I drank and did so many drugs that my liver and kidneys were shutting down around my 34th Bday. If i kept that path i would of dies a terrible death. Gladly all systems are back to operating function. Im in the best shape of my life... quitting all that poision makes you realise what other things are also horrible for you. I'm 27 and I've been drinking on average as little(or much) as a pint for the last four years. Finding myself in a house that once used to be filled with family and laughter has, in the course of the last couple of years, driven me to seek comfort and develop an appetite for reminiscences from alcohol. I understand that some people have it worse and they still manage to make the best out of their circumstances, and in light of the severity of their journey, it's silly of me to complain about my struggles as they are. Anyway, I don't know if there's a point I'm trying to make here but I can certainly say that when I think hard, I can somewhat remember what my idea of happiness constituted before I took to drinking. I'm quitting alcohol in hopes of indulging in all those self-preserving activities from which I've been absent so long. I don't want to feel ever again the overwhelming sense of impending doom and loneliness and guilt brought on by too many terrible episodes of hangover.

I did not have to convince myself or battle any urges, I just didn't care for a single drop of alcohol. And that felt so empowering. God bless therapy and yoga.

I come from a family of alcoholics. While serving active duty as a U.S. Marine, I was like many guys in that during the week it was all business, but every weekend consisted of binge drinking. Not blaming this on the Corps, but it’s a big part of our culture. Once I left active, my drinking reduced dramatically. Now, I’m always the sober friend who’s more than happy to be the DD.

I’m 25, was an alcoholic and drug addict. Went sober 6 months ago. Never looked back. Has been one of the most profound changes to my quality of life ever. I had to join a program tho, I was struggling to do it on my own

No shame in joining a program. We all need each other. I’m happy for you stranger!
