Point cutting directly into the hair will take out weight from the section, pointing cutting with the scissors at an angle will make the straight like a little more choppy to give it texture. Not what he said in the video. Love his content but it was incorrect. Thinning shears also come in various versions to thin out less or more hair

@kittyqube67847 ай бұрын
he said in this video (9:40) the noticeable chops from thinning shears are from cutting the hair where it lays normally. (I personally like to take vertical sections and pull them straight up, and a little diagonal over the top of my head (like pulling the left side to the right) to get good overdirection. it's hard to get the layering effect with more horizontal sections in my experience. I hope your next cut goes well! but also I'd still love a video going more in depth about thinning shears

Go for it! My hair was just as long and all the same length when I did my first butterfly cut. I kept most of my length and it layered nicely. I took off 9 inches, I believe, and it was still down past my butt. Last week, about 6 months after the first cut, I decided to do it again. I tried to go even shorter to get my hair just to my butt, so I wasn't sitting on it still. I also wanted a bit more layering in the front with bangs just a tad shorter. My hair is just the right length now and I have even more beautiful layering. My bangs are shorter, but they're still several inches longer than where my chin is. I'm thinking of even going back in and doing it a bit shorter. This is huge for me, because I've always had hair at least down to my butt, and haven't had layers since elementary school. Just start off slow, with a few inches and then go back in if it's not enough. That's what I did because I was worried about cutting it too short. You can always go back and take a little more, but if you go nuts with the scissors, you may cut too much and regret it. 😼

Went from grown out just past shoulder length hair, chopped into a bob. Then decided I wanted even less hair and cut a side/undercut. Then bleached my roots and fixed some banding. Then finally did a bi-colored ombre and I freaking LOVE it. Feeling more my enby self and my hair isn't fried to heck.

More than one person in this video clearly has some experience cutting their own hair and they get how this stuff works. Maybe that's the takeaway today. If you've never cut your own hair before, you might not be ready to transform your hair. So get yourself some experience doing some low-risk adjustments. Take off a little bit of hair, look at the results, figure out how to touch it up a little, and think about what you'd do differently next time. Experience is so valuable.

Oh, and I placed the front ponytail between my eyebrows 😁

I watch you on the regular. I have to say, doing your hair at home not only is very rewarding, you also save (monetarily) quite a bit! My mom, for instance, she's almost 80 and still colors her own hair. She has been doing it since her late 30s, early 40s when she stopped taking me to the salon as a child/teen, also because I started experimenting cutting my own hair (oh the hours of fun I had). But calculate it sometime. My mom has saved a brandnew SUV doing her own hair. Also YT videos (Regal Gentleman) have shown us how to cut dad's hair and we have started to when Covid struck, as barbers in my country (Belgium) all got shut down for months on end. Even our politicians were rocking the 60s shag. LOL ;) My dad said he prefers the way we cut his hair (short back & sides + scissored up top). And it really is not that difficult to do a short man's cut. Maybe that's an idea for you to start tutorials on, Brad! Because it's a great skill to have especially if you have kids.
