I love Lex's reaction! I've always felt like this album didn't get the love it deserves. They went from alternative/hard rock to goth electronic rock and it was everything my teenage goth self ever wanted. Some of the songs on Mellon Collie hinted at this goth vibe. This album divided fans. Some of them couldn't digest the new electronic sound they were experimenting with. Pug is another great song from this album, although I personally love all of them. Also the song "Eye" from the Lost Highway soundtrack is another fun goth-y pumpkins song. As a side note, I love that you guys are watching the videos now. I feel like it really helps with the interpretation of the music and storytelling with some songs.

Funny, I just listened to this album about five hours ago - about the same time you posted this video. They released it early June of 1998. Their fourth studio album, they had no official drummer for this one so they reverted to programming drum machines (this was their routine from back in the very early days of the band, before they recruited Jimmy Chaimberlain) and so the album had a very 'electronica' feel to it. It's a very different album to the ones that went before it - they always progressed things musically with every album release - but this one had a unique beauty all it's own. Last one of the 90's too, very much THE decade of The Smashing Pumpkins.

This is one of my favorite Smashing Pumpkins songs, and it’s mainly because of the video. It was directed by Billy Corgan’s girlfriend at the time and the design, artistry, and just everything is so cool and interesting to me. And I’m a weirdo in that I was really into Billy’s creepy Nosferatu era. 😊 This song is about possessive, destructive obsession with someone so I feel like his persona in the video fits. They are one of my all time favorite bands and I highly recommend anything from them. Side note: Billy has talked about the shooting of this video and how they went through the whole thing around 17 times before finally getting this take. Since it’s one single shot, there are no edits. If anyone in any of the scenes missed their cue or messed up in any way they’d have to start over from the beginning.

Well, it's a love song, but not from a healthy perspective. I mean; "the mother of my child, and a child to my heart" doesn't exactly sound like an equal relationship. It's obsessive and possessive. It's not "I would hate to lose you", but "we must never be apart". Billy Corgan liked writing this kind'a stuff, like the track Lily (My One and Only), a song from the perspective of a stalker.
