You should do a video like this for all the steps. This is an amazing video. Polishing, Sanding, Plating, Reshafting etc. I was always wondering what wheels, grits on sand paper and etc that you use. So these videos are quick and give us all those details. Thanks a lot Brad!

This is a really helpful video. I have that exact bench grinder and didn't know about arbor extenders and attaching polishing wheels. Thank you for posting this video along with your electroplating videos.

Awesome! I knew you could make one side of a grinder a polishing wheel. No need to buy two tools! Thanks 💪🏼

I’m really curious, I want to start restoring some old sets I have, but I’m worried about stripping the nickel, or chrome plating off of them and it contaminating the environment around my house. I live next to a creek, and worry that I might be polluting into our water basin. Really don’t want an Erin Brockovich situation here. Any advice?

Check out the equipment links. I have one there. They're called a Spindle Extender or Adapter.

Love the video. Aldo considering geting in to Thierry myself as we are buying a house and we will aqquire a 300 square feet heated garage. Just wondering how you go about handling clubs like the wilsons that have those semiplastic or painted decorations on the back of the club. Fels like it gets more common in newer clubs. Do you just leave them and focus on the bare steel or do you remove that aswell in case a customer asks for it ?
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan Жыл бұрын
I'd just tape them to protect it ,then polish. Modern clubs you can just polish without plating unless they're forged steel.

Hey Brad just curious if its ok to just turn one side of my bench grinder into a polishing wheel? My concen would be more for safety reasons to not have one wheel left as a grinding stone.
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan 10 ай бұрын
The one I use with the belts still has one side intact with the grinding wheel in it. The other side has my belt sander attachment on it. I'd prefer that to having one side empty. I don't any evidence for this, but I would assume they would be out of balance without having it there.

Hey Brad. Thanks for all your videos. Just getting started with refinishing my clubs. So I can avoid the 385 dollar cost for the belt sanding attachment, couldn’t I just buy a belt sander or bench top sander and If so, which grit sand paper would you recommend for removing smalls dings and bag chatter? Also, could the scotch brite belts you use be put on a belt sander too? Thanks in advance.
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan Жыл бұрын
The scotch Brite belts aren't really needed. It doesn't do anything you couldn't do by hand with sandpaper. It just saves time. I had an Amazon gift card, so I bought it. You could absolutely use a belt sander. My advice is to use the highest grit paper you can to remove your scratch, or switch to more aggressive grit if it's not enough. Since it's moving quickly, it's easier to *control* how much metal you're removing if the paper is a higher grit. So, maybe try 600 grit at the most on a flat area of the club (so you dont round off something unintentionally). It allows you to take more time to slowly shave off tiny layers at a time. Being able to control what gets sanded only happens if you're going slower. The belts are very thick, so your sander has to have a hefty motor to turn them.

How do you slow the rotational speed of the motor? Or do you polish at full 3,450 RPM?
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan Жыл бұрын
I do it at full speed. But that's a consideration since the wheels are rated slower. I found this convo: www.bladeforums.com/threads/slow-down-motor-with-rheostat.907695/

Can you tell me what brand or where to purchase the belt sander attachment to the bench grinders. Looks to be a real Andy tool. Lots of options. Thanks
@BradMeehan
@BradMeehan Жыл бұрын
Yes. There is a link in the description to the product on Amazon. If not, the brand is called multi-tool. It's so good. You'll need a hefty motor to drive the thick belts.

Brad, any thoughts on doing a video on black coated irons. I bought a set of Adams Idea Blacked Forged CB2’s in pretty rough shape and I would like to restore them. Website says they are coated with Nickel Chromium. No clue how to go about restoring the set. Any input will be greatly appreciated!
