The classical piece with the chord progression Lex is referring to is Johann Pachelbel's Cannon in D. Very keen ear Lex, you will literally hear this chord progressions influence all across every musical genre including from artists such Oasis, Beatles, The Pet Shop Boys, Kylie Minogue, Green Day, Coolio...the list goes on.

Thanks so much for that insightful knowledge. I knew the song Because by the Beatles is an unjumbling of a famous classical piece which Yoko was playing at the time during recording sessions. I am sure there are just countless others too that artists don't have to worry about legal suits. With the way Lex, pointed out the chord progression - that's possibly why I am drawn into the song subsconsciously then the lyrics and instrumentation.

Holy shit, Lex's natural ear for music is insanely impressive. As others have pointed out, the specific piece of music clearly influencing this is Pachelbel's Canon, the greatest hook ever written, freely plundered by hundreds of rock, pop, and even hip hop songs. What's crazy is I have loved this song since I was a teenager, 1,000 years ago, and even being a fan of spotting Pachelbel's Canon in popular music, I never realized this song was doing it until I saw Lex point it out JUST NOW.

@jonharper8963
@jonharper8963 2 жыл бұрын
@@savsmiles3042 may 2017 an Islamist extremist detonated a bomb at the Manchester arena during an Ariana Grande concert. He killed 22 people, the youngest was 8 and hundreds of children and teenagers were injured - many life changing but to mention the psychological damage. Me and my friends had just finished our 1st year uni exams and were going on a night out then everything just went crazy, sirens everywhere, everyone was confused and the city Center just shut down. We found out about the bombing from a bouncer, one of my friends friends was at the concert and she had managed to escape, we got to her flat and spent all night comforting her, she was in bits. I think everyone knew someone who had been involved. The next day Manchester just came together, hotels put up survivors for free, taxi drivers didn’t charge fares for people trying to get back home, cafes gave free food and drink to the emergency services. Our uni (mmu) opened up the atrium for people affected or had been to the concert and provided counselling, I volunteered for what it was worth just to hug or be someone they could talk too. You couldn’t move at st Anne’s square as there was flowers everywhere and chalk so people could leave messages on the floor, then suddenly someone started singing this song and everyone joined in. You can probably see it on news clips on KZbin, just type don’t look back in anger Manchester or something like that, it’ll show. Turns out the bomber wasn’t a suicide bomber, his bomb went off prematurely and he died as well, still can’t decide whether that was justice or not…

You'd be amazed how influential these pieces are in the music of today's genres. BTW, Pachelbel Canon in D Major is one of my favorites. People often lazily say "Oh, it's an Imagine rip-off", because of the piano intro (not that you are saying this, Bekka) The true story behind that is that Noel had the music written but was struggling for words. Someone gave him an old tape of a Lennon interview in which John says "People used to tell me I was a genius, now they tell me my brains have gone to my head"... Noel took that, paired it with the "Gonna start a revolution from by bed" line as another reference to Lennon, and then ADDED IN the piano intro as a little nod to those two lines in the song. If someone says "DLBIA is in Imagine ripoff" it makes me wonder 'Do they even listen to the rest of the song???'. Lots of people just love to hate Oasis though.

Oasis were on top of the world because of their brilliant combination of a couple of key factors: idiosyncratic/unmistakable vocals, huge arena rock vibes, and a fundamentally Beatles-esque sense of songwriting. People accuse them of ripping off the Beatles but that's entirely unfair; they clearly understood how the Beatles wrote music and wrote a lot of their own in the same vein but with their own quirks and sound.

@@Besaid06 Nice catch. I didn't realise that song was largely lifted from Neil Innes' (The Rutles) original recording. Which, itself is a clear example of Pachelbel - Canon In D Major influence, in the chorus, at least.

Hi guys, Lex you're right, the chord sequence is a take on Pachelbel's Canon in D. Lots of music is based on the sequence, 'Altogether now' by the Farm for example. Why, because it works and stimulates both sides of your musical brain at the same time. Love and peace from the UK.

Great observation. Oasis are massive fans of The Beetles and have been heavily and openly inspired by them. A lot of The Beetles sound has been filtered right through music for 50 years now so has a "classic" sound, they themselves were inspired by classical music. Oasis were huge, really huge here in Britain, if they reformed.. man.... They'd conquer the country instantly. :)
