I am a die hard, life long metal guy and even I freely admit Depeche Mode's "Violator" is one of the best albums ever made. Dated a girl who was a huge fan of theirs. Had every album and wore a t-shirt. She got tickets to a Depeche Mode show and we went. I didn't know what to expect as shows for bands like this are a bit outside of my wheelhouse. I was blown away. Like jaw on the floor in awe. They killed it, had the place in the palm of their hand. 12,000 people singing EVERY word of every song in unison. And WAY more energy than you'd think. I remember being as exhausted as I was at the end of a Slayer show seeing them. Also, and a small thing that's giving me a bit of nostalgia and making me enjoy this reaction just a little bit more. The girl I dated back in those days wore the same style hat that Lex is wearing. Only her hat was all blue.

Once again, Lex is astounding! How does she do this? She hears Marilyn Manson (who covered this song) and Nine Inch Nails and industrial rock, and Depeche Mode are basically a UK version of that, or at least some of the time. Their singer also famously has struggled with heroin addiction, so she gleaned that too. I've been a massive music fan for longer than I can remember, and I don't think I've ever known someone who could intuit so much from a first listen of any specific song.

According to the artist them selves this song is about having someone to call when you are in need, someone who always is there for you and helps you through things. Ooh the long version! Love it. Great reaction! (And before anyone tries to correct me, I know there are longer remix versions, they don't count lol)

Fell in love with them in the early 80s while I was in high school in Arkansas. ... I was definitely a fish out of water. The first concert of theirs I attended was for their violator album (I saw them in concert a total of 3 times), and they blew me away--I left the concert totally enamored and Depeche Mode has been my favorite band ever since. The concert experience is just different. I still have strong reaction to their music. The mainstream hits are great, but when you deep-dive this band you will discover so much amazing music. My best friend was also a huge fan and we went to two concerts together before he passed. Our mutual favorite song is "never let me down again" and every time I hear it, I feel his presence near me. Heck, I can even see his weird dance in my head, and I can see his face vividly despite him being gone for 25 years. Thanks for reacting.

2:26 y 4:44 these reactions make me smile. Good job guys. This song is a classic on the playlist of my life. Let me say, the term “Industrial” for this song fits perfect. And the influence on Marilyn Manson’s music too.

Hi Both. One of the earliest and best of the electro 80s UK bands. Excellent live band. Dave Gahan is a magnetic front man- huge presence, charisma and showmanship. Keep going with them

I highly recommend listening to the whole album, "Violator". It has some of the bands finest songs on it, including my favourites, "Waiting for the Night" and "Halo".

You wouldn't say they were a goth band at all, but definitely goth themes running through their music, and definitely music that goths generally like. I worked in a goth store once and I realised the music I listened to was popular with goths and I had no idea lol. Depeche Mode was definitely a favourite there

Love a bit of Depeche Mode! This was a part of my musical youth (pardon the band name drop... Musical Youth). I remember trying not to like DM because they weren't a part of my music genre but it was impossible because they totally rocked!

Depeche Mode was played quite often in my car while I was in high school... and for good reason. - They, along with other alternative/new wave groups like New Order and Pet Shop Boys always created such awesome music.

They started out as a synth pop band. 3 men on Keys/synthesizers and a vocalist. Listen to songs like Photographic, New Life and Just Can't Get Enough. Later Martin Gore started playing guitar. David Gahan are a very great singer. In the original Line Up were also Vince Clarke. He later made Yazoo with Alison Moyet. Check out Don't Go, Only You and Winter Kills. Later he created Erasure with Andy Bell. You should also check out Depeche Mode - Barrel of a Gun and Master & Servant. Talking about drugs you should listen to Never Let Me Down Again

In this episode of Brad & Lex, the hard hitting percussion immediately causes Brad to grin as he abandons his oh so familiar signature "side to side sway" for more of a "side to side sway bop". His commentary suggests that church would've been better with this sound as Lex goes into a "peck bop" while getting her shoulders in on the action. Both enjoy the uptempo hoppy rhythm.

I'm SO HAPPY you're listening to Depeche Mode! They're dark, introspective, goth-like and sometimes S&M, (Master and Servant) but there's an element of dance in there, too... Blasphemous Rumors is a REALLY good song from them. The entire Violator album is awesome.

Please react to Bjork - Human Behavior live. The performance from the Conan show in the 90's has excellent sound quality. Any live performance of this song is exceptional. A lyric video would be fine as well *for Brad*.

No band with a bigger catalog of great music outside of groups from the 60' s and 70's. They're the GOAT and recently in the Rock n roll hall of fame.

I believe that Violator is a concept album about drug addiction. From the first song, World in my Eyes, about the pleasure in the initial drug addiction, to the final track, Clean, about, well, becoming clean. I agree with Lex that Personal Jesus is about a drug dealer. Every song is a different aspect of drug addiction, from getting that token in Sweetest Perfection, to the loss conveyed in Blue Dress. But, that's just my opinion. I might be wrong.

This was pure 80's synth-pop. The song was inspired by Priscilla Presley's autobiography "Elvis and Me". Where she talked about how he cared for her and gave her hope and guidance.
