Special guest host Larry Wilmore is joined by acting legend Bradley Whitford (The West Wing, Handmaid's Tale, Get Out) to discuss the perils of this year's election and how Republicans are gearing to make The Handmaid's Tale feel like a documentary. Then, Bradley will be put the ultimate test with a game of Would You F*ck This President?

Each week, former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett and a panel of comedians, actors, journalists, and some of the many, many famous Friends of the Pod break down the week’s biggest news and make fun of whatever bullshit came out of our insane political nightmare factory.
Crooked Media believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us-one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. We are a media network that showcases stories, voices, and opportunities for activism that inform, entertain, and inspire action, because it’s up to all of us to do our part to build a better world.
That’s it. End of mission.

@CeeGeeZ , I'm not so sure. For me, it seems that the real issue is, the meting out of PUNISHMENT! At what point can who determine what amount of what kind of punishment, what person can be forced to suffer, by what other person. And when you ask the "why", they say "religion". What does THAT mean?! As best I can tell, if you screen out those who think that they can atone for their own transgressions by punishing others more aggressively than they expect to be punished, themselves.

@NickYankee Yes, I worked in daily news for a long time and one of my editors called this kind of thing “bread and circuses.” Media has deteriorated as corporate took over and started chasing clicks and views, but particularly on the right there’s more misinformation to drive the narrative they want to present. It’s distressing that a lot of people don’t realize it’s not factual. We need people educated in critical thinking and able to spot these false narratives. But the current Republican Party is trying to tear apart public education now. We have to put these people out of office.

This is fantastic! I love both Larry Wilmore and Bradley Whitford. A note on their conversation: I worry that a big point that's been missed is that people are too busy to get as involved as they would like to or feel they should. Our day jobs often include two-plus hours of commute time and a full 8.5 (or more) hours of work. Just trying to eat right, spend time with family, and get the minimum required sleep, and a bit of exercise takes too much time in late-stage capitalism. I do what I can but I never feel like it's enough.

I am terrified too but the anecdote to fear is action. The Civil Rights Movement did not happen because their asses were on the couch. They marched for years, submitted to physical attacks, registered voters in hostile areas... I'm not suggesting we put ourselves in danger, but all movements -- labor, women's rights -- happened because people worked for it. Sometimes for years. As a 52 year old democrat, I am going to work my ass off this cycle to make sure my daughters don't lose every right we as women have. Looking at this as "optional" is not an option.

North and South Dakota have the same number of Senators as California and New York. In the House of Representatives, the Democrats are in the minority, but they represent 100 million more people than Republicans. Bush and Trump did not get the popular vote but they secured enough electoral votes to win the presidency; and they appointed 6 out of 9 Supreme Court justices. On the local level, politicians choose their voters through gerrymandering and most elections are uncontested. Elections cost billions of dollars, voters are being arbitrarily purged from the rolls, and some people have to wait hours in line to cast a vote. American democracy is not free or fair.

Most people hold the shallow belief that if you vote every 2 years you have fullfilled a model, responsible political citizenship and that is such A LOW BAR, an absolute minimum. Think of how easy and transformed our lives would be if every democrat, and every Biden voter converted one other Trump voter or one other non voter to turn out and vote Biden. He got 80 million last time and we could double that. The bar should be your vote and your plus one (a new Biden voter). Think of that as the minimum bar.

Another big problem that too many people don't understand that a Republican candidate is going to vote with the agenda of the Republican party, no matter what he says on the campaign trail. It is a popular thing now to say you are not beholden to a party, and it is somehow better to vote for the person. That is the dumbest thing you can do. There are 2 teams with opposite goals. If you want one goal, you have to support the team. No matter how much you like Mitt, or Don or Arnold, they are going to vote against your goal.

To delve deeper into the issues at hand, let's break down the concerns and the vision outlined in your message: ### 1. **Concerns About Republican Policies** **Reproductive Rights**: - **Abortion Restrictions**: Many Republican lawmakers have pushed for stricter abortion laws, with some states passing near-total bans. This has raised fears about women's autonomy over their own bodies and echoes the forced birth policies in "The Handmaid's Tale." - **Access to Contraception**: There are also concerns about potential restrictions on access to contraception, which could further limit reproductive choices for women. **LGBTQ+ Rights**: - **Discrimination Laws**: Efforts to roll back protections for LGBTQ+ individuals, such as those allowing businesses to refuse services based on religious beliefs, have been contentious. - **Transgender Rights**: Policies aimed at restricting the rights of transgender individuals, including access to gender-affirming healthcare and participation in sports, have also been criticized as regressive. **General Civil Liberties**: - **Voting Rights**: Laws that impose stricter voting requirements are seen by some as attempts to suppress voter turnout, particularly among minorities. - **Surveillance and Privacy**: Increased government surveillance and data collection efforts have raised concerns about privacy and individual freedoms. ### 2. **Crooked Media's Vision for Better Discourse** **Constructive Conversations**: - **Focus on Solutions**: Instead of dwelling on problems, Crooked Media encourages discussions that highlight practical solutions and proactive measures to address societal issues. - **Inclusive Dialogue**: Promoting conversations that include diverse perspectives to build a more comprehensive understanding of the issues. **Building a Better World**: - **Community Engagement**: Encouraging individuals to participate in the political process and community efforts to drive change. - **Policy Advocacy**: Supporting policies that promote equality, justice, and sustainability. ### Concrete Steps and Actions **Awareness and Education**: - **Informing the Public**: Raising awareness about the implications of certain policies and educating the public on their rights and how to protect them. - **Media Literacy**: Teaching people how to critically evaluate information and recognize biased or misleading narratives. **Political Engagement**: - **Voting**: Encouraging voter registration and participation in all elections to ensure that diverse voices are heard. - **Advocacy**: Supporting advocacy groups and organizations that fight for reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and civil liberties. **Community Initiatives**: - **Grassroots Movements**: Supporting local initiatives that work towards equality and justice. - **Volunteerism**: Getting involved in community service to help address immediate needs and build stronger communities. By focusing on these aspects, we can better understand the concerns surrounding certain political trends and actively work towards a more inclusive and equitable society. If you have specific questions or need further details on any of these points, feel free to ask!

As long as to go vote it doesn't matter how enthusiastic you are about it. Statistics has never ever cared about feelings.

The worst decision Comedy Central ever made was to cut Larry's show. The next worst was to bring Jon Stewart back just so he could show us what a feckless NOTHING he is.

Yep. I stopped watching the Daily Show before Roy Wood Jr left. It was too heartbreaking to watch CC emotionally abuse the cast for another season by dangling the main host job but giving it to nobody.

Some constructive critiicism, but don't _slam_ him! Obama had too much hate against him to do all he wanted to. I'm glad Joe was his "understudy". Joe's like Barack with decades - deep networking. Biden's the most effective Pres of my lifetime and Gaza War is not his fault, nor under Joe's control! Four more years of Biden, Harris and their team!
