it's weird because somehow a movie about characters stuck in the 2000s in the 2020s just wouldn't be all that culturally different.. sure the technology would be different (iphones) and the virus is now a thing.. maybe even before sept 11 but our culture as a whole just doesn't seem that much different to me now than then.. 🤷

Sherwood Schwartz, who created the show, was one of the writers and producers of this movie, and his writing credit indicates that he wrote for the characters, so I think he was very much in on the joke.

Yeah, the show took itself seriously (for a comedy, that is), but the movies were satire and camped it up. On the show, Jan also suffers from middle child syndrome and is insecure of her perceived flaws and jealous of Marcia.

Different era. Family sitcoms like the Brady Bunch, Family Affair and the Partridge Family were the last of their kind. They never really took themselves seriously and as society changed they were abruptly cancelled and replaced with a different kind of genre That was more realistic and socially relevant like All in the Family, Maude, The Jeffersons, Good Times, One Day at a Time, Family, and even Mary Tyler Moore. The movies were true parodies of a show that was insulated from reality that they were funny as hell.
@musicaltheatergeek79
@musicaltheatergeek79 6 жыл бұрын
By "taking themselves seriously," I meant that THE BRADY BUNCH show was too earnest in trying portray an idealized world at the time. But the sexual revolution of the late '60s and the New Hollywood meant that audiences wanted more 'realistic' portrayals of life/family/love.
