too good together. If they ever move on from music, I hope they get into movie reactions.

So you've finally hit on my wife's and mine song, and that will score you a subscribe. Now if you'll allow me to indulge myself with the story of how this came to be our song: When we were teenagers, having dated for a few months, the youth group at my wife's church decided to have a Valentine's Day dance (1983). My friend, Steve (who also was in the church youth group) supplied the sound system (which was just his stereo with turntable) and they recruited me to play DJ. Now mind you, this was in 1983 and I was 15, so being a DJ with Steve's bedroom stereo set-up was not what you would call a professional DJ set up. I remember this one kid kept demanding I play Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran (and I eventually did, just to get him to shut up.) I had brought all my records, including Zeppelin's In Through the Out Door, and at one point, I told Steve to cover for me, slipped on the record and started paying All My Love. The crowd just stopped and stared at me. What was this, they seemed to ask? They only knew the radio pop (new wave) stuff of the day. I grabbed my girlfriend (now my wife of 37 years) and we began to slow dance to it. Others joined in, and when the song started to go upbeat a bit, they looked at us as we continued to slowly sway together and they weren't sure how to dance to it, but they followed our lead and just kept slow dancing. When the song ended, I said "That's our song from now on." And then I went back to playing the crap music everyone wanted to hear for the remainder of the night. Fun times.

Every time I hear this song, I hear his pain. Though truly tragic and devastating for such a loss and he wasn’t even at home when tragedy occurred, I also feel his deep love for his beautiful boy! His son had Robert’s thick gorgeous locks of curls. Just heartbreaking!!

What I love about your guys's reaction and Lex yeah, you're so observant and understanding things just instinctually, but you know the reality is I never knew this was about him losing the Sun at all when I was growing up buying these albums and listening to them in real time. I didn't know that. I just knew that this was the last album because then John Bonham died and that was it. And I used to not listen to the sound as much cuz I thought it was so pop compared to their earlier really hardcore stuff or super trippy stuff. But in the last 10 years I've come to appreciate this album as a musician anyway, so much. This is them firing on all cylinders and rolling with the times I mean come on. Who knows what would have happened if they kept on rolling. So it's cool that you can feel the emotion and empathy and all that in it even before knowing what the true subject matter is. Cuz that's the way it was for me and I was around at the time when they released this album and I went down to the record store in high school and bought it you know?

I am a major Zep nerd. Bonham was very deep into alcoholism, lost for days drunk, during these recording sessions. Page held up in his castle strung out on heroin. This left Plant and Jones in the studio to compose, arrange, and record. This song is composed, arranged, and primarily played by Jones. Plant wrote and sang, a love song to his recently departed son. Plant cleaned up, stone sober, when his son died. His son is the feather in the wind. The feather is the symbol for Plant on the fourth album.

So when this album came out in 1979, Page was in the throes of heroin addiction and Bonham was drinking heavily, meaning most of the song writing was done by Plant and Jones and therefore a little less complex or layered or hard sounding. Musically it sounds a lot like what Plant would record when he released his first official solo album Pictures At Eleven in 1982 which i hope you continue exploring, because it is an impressive catalog in its own right.

I would love to have seen where LZ could've gone after ITTOD. Jones was always contributing more than he was usually given credit for. So while Jimmy was, shall we say "letting things interfere with his usual total dedication to music", perhaps he may have decided to get healthy again (instead of waiting until 1983-84) sooner and the band may very well have continued to explore new areas. Oh well, what's done is done but it certainly feels like they had more to say, so I guess that's our loss.

All My Love" is the sixth song on Led Zeppelin's 1979 album In Through the Out Door. Credited to Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, it is a rock ballad that features a synthesizer solo by Jones. It was written in honor of Plant's son Karac, who died while Led Zeppelin were on their 1977 North American tour.

Lex had an eargasm listening to this one, BRAVO! This was their last album and was just so great! Hot Dog is fun, almost country, FOOL IN THE RAIN was a huge hit! In the evening is the first song and a BANGER! Fine choice you two!!!

Not knowing the background of the song, I could see why Lex thought the song was about the dangers of falling in love. And most who don’t know a lot about LZ, would probably get the same vibe. But is was about the lose of his son at 5 years of age, all the pain and confusion of losing a child. It also was about how it affected his relationship with his wife, as it had a big affect on their relationship. That is what the reference to his wife “being the cloth” and his “hand that sews time” meaning they together have made the life they have, and their son “is the force that lies within”. Now his soul is a “feather in the wind”. Plant was hurting from the lose of his son, but also the distance that had come between him and his wife. And Lex is right about the dark feeling, you can hear the pain in Robert Plant’s voice as he sings. Such a powerful song, one of LZ bests too.

This was one of Led Zeppelin's later albums. They had many hits before this song and this is the second album I bought of theirs at the time. I eventually ended up buying all their albums except for their best and their greatest hits because I ended up creating my own greatest hits.

Lex really gets them. Yes, this song is about parental love, and the loss of Robert's son. Taken off their last studio album before John Bonham died. Another great track from that album is "I'm Gonna Crawl "

Oh yes that’s right somebody else services father but it was his son I remember that Wayback when thank you for the information… Losing a child is I was in group therapy for a while and therapist said losing a child is one of the worst sufferings that can exist if you lose a wife or mother or father ain’t so bad but losing a child it’s just very difficult I can understand that too I have three children

July 1977, his son Karac died at the age of five while Plant was engaged on Led Zeppelin's concert tour of the United States. Plant retreated to his home in the Midlands of England and, for months afterward, questioned his future.

I just want to say "Congrats" on your awesome news. Robert Plant lost his son and Zeppelin took 18 months off as Plant recovered. When they resumed, Plant wrote this song for his diseased son. Page thought it was too soft (for Zeppelin) but decided to just go along with it out respect. Lex said it was "Sad and beautiful" and she was right. It's an Ode to his son. In a year or less, you will know just how powerful it is. I wish you three all the best !!!!!!!!!!!

You guys do know that you are part of many thousands of new families? Right? Y'all are laid back cool folk whose love for music is magnetic. This mutual love of music is a bonding element, for sure, but what is more attractive is your welcoming demeanor. You two show respect for all people. Lex' exuberance is a kick in the pants, bringing out the occasional smile and even a guffaw from Brad, who is more contemplative. Lex is full of insight, though -- hitting the nail on the head frequently with her insightful takes on the song lyrics. It is pretty trippy the impact these Reaction Videos Channels and their hosts have had on society. And it's very positive, needless to say. I guess I am just trying to say -- very nice to meet you, Brad and Lex .

This was the last Led Zep recorded in the studio together before John Bonham their drummer died a few months later. This album showed how much they had changed after the death of The singer Robert Plant's son also died a few years before this album. They were merging into something very different. After their drummer died, John Lennon from the Beatles was killed less than three months later. Led Zep ended the band that year with only a few reunions since then as Led Zeppelin

"Fool In The Rain" on the same album, which you've reacted to, is a really good one. Bonham plays the drums in (two different) polyrhythms in 4/4 time and its just amazing when paired to the, different, 12/8 rhythm of the piano and vocals.
