In this video I cover how I utilize a drop shot and ned rigs in my off shore summertime fishing. These two techniques have proven to be very effective when bass are lethargic and won't react to other baits. Give these finesse techniques a try and I'm sure you will have some success. I've put links down below to all the tackle and gear I mentioned in this video, check them out.

I tie the same knot for my leader line. Much easier to tied in wind and waves on the water. But I coil mine alot tighter when wrapping my braid around the floro. It makes it hard to overlay coils properly. I'm gonna try it like you did it next time. Hopefully it makes it a little easier. Thanks for the content Bradley. Love you channel and the videos.

I was introduced to the drop shot as a real short dropper maybe 8” using it in smaller streams with creatures and tubes. Funny thing I cut my teeth throwing inline spinners and crappie sized jigs, now I head to a stream you can throw a rock across with a MH bait caster and a big spinnerbait!

I recently started using a small swivel, #8 or 10, about 4 inches above the drop shot to completely eliminate line twist. It also allows me to retie my drop shot hook and sinker without shortening my leader, which makes the leader last much longer. I have not noticed any less effectiveness in the combination.

Back in March of 2020. The 'Fish the Moment' guys. Managed to capture some underwater footage. Of their drop shot system. Not unlike the system. Described in this lesson (in fact, this lesson where Bradley demonstrates the basics of putting the hook and leader on the braided line rod). Is an excellent complement. To the footage. That 'Fish the Moment' did. Of the drop shot system. On the concrete bottom. Of an actual clear water swimming pool. That was thirteen foot in depth. Using a swimming pool. That was large enough. To make a realistic 'thirty foot' cast. Using the line and rod. What the underwater view demonstrated. Was some kind of bait fish (yes they did use a colored worm soft plastic). Yet, as Bradley explained in relation to the hook and leader. It looks like a suspended bait fish. Around a foot. Or a foot and a half. From the lake bottom. Where the same as. In this lesson from Bradley. The angler at 'Fish the Moment'. Did not actually manipulate the drop shot and soft plastic. An awful lot. And strangely enough. I did not believe it. Yet it makes sense. When you see. How the bait operates. With the drop shot system. Underneath the water. In fact. It was scary. How well it did operate.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 3 жыл бұрын
In fly fishing. We do spend. A lot of time. Or at least. More than we used. Making flies. That operate as various things. That do not. Suspend in the same way. A distance removed. From the bottom. I'm thinking. For example. Of crayfish, sculpin etc (Matt Stefan actually did a video to explain how the swim bladder works in more advanced fish). And of course. Needless to say. A good chunk. If not half. Of the modern 'bait fish' imitation fishing flies. That a lot of anglers (for species like trout, but also bass). Work with nowadays. Are used to imitate. Those fish. That aren't able. To suspend in the water. As my knowledge. Of the various species. Of bait fish. That these bass consume. Is not at any expert level. I know. There are multiple species. And bass will change. From feeding one. To another (Matt Stefan earlier also completed a small tutorial about fishing 'large lakes'). Such as the Great Lakes.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 3 жыл бұрын
What Matt was explaining. Is that in large lakes. One has to be aware. Of the affect of wind. On the conditions in the lake. And it's influence. On the movement. Of bait fish. That swim at different depths (as well as the reality he explained, that schools of small mouth and walleye will swim as far as five to ten miles). To different parts. Of large lakes. And large rivers. Brian Latimer in his visit. To the St. Lawrence river. Earlier in the year. He encountered schools of small mouth bass there. That happened to be. On juvenille Perch fish. At that point. In the warm water. In the southern lakes. That Bradley is talking about. This imitation. Of bait fish. Using the twelve to eighteen inch bait fish imitation. Makes some kind of odd sense. More having witnessed. What the underwater footage. Of the bait looks like. More than anything. The drop shot. Definitely. Is not like one of those things. Where for example. Anglers talking about. The bait being taken. On the drop. Or maybe it works. Whilst the bait and lead weight. Is dropping downward too? There are more than a few. Of those 'soft plastics'. That anglers use. In the saltwater. That I know. Maybe it was more. The Ned rig? That have a tendency. To be taken by fish. On the drop? Anyhow. I've more and more. Friends. In the saltwater. In the British Isles here. Who suddenly. Took up their angling past time (went out and 'rigged' up with lines, rods, baits and reels). Over the time. Of the restrictions of movement. With the 'pandemic' happening. In 2020. And in 2021. And I constantly field. Various types of questions. From beginner anglers. Who are postively. In their middle age. Not everything. On the fly fishing side of the sport. Translates into conventional tackle systems. And the 'drop shot' system. Has something about it. Which I have not come across before. In the realm of fly fishing angling.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 3 жыл бұрын
The difference is. Is that in fly fishing. We're mainly trying to practice. That skill (I've heard Brian Latimer talk about it, doing a version of the same using conventional tackle). Where you're working. With a spooky, highly pressurized. Kind of fish. That can 'move'. If you get close to it. And he's sometimes. Trying to create 'distance' and range. Between himself. And the fish. Finding different ways. To make longer casts. It's just one of those things. He's good at doing. That is really. The strength of fly fishing. When it comes to circumstances however (and the 'drop shot' system is one example of the same). Where it requires the angler. To operate at close quarters. To their fish. Much in the manner. Of the 'bow hunter'. Who will quietly stalk their prey. Meaning that. When the presentation to the fish. Is finally executed. There may not be. A huge amount of distance. Between the angler. And the fish. Fly anglers. Are probably a lot less well versed. In that concept. As they are. In the one. Of reaching out. And touching the spooky fish. From a distance (meaning that, when confronted with these techniques in conventional angling practice). They are somewhat. Unfamiliar to us.

another good one. My friends make fun of me for it but I use the Ned rig a lot. I used it on Chickamauga last week and caught 12-15# per day on it just fin fishing around grass edges. I did lose 2 good ones over 6. One was because I already had 10" dink on the hook when big momma came out to inhale him. Just not enough hook for two fish at one time.
