Thank you for another awesome reaction. You guys brought up some good points. My husband’s family is from the north but all of his mom’s family moved to the south when he was a very young child. One of his cousins, that is about 15 years younger than him and was born and raised in the south, said that everyone that was white, born and raised in the south and had parents and grandparents that were born and raised in the south, is racist even if you didn’t believe that you were. She said that there was no way that you could not be. BTW, all 3 of us are white and was raised in the south but her and my husband’s parents grew up in the north. She back pedaled a little when I said I was sorry she thought so little of me despite any actions she had seen out of me. She said she wasn’t really talking about me but in reality, I was exactly the kind of person she was talking about. Here is something I wonder, fingers crossed I won’t offend anyone because I’m no Tom MacDonald! We are told to not tell a child over and over that they are stupid or bad because they will internalize and quite possibly become those things based on their internal dialogue. Wouldn’t the same be true for young African American children that are hearing from teachers, media, music and other leaders in their communities that the white race is going to hold them down and that the only way they can compete is for things to be made easier for them? I think there could be plenty of discussions on how that may and may not be true. My point is, what good is it doing to fill young children’s mind and putting into their internal dialogue that they are not as good, smart or talented because of the color of their skin? Could it not be damaging and set many of them up for failure? Could it not be considered as a way to oppress them? I ask these things with no malice in my heart!! It isn’t an idea I see shared often and I wonder others thought.

That is such a shame you had to put so many disclaimers on a simple observation! I don’t find your hot take racist at all. It does affect the way young black people see the world and how they expect their experiences to go. I think it definitely could become a self fulfilling prophecy for many. 🤔

I grow up being taught a very beautiful thing from my mom (single mother) & schools, that you should judge a person by the content of their character & not the color of their skin. However nowadays, they tell everyone your skin color is the most important part of a person. So according to this new "critical race theory" I'm an opresser, my black wife is oppressed. So are our mix kids oppressed or opresser? My personal thoughts, they will be individuals, just like every other human I've ever met. Seriously, I love your conversations. Much love.

I really appreciate y'alls reactions. I especially like the discussions you have with each other about what the music inspired for you. In regards to all the 'friends' with whom ya'll separated from in 2020 (& the many others that'll pass through in your future); I have a little advice that's partly something I learned from my grandparents and great-grandmother, and partly from my own life lessons...I hope it serves you well. Some people who leave in anger will come back and want reconciliation. Some people won't. Always try to be gracious with both sides. This doesn't mean you should chase anyone down to reconcile, and It's not to advocate that all your defenses should be abandoned if someone seems over-eager for you to offer them a reconciliation. You don't need anyone within your inner circles who can't open their heart and mind to greater understanding. People like that can't give to, or receive, forgiveness and grace. Those types of people won't go very far, and they'll end up trying to pull you down. On the other side of the spectrum, when someone depends on validation more than loyalty, they're often someone who'd sell you out for their benefit, sometimes they'll even sabotage you to reach their goals. And the chaos either dynamic creates is wholly exhausting and exponentially unfulfilling...

Also @Brad & Lex; Tom made the beat. He makes all the beats, writes all the songs, comes up with all the concepts for his music, the only thing not done directly by him on his side of the music is the videography shot by Nova and she helps him with some of his hooks to massage them and get the right message for that segment alone and their friend Evan mixes and masters everything from there, and he owns those too. 100% independence, makes the job harder, but no doubt wayyyyyy more fulfilling.

@Brad & Lex It is so nice to be able to sit here, as a 45 year old straight white male, and listen as two very intelligent and open-minded people discuss topics that are very important to me, that society does not allow me to talk about without getting attacked. I was raised by good parents, who taught me that everyone on the planet was born equal. I even have a 65 year old black neighbor who grew up in alabama in the 60's, and he has told me that I am the least racist person he has ever met. But that has not stopped my hispanic sister-in-law, my white brother and his white girlfriend from all calling me racist just because I disagree with their political leanings towards the left. I have also been called a sexist and had it said that I support the rape culture and racist culture, all for the simple fact that I had the sheer audacity to not support the pushed narrative towards the victimist culture. That's why it is so nice to be able to come on here and see the two of you break all this shit down to the core, and discuss the true issues facing today's society. Much love and respect to you both, as I keep on working my way thru your HOG Journey! HOG Gang! We come for Tom, and then sub for the quality content!
