If I recall correctly, the story is, he sang this at the Opry one night. Barely made it thru and as he walked off stage or maybe later on, Vince Gill (I think it was Vince) told him how much he loved the song. Craig told him that he was glad he enjoyed it because he was never going to sing it again. Vince told him that he HAD to because there were so many people that would be able to relate to and use this song as part of their healing process. He finally gave in and recorded it.

Blake Shelton tweeted and said in many interviews he'd gladly give up his spot on country radio and award shows for fans to push this song to #1 He & Craig are very good friends. Blake wants this song to be #1 . Craig did it live on the Grand Ol Opry that video will rip your heart out. The standing ovation was almost 5 minutes long.

Wow Ashley, that was powerful. This 63 year old truck driver watched it in his truck and cried like a baby. Every death is different, I had a 6 month old daughter, Jana to pass away in 1996.

He did sing it live at the Opry. He said he would never sing it again; it was for him and his family. Ricky Scaggs was off stage and convinced him he could help so many if he would release the song….and he did. His son was 19 and it was a tubing accident on the water.

Ricky Scaggs told him you need to record this and share it with the world. I am so thankful for Ricky and Craig's courage to follow that advice. An incredibly powerful song and testimony !

That is leaving it all on the field right there. Craig's son was 19. He and a buddy or two were up at the families getaway place on the lake. The day they were due to head back to town, they decided to have a little more time tubing and some kind of accident happened and the young man drowned. Craig (fairly recently I think) was doing a bit of life inventory and decided there was one thing he had left unfinished. He served 17 years in the army between active duty and reserves. He felt like he didn't complete his service since he didn't get his full 20. So on stage he came out in uniform and an army officer swore him back in to the army reserves. Quite a guy, and a talent.

I’ve always respected him as an artist, family man and faithful servant of Gods, but this adds even more respect I didn’t even know was possible! I knew he was a veteran but didnt realize he served 17 years. I’d be so happy if my son turned out like Craig.

Hi brother, greetings from across the pond 😊🇬🇧 My understanding is that Craig write this and got it down on tape intending that only close family and friends with DD get to hear it and that subsequently they and his peers in the music industry using gentle persuasion got him to release it and share it with the world. If you can bare to search YT for his 1st EVER public performance of this song at the Grand Ole Opry, again it was his peers that persuaded him do to his, again, it’s a gut-wrencher 😢🇬🇧🇺🇸

But said he thought of the Father My Son and The Holy Ghost while laying in Bed and thot I'll wake up and make a song but something told him No U will forget the words. So he got up and 4 hrs later the song was wrote. Check out his performance on the Opry and He takes a HUGE breathe before he starts.

I lost my daughter at 2 months due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). She was 'perfect' - they couldn't find anything wrong, but she was gone. The loss was something that almost killed us. The fact we had our son was the only reason we could find to go on. The hurt never goes, but you learn to live with the huge hole in your heart. My heart goes out to him.
