All the salty comments about Oasis are strange, the fact is that 27 odd years after Live Forever was released, somebody on KZbin is making comment and enjoying the song, as did millions of people at the time. Whether you like them or not, Oasis in the Uk were era defining, they had a huge impact on youth culture, and are still massively revered today, and not many bands from that long ago still have that impact, that counts, even if you don’t like the music or them as people.

In the catalog of "great songs" that sits in the sky somewhere..."Live Forever" is one of the best songs ever written. Super simple (all root chords), un-ironically optimistic, with a beautiful and edgy melody that cuts right to the point. If this was the only song that Oasis ever charted, that would be enough to make them legendary.

Noel Gallagher said he was sick of hearing artists like Kurt Cobain singing about hating life and wanting to kill himself etc and went with the mentality of 'im not having that, I wanna live forever' The crazy thing is Noel went into a back room and wrote this song acoustically with around 15 minutes!! Oasis were the last band to define an era in Britain. Because of how the music industry is now in terms of how accessible it is & the way streaming platforms have impacted record sales it's difficult to see another band coming out of the UK to rival their impact on a generation or to achieve that level of success. There have been great big bands since like Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Kasabian but they don't come anywhere close to Oasis in terms of a cultural impact

Oasis was formed by the brothers Gallagher: Liam does most of the lead vocals; Noel does vocals, lead guitar and writes the songs. And this is the all-time classic Oasis track; the one that sent them to superstardom. Rebellious, yet positive, with Liam's most Lennon-esque vocals and Noel's awesome guitar work.

@@robbiewainwright9078 Not true. Noel details, in his own recorded words, the origin of the band in the official Oasis documentary "Supersonic". Liam had formed a band, (not called Oasis yet) but the songs were terrible. So Liam asked Noel to join, and Noel agreed as long as he got to write ths ongs. At that point, they arrived at the name Oasis for the band. Even then, Noel explains that it wasn't until he wrote (over the course of one night) and the band recorded the song "Live Forever" that the band truly became Oasis.

@@robbiewainwright9078 The band we know as Oasis was formed when Liam asked Noel to join; that's when they became Oasis using Noel's compositions; i.e., "Oasis was formed by the brothers Gallagher". Playing semantics on the definition of "formed" does not change the fact that the band was not Oasis until Liam asked Noel to join. That's like saying Led Zeppelin was formed before Plant, Jones and Bonham joined, because Page was already in a group called The Yardbirds. Even though they were already playing "Dazed and Confused" and "White Summer-Black Mountain Side" they were not Led Zep; they didn't become Zeppelin until after Plant, Jones and Bonam joined . There's nothing more to add to this except watch the film and listen to Gallagher brothers own words.

Not to offend, but as an American who genuinely admires and feels indebted to the English for so much, I never could understand why they viewed Oasis as a great band. Most of the bands i love and consider to be great bands are English and then there is Oasis. To me, Oasis is mediocre at best. Everything sounds like it has been rewritten enough to ensure nothing interesting survived or maybe nothing interesting ever happened in the genesis of such songs. I can remember the exact moment I first heard this song. I had a friend in secondary school who was into lots of obscure indie bands, most of which were awful quite frankly, and then one day he brought into school a CD which happened to be Live Forever by Oasis. He played it for us at lunchtime and even a bunch of school kids like us knew we were hearing a band that was going to be big. There was something different about Oasis compared to their contemporaries, there was a brashness and confidence about them, but more importantly there were strong melodies which meant you could sing along with them. Sure enough, they became massive in the 90's and the rest, they say, is history.

I grew up with this music. There were the Oasis crew vs the Blur crew at High School. Constant debates on who was going to be No1 in the charts as both acts used to drop a single at the same time. I was more interested in other acts, like The Seahorses, Ocean Colour Scene, Shed Seven, The Verve, Suede, The Charlatans, Ash, Pulp. To name a few. There were also a lot of lead girl indie/rock groups like Lush, Elastica, Skunk Anansie and Sleeper. If you enjoy the feel of brit indie music, try the original early 90s bands like The Stone Roses - Made of Stone, I Am The Resurrection, She Bangs the Drums. Carter USM - Bloodsport for All, Prince in a Paupers Grave, G.I. Blues, Glam Rock Cops, The Only Living Boy in New Cross. Happy Mondays - Kinky Afro, Step On. Primal Scream - Movin On Up, Loaded.

The song was Noel’s reaction to the Nirvana song “I hate myself and I want to die” , in an interview he stated kurt had everything and was miserable, we had nothing and getting up everyday was still the greatest thing , he wasn’t having that “smackhead” coming to the uk giving the youth that message .

Noel recently got asked by his mate matt (can't remember his second name) "if you could live forever would you?" And noels reply was, "I used to think that it would be great to live forever but the way the fucking world is just now I don't think I want to." By the there is a lot of great Manchester bands to listen to.

The Beatles,Mods,Great haircuts, Jangley guitars, Great clothes were just some of Oasis's things plus awesome 1st and 2nd albums which made them huge in the UK and EUROPE, America was still on the grunge thing which to people like me sounded like puck rock all over again, while the US was listening to nirvana etc... we had The Stone Roses which then led the way for Oasis and the rest of the Britpop sound which was so British it never took off in the US but for a few great years we had a sound which in the case of Oasis was of course the BEATLES the greatest band of them all, but there was so many great bands who were about at this time like Blur and lots of one hit wonders but right up to now if you wait till everyone in the pub is drunk and Oasis is on the jukebox EVERYONE WILL BURST INTO SONG.

At the end when Liam drops his voice on the "gonna live forever" repeat... little things like that which turn good Oasis songs into great Oasis songs. You should do their song "Morning Glory." It's a real groin grabber.
