Is the brush finish coming from the grinding or the chemical process, trying to grind off the chrom/matte finish on my p790s and make it a brush finish
@BradMeehan4 күн бұрын
@scott6919 from the grinder or sanding. The plating takes on the finish of what's under it. Meaning, if you polish it, it will look shiny after plating. Of its textured, the plated area will be textured

The sole plate looks awesome! Did you have to somehow smooth down or sand the edges where the new paint met unfinished metal. I was expecting you to remove the shaft but understand why you wouldn't. Great stuff.

Club is beautiful. Before you hit the groove section of the face with the media blaster, do you hit it with all the wheels and compounds?
@BradMeehan5 күн бұрын
@@scwhitebirdy I do, but minimally. Just want to get a nice base before I blast it. The sandblaster hides some imperfections, but you get a better finish if you smooth it out a touch

I could be missing something(s). Do you Scotch Brite the head after you remove all of the chromium and nickel from the head? It looks like you're straight away going to the wheels. Although afterwards, you apply nickel plating to the head. Usually, chromium is electroplated after nickel -- what is your reasoning for not doing that?
@BradMeehan6 күн бұрын
@jonathansmith9705 cost and safety concerns for doing chromium at home is why I stop at the nickel layer (which is quite durable). I always hand sand the scratches and dings. You may have missed it.
@jonathansmith97055 күн бұрын
@@BradMeehan Figured as much. Chromium is pretty caustic; hence why shops have air-scrubbers and other precautions. Do the heads tarnish much without it on them? I saw you hand sand some areas, but it looked like the meat of the work was done with medium scotch brite. How would you fill big nicks or dings? Some use copper. Thanks for your reply!

@BradMeehan19 күн бұрын
@richardramon2175 it's just water. However, the acid is already diluted to 30% do you don't have to diluted it any more. Always add acid to water, not water to acid. I'm guessing I had 25% water to acid. But, full strength is ok.

@BradMeehan15 күн бұрын
@richardramon2175 No, you'd still need to protect it. The nickel plating with take in the surface condition of what's underneath. So if you brush up first, then plate it, it will look brushed in the end.
