I had heard this song several times and then someone suggested watching the Kelly Clark performance. He literally had to stop to sob before performing the last line of the song. Heartbreaking.

I’m not a Christian… not even sure I believe in a higher power. But this song is beautiful, and oddly, it resonates with me. I’ve struggled with depression since I was a child, and this song is kind of a reminder to me: “Don’t do this to your dad. You watched your friends’ dads go through this. Don’t put your dad through the same pain.”
@mdm3274611 күн бұрын
Yea please don't put your dad through that. I lost my son in May 2024 and it is brutal. I will never forgive myself for not seeing the signs. As this song says, I will never completely heal until i go home. I hope you are doing well.

He sang this song at the Grand Ol' Opry, thinking it would be the only time he ever sang it. It recieved a standing ovation and, I believe it was Ricky Scaggs, told him that the song needed to be recorded. Craig is good friends with Blake Shelton and after hearing the song, Blake got in touch with all of his social media followers and with his encouragement, moved the song to the #1 spot on the country music chart for awhile.

I am in awe of Craig every single time I see and hear this (the official music video) but even more so when watching him perform it at the grand ole opry (the first time anybody outside of family and friends had heard it). Craig did not intend to record/release it as a record until family & friends gently persuaded him to share this and his faith with the wider world. It goes without saying that the majority of us cannot even begin to imagine such loss and this to me reminds me of the faith and confidence in God as testified by Job. In a similar vein the well known hymn It is Well With My Soul was written by Horatio Spafford, a successful 19th century Chicago businessman & lawyer. I often think of him as a Job like man. He and his family lost a son to scarlet fever. This was followed by heavy, heavy losses to his business empire in the great Chicago fire. Following these tragedies he organised a vacation for the whole family in England but last minute business issues meant he couldn’t leave so he sent his wife and daughters ahead intending to join them later. Tragically however the ship his wife and family were travelling on collided with another vessel. All 4 of his daughters perished, he received a telegram from his wife which read “saved, alone” 😢 Following on from every tragedy that had bestowed him and his family he penned It is Well With My Soul. “Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul “ 💪🏻

This just came up in my suggestions. All happens for a reason. I’m struggling with faith right now. Raised Catholic…I’m dealing with feelings of betrayal and lies in truths coming to the surface about cover-ups, orphanages, and the Vatican.

We played this at my oldest son's funeral this past May. He passed away 05/12/21. I hadn't heard it until right before then and it hit me hard. When my youngest son passed away (10/25/12), 9 yrs ago today we played Eric Clapton's , "Tears In Heaven". Hard for me to listen to either songs now, but I feel drawn to listening to them anyway.

There is a story about how the song was written that would be worth checking out. Craig said God wrote the song through him. He was woken up in the middle of the night, went to the kitchen sat down and wrote the song. He never had any intention of producing it

Thanks for the backstory. I can't even imagine. I'm glad he did share this song as I'm sure it offers some comfort to others who are hurting.

Jerry Greer Craig Morgan's son died in a tubbing accented in 2016. First time he sang this song he barely made it through it . Was performed at the Grand Ole Opry when he was finished walked back stag where his friend Ricky Skaggs was. Ricky told him it was a great song at that point Craig told him he was glad because it was the only time it would be performed. Ricky told him that this song needed to be recorded, that others that have gone through this kind of lose would know that they are not a lone. Craig wrote a book titled God, Family, and Country everyone needs to read this book. Craig goes into detail in the chapter about Jerry have a box of tissues at hand. I can relate watched my brother lose his oldest son to a drawing, 2 years later we lost my sister so watched my losing her and 2 years after her parents go through then 2 years after her death we lose my brother so watched my parents lose 2 of their 3 kids in the span of 2 years and 26 days after my brother's death I we my dad so had to help my ma navigate through these he died on Christmas Eve morning that year.

My son died 2 years ago, 3 weeks after turning 20. He died of a heroin/fentanyl overdose. Being a Christian I feel like the only solace I could find is knowing I’ll see him one day, but I don’t feel like that will happen because of the bad choices he made. I’m broken and hopeless.

Lisa, this is heart-breaking. You know I don't know, either. I have a friend who had two of her children die from accidental overdoses. It's a challenge for her and she keeps herself in the Book and in prayer to bring peace to her life. My wife and I will be praying that the peace of God guards your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

As a parent, you NEVER get OVER IT. You go NUMB, and do your best to live THROUGH each and every day. NO parent should bury their child. TBH I would rather be stabbed and left for dead again then to bury another child. THAT is the WORST PAIN you could EVER go through. The emotional pain greatly outweighs the physical pain of losing anyone, ESPECIALLY a child.

Lyrically, maybe try listening to Meatloaf. Very lyrical. Give a listen to "Objects in the rearview mirror appear closer than they are" his life story of living with an abusive father, losing his best friend and his first love. Another, I won't do that. Nice reviews!
@SolaMelodica3 жыл бұрын
Meatloaf - probably doesn't get enough credit for introducing a theatrical flare to his performances. I don't think that I know Objects in the Rearview Mirror and will need to check it out.
